Intially, 'Pakeezah' could not attract much audiences. But it was 'The Tragedy Queen' Meena Kumari's premature death on 31 March, 1972 which led the audience pack up the cinema halls to the brim to watch 'one of the most beautiful films ever made in Bollywood.'

Like the actor seen here ( David, I think?) we get slowly mesmerized by the song, the performance,the ambience...

He was also an Urdu and Hindi poet. Meena Kumari died in 1972 and her tragic death gave the film the real push. It ultimately became the best grosser of its time. Kamal Amrohi married Meena Kumari after the death of his third wife. They got separated in 1964.
