In this episode of Searching for History, Erin and I visit the site of the Chambers Blockhouse. The Chambers Blockhouse was a pioneer settler blockhouse establishing during the 1855-1856 Washington Indian War. This was a war between a confederation of Washington Indian tribes lead by Nisqually chief, Leschi and the Washington Territory. The blockhouse was built on the Andrew Chambers donation land claim, thus the name, Chambers Blockhouse. The Chambers Blockhouse site is located on Chambers Prairie, just south of the city of Lacey, in Thurston County, Washington State. It was built in 1855 as a refuge for around fourteen people. After only a couple months of use with no Indian attacks, the blockhouse was abandoned. Many blockhouses and forts were built in Washington State around this time. Please join us as we visit the site of the Chambers Blockhouse.
