I'm so impressed with it all: the testing protocol, the variety of material, the fixture...every detail. After just watching a few essentially useless videos, this was a treat. Thank you.

Top notch review Stan. I really enjoyed the back and forth between you and Rein.

I use the Bordo on threaded rod for ceiling hangers. Sometimes days at a time. Works good and holds up well. Used to buy the cheaper imports at a fourth of the price but they rarely lasted a full day with hard use. For occasional use in the shop I'd stick with the cheaper units.

great video... just one thing i understand why people get frustrated with "knock-off" Chinese products and tools (and i personally try to buy "Made in USA/America whenever I can and/or afford it) and also have had my fair share (more than fair share actually) of frustrating Chinese products breaking down (even as you take them out of the package)... but let's not also forget most of us hobby machinist wouldn't have a hobby machine shop if it weren't for Chinese made products that are affordable ... but in your case Stan, where you income and work in the trade for a living, i more than understand why you would want the best product/tools for use and for your staff!!! May the good Lord continue to bless, watch over, love and protect you, your family and all of you love ones!!! :)

Nice Review Stan. Saw the Uni-Burr at the Bash one year, but the Bordo looks like it may be a bit better. Thanks for the review!

If you loaded your jig with all the different hardness samples, you could test all samples with one cutter before moving on to the next cutter. One tool change per tool. Just a thought.

What a good real world test on a variety of hardness metals. In general, more cutting edges will produce a smoother finish, and the tool will last longer. And never/never use an impact style drill or driver on a chamfering tool. Ouch! I was leaning toward the Uniburr simply because it is made in the USA, and the ORX because it used HSS inserts, but what a failure. Maybe someone will produce a tool like the ORX but with carbide inserts instead of HSS, and slots for chip extraction. I'd pay extra for that. Thanks for the video.

That shinny silver one is what I got off Amazon, may work on larger diameters stock, but be careful of the smaller diameter stock ,as it will snag.. Frankly, a was on money for what I needed it for...

Great shootout. I'm surprised the cheapo from Amazon did as well as it did.

that okx tool didn't get a fair shake with that burr, the others didn't have it on the harder material. Certainly that put a strain since it was unequal cutting. I don't see the bordo easily avail in the U.S. . I would like it for more than machining, also for pipes, but with a max 7/8 material, it can't do 3/4 or 1" pipe. but 1/2 pipe good. For conduit maybe up to 3/4in with a little rocking.

The last test on the hardest steel, both had one with a large burr. The cutters in the OX are made to hangup.

I got a Uniburr back when they showed at the Bash. I didn't have much luck with it. Like this test, the cutting edges didn't hold up. I think mine failed on regular socket head cap screws. It did look to me as though having a large saw-cut tang sticking out was tough on the tools. Maybe beating it over with a hammer before deburring might help.

Can the Ox be run in reverse since it has a cutting edge on two edges.
@steadyeddie7453
@steadyeddie7453 3 года назад
Interesting thought, but is should have only one cutting edge per insert. If it works in reverse then it explains why the tool failed. All cutting tools have a clearance angle ground into them so only the leading edge cuts. Everything behind it is for clearance. Otherwise the piece would rub. If the OX ( it's actually ORX) cuts in reverse then they didn't cut a clearance angle. Big no no.
