Le Train du Montenvers a été amélioré à mesure que la technologie ferroviaire évoluait. Si les locomotives d’origine étaient à vapeur, elles sont aujourd’hui électriques mais une chose n’a jamais changé : la crémaillère. Cet engrenage destiné à assurer l’adhérence du train sur des voies pentues, est restée la technique la plus adaptée au parcours ! Rapidement après sa création, le Train du Montenvers est devenu une des principales attractions de la Vallée de Chamonix-Mont-Blanc. Allant jusqu’à accueillir plus d’un million de voyageurs par an en haute-saison dans les années 1990. En prenant le Train du Montenvers, vous côtoierez de nombreux alpinistes qui l’empruntent pour partir ou revenir de leurs courses en montagne.

The Montenvers train has been upgraded as railway technology has evolved. Originally driven by a steam locomotive, it is now electric. Once thing hasn’t changed however - the rack system. This allows the train to operate on steep slopes and no better technology has been found for routes like this! Soon after it was introduced, the Montenvers train became one of the main attractions in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Valley. It could carry over a million passengers a year in the peak period in the 1990s. On board, you’ll be travelling alongside the many mountaineers who take the Montenvers train on their way to or from their climbs.
