We have used the ru-vid.comUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!
You covered it well. Live in Texas, you need a generator, especially during Hurricane season. It will run your Refrigerators, and freezer, and fans. Also have enough left over for the Ham radios since your cellphone usually doesn't work for a week or two since everyone across the country are using them. Your area can only handle so many calls. Also need it in case of a disaster, you need to be able to secure your house to protect your guns in bad times.
Please stay safe using your portable generator ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I1jT3ANENvI.html a lot of people died from carbon monoxide during a hurricane season. I swear I was cleaning the carb on my champion 3500 generator when I seen this vid pop up 😆 You made a great point about the wheel kit haha mine is the older/early version that takes a different style wheel kit and not in stock anywhere..i lugged this thing from my basement outside and it was difficult. The model In this vid is the one I have been eyeing.I like Honda but I can’t justify the $ Over a champion, considering so have not taken care of mine and it still runs great.I love these type of videos..there’s a lot about generators that I don’t know.
I have had my Champion for over 3 years living off grid and no complaints with it ,,,,still using it daily for a range of operations here on the ranch . So I give them a thumbs up !!
I like that you qualify your comment with "As a small engine mechanic that serviced/repaired many generators..." and then say something completely uninformed and one-sided. I have nothing against Honda and believe their generators are top notch, but there are many alternatives out there (including the Champion in this video), that perform just as reliably for significantly less money. I have both a 9,000 watt and a 3,500 watt (invertor) Predator from Harbor Freight and they operate just as well as any Honda at a third the price! My 9K does most of my house during the day and the 3.5K does the computers and runs at night to keep things quiet. I live in the northeast on an old power grid and lose my power often. Both units have well over 1000 hours on them in the past three years and NO issues. Change the oil and spark plug as directed, clean the units (and the spark arrestors), and maintenance run them monthly during the summer and weekly during the winter (though they often don't get maintenance runs as they are actually running to provide power!). Oh, and I run ethanol gas (with Stal-bil) and I don't drain the tanks/carbs!!! And if/when the ethanol finally destroys the carbs, the rebuild kit is twenty bucks! Thanks for your humble opinion - I'll stick with my Predators!
@@donabele1243 Back in the early 80's I was a certified auto mechanic and I'll never forget this time an old man came in to the dealership for something, I can't remember what for, but I do remember he had a slant 6 Chrysler engine and I looked at the odometer and he had almost half a million miles on it. I asked him how many time he rebuilt that engine and he said I never touched it, other then starters, alternators, water pumps and P/S. I said you're kidding, what kind of oil do you run, and he said the the cheapest crap I can get my hands on or what's on sale, BUT I change it as soon as it starts to get dark or looks dirty, and some times that's at a 1,000 miles, and some times it's closer to 3,000 miles but NEVER over 3,000 miles ever. He said I started the engine up, and let it warm up for a couple minutes BEFORE I ever moved it, and I let it run a couple minutes to let it cool down before shutting it off, and that's it. He said he NEVER put a cold engine under a load, and never shut a hot engine down without letting it cool off, and change that oil and filter, cause they are cheaper than a rebuild. I think 99% of these things come down to maintenance much more than the name. I'm not knocking Honda at all, and they are right up there with being top shelf, but for the"AVERAGE" guy who needs a gen set for the rare short term emergency, and not for his livelihood, I think some thing like this Champion is fine.
Buy the Honda, cry once. That is just one man's opinion. I'd own this generator...nice option for the propane. If it can run on propane you shoul dbe able to modify it to run on Natural Gas. I own the Honda 2000 inverter Generator. It's been great. I do not store gasoline in the generator, As I don't use it often. I also run the carb until it's empty.
As much as i dont like ethanol....i think more equipment should be ethanol/alcohol compatable..... What if you want or need to run it on some moonshine?
I got one but it's a 6200 watt starting/5500 watt on gasoline and 5500 starting 5000 running on propane. I use it when my solar system gets low from overcast days. Champion recommends if you use gas, to shut off the fuel switch and let the engine drain the carb with no load to starve the engine of gas for shut off. So the gas doesn't sit and clog the carb.

Thank you 🙏. Have a few champions. Keep clean fuel. You want it to start when needed. Do your maintenance or you will regret it. Trust me. Great review. Thanks
I just put in a Champion 10,000 watt gen for the house, with a transfer switch to the house panel. 10 hrs run time on 5 gal of gas, thinking of getting a dual fuel for a back up to it, an installing a 250 lb propane pig to save the gasoline just in case of after a hurricane you can't get gasoline, been there, an bought the T-shirt. Thx for the vid.

I bought this model because of the dual fuel feature and it seems to be much louder than my Honda. I'm looking for a shed design or some other way to quiet it down, then it will probably be my go-to.
Great video, even for an AF guy, ha ha. Sorry, retired SF. I appreciate a video on something different, but necessary for power loss. Keep up the good job and as always keep walking with Yehsua!
The 12 volt output is 8 amps. So, it will act as a battery charger but you won't be able to jump start a vehicle with a dead battery. I bought one of these after watching this video. It is dope.
So if you want something to power something in your house during an outage is a conventional generator or inverter generator better? I was looking at the Champion 7500/9375 dual fuel portable generator sold by Rural King
If you plan to use things like PC's, laptops, gaming consoles and TVs (which are helpful to keep boredom away) then yes, you should use an inverter generator. The often more powerful but crude non-inverter generators are more for appliances and even furnaces and central air. The inverters can power the furnace and AC too, it just takes up more of their bandwidth/power output.
Be careful with that grounding. If power being draw out of outlets on the generator than not too worry but if this generator install as a permanently attach to the house than have to switch the neutral wire if the generator have a bonding jumper to ground other word if it’s a separate derive system. If there’s no internal bonding to the ground on the generator than don’t have to switch the neutral when switching over to generator power.
@@DaedalusHelios Viable for what use? Modern solar units can be used and charged at the same time making them somewhat more flexible. The best solution is dual IMO for most short term needs. You can flex between both depending on what is needed at the time.
@@DaedalusHelios Powering a full house with solar would require a "normal" permanent install of a solar system. At ~5500 watts it would cost around $15000. A solar panel for an emergency/temporary basis might be good for about 100 watts but won't have any reasonable amount of storage. My vote goes for a generator for emergencies if any more than about 100 watts are needed or if power is needed when there isn't good sunlight.
@@DaedalusHelios I'm not powering my full house, just needed items to make it through a week or so if the power is out. Eventually i'd like to get a setup for a gas generator to run my AC.
I know you probably have quite the collection of generators now, but would you review their factory tri-fuel generator? It would be interesting to see how that would work as a near whole home generator with limitless fuel if you have it connected to natural gas. As always this was a great review!
Good luck finding one. I bought one recently from Lowes who got a shipment of several dozen................................. they sold out in hours. Same goes for deep freezes. These generators were $650 per.
Great video, wondered about the open frame noise. We have the 3500W inverter dual fuel ver and run our 30A RV with A/C and all just fine on LP. It's never even had Gas in it :-)
Like the features of the champions. Went with a whole home a few years back... got tired of the Gas, carb issues even with running it completely empty and using stabilizer. We already use propane for Heat and the water heater so it was already there.
Everyone really needs to watch this video about generator safety if they have portable generator ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I1jT3ANENvI.html I just hope people use their generators correctly. I’m just trying to be nice. Thank you. It’s a very important advice. Please agree. I’m not forcing you to watch this.
this video more important today than ever! i think i want one to power my house... but i would rather have portable power... i also dont want it to weigh a SHIT TON so i want the wheels and handle and strap it to myself and a buddy to lug it like mules. two small ones seems like more of what i want than 1 big one.....seems like this would meet my needs and i would just plug in the fridge, washer, dryer, stove one at a time
this is the 3rd time ive come back to this video in under a year. i think im finally ready to get one i see they downed the plane to help drop fire retardant, bullshit climate change is a hot topic but they have not done any controlled burns so the fuel for the fire is there, heat wave is here, drought, these goddamn ransomware attacks, shut down pipelines, and removed the alaska leases. if the california power outages and fires didnt catch your attention, but the texas power outage and east coast gas pipeline did, now a meat shortage from a hack, you better stock up now. EVERYTHING costs more IF you can even get it. go ahead and call me a conspiracy theorist, but dont come ask me for shit
Run recreational fuel and save yourself a lot of hassle. Also keep extra oil handy because it is recommended to change every 48hrs. Oil and recreational fuel will keep those small engines running great.
My father just bought a similar model feature just 7500 watt run. Good price and the duel fuel feature is cool. I have a Generac portable that I can run my entire home off of if need be. 7 years old and starts on the 1st pull.

Your description of Inverter vs Non Inverter is a bit inaccurate as far as waveforms go. Traditional mechanical generators produce a true sine wave always the voltage may vary, cheap inverter generators produce a square wave, high end inverters can output a true sine wave.
Very informative etc, etc. But, stay pure man. We tune in to see ‘Guns and Gear’...this is where you excel and shoulders above the rest. Drop the Hardware Stores! 😂
Mr. GnG, have you considered diesel fueled generators ? If I were king MOGAS would be outlawed for POVs and diesel powered motors would be the law of the land, IMO. FWIW.
Do not hardwire a generator directly into your electrical panel or house wiring without 10000% knowing what you're doing, or just have an electrician do it. Badly wired generators backfeeding through the aerial 120v lines and through transformers, and powering up the grid during outages, is a thing. Not good. Extremely dangerous.
*** it would cause death if you were to run it in a closed space on either gasoline or propane*** Running on propane will also be CO & CO^2. Your still burning hydrocarbons, they just have a smaller chain (3 vs 8; prop vs oct). I am assuming you'd be using the non-ethanol version. I would think as far as byproducts, propane would have a bit less though. Should burn a lot cleaner as the only other thing they probably put in it is the thiol for smell detection. But that's probably in the low ppm or ppb. Again, it would cause death if you were to run it in a closed space on either gasoline or propane.
The diagram you have for modified vs pure sine wave is incorrect. The standard generator, due to the design of the actual generator, makes a pure alternating current (AC) sine wave. It is true that the frequency can vary with the engine speed and the voltage can vary with the loading. Inverter generators make direct current (DC) and then use an inverter to turn that into AC. The quality of the inverter will determine how smooth the AC is. It can be the modified / choppy AC or it can be a very smooth / pure sine wave, The quality of the inverter will also determine the accuracy of the frequency and voltage regulation.
Awsome video bro. Every serious prepper has some kind of backup power. Or plans on getting one. We have record breaking weather every year and so many people get caught in power outages without any way to run the items they need to get them thrugh a hard time. Mine is a firman 9400 watt duel fuel. Don't forget to get an extra Spark plug and air filter and fresh oil just incase it's a long term power outage.
yes, open frame is much louder! Modified sine wave generators should not be used for motorized appliances like air conditioners & refrigerators. It's OK for resistive loads like heaters and lights.
to power electronics like computers and tv's is it better recommended to use a inverted generator like this one, or can any generator work fine without risk of damaging the electronics?
Recently a Wind storm took out our power for five days. We were able to borrow one on the last day. I'm buying a generator now and will look at this one for sure.
Wow... Bye bye beardie!! Hey man, great video, totally relevant to what's going on right now. Looks like a great little generator to have on hand. Thanks for sharing!
Man, I always appreciate your videos and have been watching for quite a while now. But for reviewing a generator, I feel the need to mention the co2 hazard. A family of 5 passed away recently from running a generator to close to an open window after Hurricane Laura hit.
I have a smaller/lighter/quieter 1600/2000 watt Champion Inverter generator. I think they are pretty decent. Doubt Honda is worth 2X the price even though the quality may be marginally better.
I always use Seafoam when I fill up my small engines. I've been doing this for years with no issue. It's a fuel stabilizer and carb cleaner. Just my $0.02
I always put in about double what the Stabil label says. Over 5 years ago I had to use my generator and just after I dumped in a bunch of gas the power came back on. I run mine for about 30 min maybe 3-4 times a year just to splash the oil around. I always turn off the gas and let it run until it dies. It always starts and runs fine. I’ll probably run the tank dry next year.
The advantage of propane is that it doesn't go bad like gasoline does. With this generator keeping a few tanks of propane on hand is a much better idea than trying to do long-term storage of gasoline (which is a real pain and you *might* get one year out of gasoline).
