Fantastic match. This is the first time I have ever really been interested in CONCACAF Champions League and hopefully the competition will continue to rise to the next level. For soccer in North America to ever reach its potential, there must be a strong MLS and a strong Liga MX. I am very excited and optimistic about the future.
1. MLS fans are dead. 2. Mexican fans also seem to be pretty dead judging by this game. 3. Tf kind of defending is that? 3 attackers in your penalty area and you can see your CDM literally dragging his feet back to goal from 20 yards away. 4. I think the final should be a one match tie. You know, like the UEFA Champions League? It just makes it better! :D 5. Put extra time fcol! What is this a league match? Fix all this and North American football would actually be really entertaining.
Call me Debbie your 2nd point is already false by what you said. Judging us Mexican fans based off this game only is dumb. Watch Liga MX and then judge.
Raúl Yes I'm well aware you don't judge an entire league off just one match. Which is why I put "judging by this game". I was trying to indicate that this was the only game I've watched.
I’m a chivas fan but respect to Toronto u guys played great and defeated some great teams this was a great game no matter the outcome thanks for the great game good luck with ur season and who knows maybe we’ll see each other like this again
Glad it was you over Tigres or America, humble coach and friendly atmosphere. Very admirable you only have Mexican player. Still heartbreaking, but knowing this club they will become obsessed until they achieve their goal.
I’m glad my Chivas won, but I gotta admit, Toronto is a hell of a team, beating Tigres & America back to back and then pushing us to penalties after being down 1-3 is truly impressive..... best of luck to Toronto in the next CCL, you guys are a very talented team.
Respect for Toronto, from a Guadalajara fan. They really were a worthy rival. P.S. Ignore the trolls (mostly club america fans). Guadalajara is the most successful mexican team, with great integrity and classy followers. We loved this game because we love fútbol as much as MLS fans. Keep the hard work, we wish you better luck next year.
Honestly, i'm a tigres fan, but america has many titles you don't have. In fact, only reason america and chivas are considered to have the same number ofl liga mx titles, is because they don't give america credit for 4 they won in their beginnings. It's 7 concachampions, against 2 (with this one) for america and chivas.
For people saying that Chivas is a bad team, they've won 5 cups in 3 years (including this one) there's no shame in losing to them they've just had a bad season in the Liga Mx but they're still a good squad.
Yeah. But they can’t win the one that counts Liga Mx. They’re in danger of getting demoted and Liga Mx is trying to change the rules so that they don’t go down.
i go for chivas but wow i gotta give toronto a big thx they were an amazing rival and gave us a great game. im sure the game had both chivas and toronto fans on the edge of their seats. In my opinion, it was one of those games where neither team deserved to lose. Well done Toronto and keep up the good work!👏👏👏
disagreee my friend. given the FREEZING (not kidding) conditions in Toronto, I think fans got it but most importantly, players got it. thats all that matters
It was an amazing match Canadians, nothing to be ashamed, you all played like warriors. Thanks for giving us an amazing 180 minutes !!!! You have all my respect Toronto FC !!. 🇲🇽💜🇨🇦 If Toronto went to the Club World Cup, I would support him. Go Concacaf!
Mad props to Toronto FC. A true dignified opponent. They almost gave me a heart attack and the end of the regular 90 mins. I hope they have a successful season in the MLS.
Uziel Ortiz....
You do realize Toronto being champions of MLS lost to a 2nd to last place team in the Liga mx right?. Hahaha have a seat. Thats an embarrassing match theyve lost.
Ron Sicat so was Toronto against tigres and america, but chivas has no foreigner players. And respects to toronto, not many mls teams can beat Mexican teams
Toronto fans, the best in the world, Toronto deserved to be Champions the first half time showed impressive great level, great final! Was an honor been played against Toronto Fc I, respect from Guadalajara, next time you will be champions Toronto because you deserve.
Congratulations to both teams. We expect more teams like Toronto FC to compete in our region. Last 6 years 2 teams from Canada representing their Canadians Championship! Sounds great from Canada especially how they are involving in football. I am Chivas Fans, but this Toronto team is above MLS Teams and most of Mexican football's teams. I guess in the future this tournament will be more interesting for Liga MX, MLS, teams representing Canada, UNAFUT, and the best teams of the Central y Caribbean. There is too much rivalry in football, but from here (Mexico) there is too much empathy seeing good football in our area. I dare to say i really enjoyed Toronto FC playing this tournament. Well done for this team. Greetings to Toronto's Fans and its club. Good luck next time, hope to see classic games against US MLS and Liga MX teams coming. The only thing i didn't like it, was the format, it's like the oldest Concacaf CUP instead of champions league. What if there are group phases with more US, Canada and Mexico berths. Once again congratulations to both teams! ;)
I'm proud of the team. They pushed this to the bitter end. It was always going to be an uphill climb after the way the first leg ended, plus the fact that playing in Mexico is always a breath sapping affair. Toronto FC had not won a single match on Mexican soil in this Champions League campaign prior to this 2-1 regulation time result. During this emotional time with the country still mourning the loss of ten Torontonians in that terrorist attack, the team exhibited why we proudly use the hashtag #TorontoStrong. Thank you boys! I'm starting to see some of those sore American boo boys peering out of the darkness of the caves they've been hiding in for the last four or five months to litter forums with anti Bradly/Altidore vitriol. Welcome back to the surface life. Four months in the gutter, nearly six months of whining and Michael Bradley remains the best American holding midfielder, Jozy Altidore the best striker in the USMNT arsenal. Today's result changes nothing. Their legacy as winners, as champions remains untouched, a plethora of crybabies and social media users remain nobodies behind screens. Hats off to Chivas. Deserved champions. There's no shame in losing to them, especially this deep in the competition. Best of luck to our Mexican friends against the likes of Real Madrid at the FIFA Club World Cup.
I don't think any Mexican football fans are mocking Toronto FC right now. There is without a doubt, a level of mutual respect between us and them now, aided by the fact that we so nearly usurped Chivas' title bid and did it by dumping two other Mexican sides from the competitions. But they have a stronghold on CONCACAF competitions and this is the second time a Canadian side goes all the way to the final only to fall at the last hurdle and at the hands of a Mexican club side. Montreal in 2014 was the first.
Good Game Toronto and prayers to the victims families. On a side note either way lets have some poutine from smokes and then some tacos that way well end up winning
ZekuEtyopia Toronto did a great tournament, in Mexico many thought it was going to do with the title. Toronto and Chivas gave us an extraordinary game, very exciting. In Mexico, Toronto is respected and recognized.
i'm a fan of Chivas but I mean that Toronto fc is a great team and gave face by MLS even so Chivas is a team with 111 years of history and many fans in Mexico so would not lose. Congratulations Toronto fc for being a great rival in this competition.
Awesome game Toronto!! As a Mexican living in Canada i highly enjoyed your Futbol and wish you the best. I hope you keep evolving and keep playing in our country!
From a Chiva hard court fan. Congratulations to all Toronto fans, they could have won thats for sure, it is a great team, MLS is growing very strong, they deserve to go on the next one, if that happens We will be cheering for you, you can count on that.
FANTASTIC MATCH, Toronto is an amazing team with very good players and amazing supporters and this comes from a Chivas fan honestly RESPECT RESPECT MORE THAN ANYTHING I hope you guys can achieve your goal on winning that title ❤️
*WHY* would you let Bradley take a penalty? Have you not learned from history? Did you forget Seattle beating us in penalties just a year and a half ago?
This was the best shot an MLS team had in forever, kinda sad cus the Mexiican teams that get in for next season are probably gonna spend stacks for this not to happen again.
Well ... I'm a Tigres fan, when I saw that we were going against Toronto,I thought that we were almost classified to semifinals, sorry for underrating the MLS, never imagined that you got all that quality in such a short period of time (last year to now), congrats for making it to the finals, see you next year, y para Chivas, de todos los equipos mexicanos solo había uno que no veía ni cerca de semis, felicidades, me cerraron el hocico honestamente
Lots of respect for Toronto they came with everything this game and it was definitely an epic fight between both teams Toronto was not an easy team to beat.. respect
Been 2 years since this match. Only 2 MLS teams have won the CONCACAF Champions League - those being DC United in 1998 and LA Galaxy in 2000. 5 MLS teams have been in the final: DC United(1998), LA Galaxy(1997, 2000), Real Salt Lake(2011), Montreal Impact(2015) and Toronto FC(2018).
i must congratulate toronto on this fantastic run, anybody who follows socceer knows the skill it takes to play and toronto you have shown how its done. i used to be a hockey guy but changed to soccer because of the total human element it takes to play soccer without the all the equipment and and brakes you have in other sports. will be going to bmo field to watch more of tfc.
Great game, very exciting, worthy of a great final. Toronto and Chivas gave it their all, either team deserved to be a champion. Hopefully the next tournaments are as interesting as this one. Today a great game was played, great show.
Both teams did very well. Toronto FC came with a comeback. When they were going to penalties, I was like "They're (Chivas) goners",since they almost never make their shots in the Liga MX. I was shocked that they made all of them and won. Chivas!Chivas!Chivas! But Toronto, you did good too.You gave us a scare, to show us you're no ordinary MLS team.
This game only showed us that: 1. Marky Delgado sucks. 2. TFC are the equivalent to team England when it comes to penalties. 3. NASA is still locating the ball Michael Bradley launched into orbit. 4. The north american developmental programs are ATROCIOUS. Bezbatchenko needs to get on the phone and start making some more phone calls. Bring in players with Euro experience and release all the dead weight from the squad.
You were so close to make history... I've never thought a canadian team beating a Mexican team and go to the intercontinental cup and play against probably Real Madrid..
As a Chivas fan I shitted a brick when Toronto scored the 2 goal & almost scored the 3 at the end of the game !! But Iam glad my team came up on top !! Good game Toronto & also a wake up call to the LIga Mx teams that teams from USA & Canada are improving 👌 Viva concacaf 🇲🇽🇨🇦🇺🇸🇨🇷
Up to the 92 second minute, the game could have gone either way. I am not going to be overzealous but I think either team last night could have given any team a good scrap. There was a lot of pressure on Bradley when he was up and there was A LOT of pressure on Chivas to somewhat save face. Sometimes nationalistic pride takes over especially during the current political climate and brings out the passion/tribalism/fervor we feel for football/association soccer. Those TFC fans that made it to Chivas stadium shows true support. Chivas fans OMG... The fans, stadium and atmosphere is world class. Great game by both sides.
I dont know how we pulled that one off really... Toronto is a hell of a team... Our backs to the walls both games... Many might think its embarrassing to lose to an mls team but things are changing. You guys are gonna fill that trophy case for the concacaf champions soon.
They should merge CONCACAF and CONMEBOL and have tournaments involving both North and South American teams. Imagine having a Copa America every 4 years featuring Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, the USA and Mexico among other teams, as well as cross-continental club tournament featuring the likes of River Plate, Boca Juniors, Flamengo, Santos, Penarol, Seattle Sounders, LA Galaxy, Toronto FC, Chivas, Club America and all the other great clubs of both North and South America. It would be huge.
Respect for Toronto, I personal think one of the best teams in mls and as a Mexican I would love to see giovinco Bradley and altidore play in ligaMx one day, they have great talent. Vamos mis chivas!
Bradley is like the Palermo of the US, or like any mexican player, of the Mexican team. LOL, We suck at penalties too. It's maybe a north american thing.
I think Toronto has potential to be one of the best teams of the CONCACAF and also I think they need to get better their physical condition for this type of competition because this was the reason more important of their defeat
Im a chivas fan and i loved we won the cup. Toronto has a great team you all should be proud. I keep saying mexico and us will build the new greatest region of soccer. God bless USA and Mexico.
I keep seeing the Delgado miss, to be that close to a Championship it is not an easy skill to volley when the pressure is on but to lose in penalties is heartbreaking and when I saw the Giovinco pass across I thought it was in to go from what would have been an epic celebration and winner and wonderful feeling to just deflation. Our guys left everything them had out there. Its the crushing thing about sport we will be back maybe next year but this hurts like hell Im glad we have our championship but the fact that we could have two and a champions league. The truth is we played that entire tournament injured with several starters out. We play Chivas full strength and we beat them. The rest of the year is going to be a struggle winning MLS cup again with our injuries I don't see it the Difference Without Vasquez for Leg one and Morrow and Mavinga ended up being the difference if all 3 play we win the whole thing, Seba Penalty not given don't forget that clear as day penalty in leg one, But Marky not scoring is going to hurt for a long time....
Line Up Guadalajara R. Cota 30 (GK) I. Brizuela 11 J. Pereira 4 O. Alanis 2 E. Hernandez 6 C. Salcido 3 M. Perez 25 C. Cisneros 24 O. Pineda 7 R. Pizarro 20 A. Pulido 9 Toronto FC A. As a chivas fan I had no expectations going into the cal because we had a weak squad and we weren’t playing well. I honestly think it was our unity that won it but Toronto was the a really tough team.
From a Chivas fan. What a great game and what a hell of a team you guys (Toronto FC) have, mad respect for the style of football you implement on the pitch (the best i've seen of any MLS team). With that said, 1. There should be no pk's until after extra time or golden goal, i disliked that chivas won on pks but nonetheless; i'm still happy my team won, and 2 why didn't you guys show all the highlights? Your keeper Bono saved quite a few, even chivas hit one on the post.
Why does Toronto play in the MLS if it is from Canada? Well, that's not the point, the important thing is that Chivas won and I was a fan of another team from the League of Mx (Cruz Azul) I liked that he won a team of 100% MEXICANS! again Mexico representing Concacaf #JuntosSomosCa3rones
There was no CPL when Toronto FC was formed - Canada was in the middle of a long and annoying professional football league restructuring and it could have taken forever (as it turned out CPL just finished its inaugural year). So starting up an MLS based team was easy to see as the best thing to do at the time. Remember the NHL which was Canadian-founded is played pan-continent and not a national league so it's not an unusual concept for Canadian professional teams.
i suffered a lot on both of these games. I always saw my Chivas very weary and Toronto was just too solid. To be fair, now that games are over, I really enjoyed them. They both put up a good fight. I did not like the way Giovinco yelled at the refs, because he did kick his opponents, and I almost lost respect for the club, But we are human beings and emotion takes over our actions sometimes. Good job Toronto. Congratulations to my team Chivas. Never call a "nobody" to your opponents, because if you win, you would have beatten a nobody, and if you lose, even worse.
Delgado!..... what a miss! You can´t lose chances like that in a final !...... Anyway... Toronto did a great tournament. Congrats to Chivas for this achievement, the 2nd in their history after a looong time.
I’m so proud of this team, but that last minute miss was pretty dreadful... You can’t really dig out the guys for missing spot kicks, it’s a pressure situation and they’ve buckled. An amazing run to the final, we’ve done brilliantly. Now the task is to translate our CL form into MLS: we’ve got some catching up to do. PS - why on earth isn’t extra time a thing in North America?
yandel 321 - gracious in victory 👏 you won against an MLS side with a central midfielder at CB for 90 minutes... If MLS is so bad, you probably should’ve kicked our ass?
So congrats on the win - but don’t get it twisted that Liga MX is actually any good. Domestically, I’m a West Ham fan and I was subjected to watching Enner Valencia play football for two years... He’s fundamentally poor at most aspects of the game, but in Mexico he looks pretty sweet.
So again, congratulations on the win. But you have illusions of grandeur if you genuinely believe this is spells the continuation of Mexican dominance, it’s coming to a close.
Luke James mmm bro chivas is now in 17th place in the local mx league, and theres 18 teams, of all of the players only pizarro might it miiight be on the national team, so yeah i think the mx league still ahead of mls, the mls is improving maybe but the mx league is also goinf forward bro
