I wouldn't say that it is is not planned properly (medium and small scale). It is because The people do not maintain whats there. If they did maintain it, i bet you that it would look beautiful. But thank you for the insight.
indian politicians could not maintain it the way it should have been. Corruption and laziness plus no out of box thinking reflects in how chandigarh looks like today
GYT X yes they are to be blamed but government should not fear people to an extent where they relax all rules quickly. I live in Australia and i do not see rules being relaxed by councils here. Some councils dont want front fence or wall for any house and that is how it has been since starting
Le Corbusier had made the observation that cities were spreading out and becoming unbearable and congested. His solution was to build compact, high-rise buildings surrounded by hierarchical communication spaces for the various means of transportation. It seems to work in Chandigarh despite planned bicycle lanes were never build and the greenway has been used for buildings in some district. He was criticized for its european style. But in this case it's more a modern style adpated to India. For exemple the shopping road has its pedestrian walk always covered by the shadow of the buildings. He tries to use natural ways to cool buildings. Local materials were used to build most buildings except the biggest ones. For a city build from scratch it can be considered has a success. Now it has to evolve keeping in mind the original intentions.
