I figured it out. You have to make the .iso file (windows) bootable before copying it to a DVD disc. I use powerISO and go under settings and make it "bootable". It works like a charm. Also, make sure to run bios and set CD-rom as first priority to boot

Now we're doing some old school moves, 01000111100010101011111000000100000111. Did you drink TAB and chew on Twislers and Skittles while you were breaking all this down? I love it! Great job!

@DjDowney2k9 yes, I just used a different way to make a bootable DC copy and it worked like a charm without any BIOS changes

Yup that would be why man. The cmos battery will let the bios remember settings so if there aint anything to remember what u told it to do then i doubt it would boot from disc. Hope this helps.

My problem is I put my cdrom as first boot with no 2nd or 3rd boot device (i.e. hard drive), save settings and exit CMOS. Then instead of booting from my win7 disc, it just gives me a message saying "boot failure: system halted". I go change it back to my hard drive as the first boot device and I get taken to windows. The cdrom works while in Windows , but refuses to boot the disc to allow me to reformat my hard drive.

No problem. Great, i replaced my battery and it working perfect in terms of the bios settings. However my CD-Rom drive does not boot. The CD-ROM is currently set to the highest priority on the bios boot screen. The cd is a CD-R is being read as the LED is breathing, however it doesnt boot. Even my official XP Pro installation CDs dont boot :X Im trying to mod my XBOX. And the files that are booted are used to mod the xbox to run DVDs, Music and Emulators. Just side info if your wondering.

you can't - bios settings are stored on the chip on the motherboard - not in a file

What are you trying to boot into? If it's something you've burned/compiled make sure it's working, and if you only have a CD compatible drive you wont be able to boot from any DVDs.

Have an 1996 tecra 500CDT and the three things to go to change the boot drive are not bringing up the screen and only f12 brings shows Ready for Bios update diskette in the drive and press any key when ready to proceed.

well if its vista, aparently vista doesnt boot from cd. or if that isnt the problem then try magicISO to burn the disc it is most likely the fix to ur problem.

so to change the orther after the windows startup.i hope you do understand i dont want to change it in BIOS!!!!

oh.. the live cd is burnt in a cd-r .. i don't know why it doesn't boot from there.. it's an external optical dvd drive

i can't boot the live cd although i've changed the boot order in the bios.. ahmm.. i think it doesn't support plug and play dvd-rw?

Thanks for the reply. Nope, i trying to boot from an XP and yea i used MagicISO. Though one source may be my BIOS Battery. Its dead. Maybe thats the problem? Well im not sure if its called a BIOS Battery or CMOS battery but that flat circular battery on the motherboard. It died a while ago. Should i go replace that?

floppy disc drive is probably the cd rom drive

i think you have to put removable devices at the top/above the hard drive. BTW im guessing that, not100% sure itts right.

Thanks for making your video, its really great that you give your time to help others :) The problem I am having is whilst in the Bios, with my USB device selected and highlighted, the negative and positive key are not changing the position, so I am unable to shift the USB to first or top priority. I haven't been able to find any button that shifts it up. Though it does specify in the bios directions that these are the correct buttons, I have one laptop the hardrive has just gone and a week later the other laptop hardrive is about to go, quite quickly it seems! So I am in a race against time, to not leave myself without a laptop :) much appreciation if you can help, please, thankyou, Clare

mine does not look like that. also, when i set my version of your screen to boot cd before hdd it doesnt read the cd. im trying to run an image i burned to my cd to delete my admin password bc its locked me out.

Yeah, it could be that your optical drive doesn't support DVD-rw

I have tried about 20 times. I have gone into my BIOS and made the CD ROM the first, as well as USB the first. I have a burned DBAN on 2 different CD's. I have also put it onto a USB stick. Every time I reboot computer, DBAN does not start, Windows XP starts. ANy suggestions?

If any of you have an HP Pavilion (mine is dv5) and none of these keys let you access your BIOS, then I can help.. It isn't F2 or any of those, its the esc key, to the left of F1 :D

my CD rom is at the top, WinXP cd is in the CD rom although it just loads up my windows and that's it ...

ok maybe someone will answer this so i am going to give it a go. using windows xp, the p2(or what ever its called it isnt working only after bootup same as my usb keyboard) i want to reinstall windows but i cant change the boot order.i can get into bios but no further mode.tried with wireless keyboarand bunch other working usb and old jack keyboards.i dont need any stupid answer like hey get keyboard,reset bios or god knows what.i want to know how to change the order editing boot.ini or others.

I have 1 prob...i also have XP but my Bios menu is different...it dowsn't have those categories ,,boot order etc but has some options...it says first boot device,,second boot device,third boot device and boot from other device(which is disabled)...i'm trying to put cdrom as a first boot device and when i restart it doesn't give me to press a key to boot like it should...do you know what's going on??thx

Ok when i get to the boot tab i don't even have any of that stuff.I need to fix my computer because i downloaded a custom version of Windows XP. It worked fine until i downloaded IE8 and restarted. I got this message saying that windows has encountered a problem that is making windows not to beable to activate it And that is probally from the custom windows. I was lucky i burned the REAL Windows XP before this happened. I need to get this fixed. CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM!

i actually found out what i had to do..it was SATA-CD-rom.. anyway what do u mean? bot? u mean bought? i really did not understand this please answer again xD if u are talking about piracy, i am too used to it to give it up now :P! anyway the anti virus did not work...any ideas for this? EXCEPT formatting...i have that in mind.. i am planning to format my D: drive and not C: i hope that keeps my old files...

@EvilOne13805 I think your hard drive has been wiped clean somehow. That happened to me once. You can check by inserting Win Xp installation CD. The worst is that you will have to reinstall Windows :(
