How do you make sure the tail end of the new color doesn't slip back out? I'm having problems with everything being too loose on the colour changes :(
@bellacococrochet
@bellacococrochet Год назад
It can be tricky to get the hang of at first but the trick is to hold onto the tail end with the hand holding your yarn as you work. Every five or so stitches you can stop crocheting and gently pull on the tail end to make sure it's not too loose and poking out in between the stitches 😊

I really needed this, I'm making a blanket and I'm nearing the start of the color change row (it's a big square in the middle of the blanket) And I have no idea how to change color, especially since it's popcorn stitch, single crochet, and then different color popcorn stitch. Which idek how I'll do that
@bellacococrochet
@bellacococrochet Год назад
It's really simple to change colour - as shown in the video you just need to pull through the new colour when making the final part of the last stitch. For the pattern you describe, you'll need to pull through the new colour to complete the single crochet, and then pull through your new colour when working the final part of the popcorn stitch. Instead of cutting your yarn, I would recommend carrying the yarn along by working over it 😊
@aishasqualli3958

Do you have a video for how to work a border into that with the tail? Also how would you handle the end of yarn that is left over if you’re not doing a border (so it wouldn’t just be hanging there lol)?
@bellacococrochet
@bellacococrochet Год назад
Before you work a border I would recommend sewing in all your ends as shown in my video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6qXEcQj_0L0.html That way you won't have to contend with bits of yarn getting in the way 🥰

Is there any disadvantage to weaving in the ends this way as you work? I’m wondering why this isn’t typically the way it’s done because it seems so much easier.
@bellacococrochet
@bellacococrochet Год назад
Depending on the stitch you're working, the ends can sometimes be visible if you look really closely when they're weaved in as you go like this. It's down to personal preference whether or not this is something that would bother you, and whether you'd prefer to sew in your ends the traditional way instead 😊

Fab video as always! Don't suppose you have a video showing colour change in the middle without having to carry the yarn at all please? I'm making a blanket which is 121 stitches wide and has 3 stars and a moon in random places on it, which i want yellow, but i don't want to carry the yarn through 90 odd stitches to do the next colour change on the next row (really hope this makes sense? 😅) thank you
@bellacococrochet
@bellacococrochet 3 года назад
You can change colour in the normal way by pulling through the new colour in the last part of the stitch, but then leave your contrast colour loose instead of carrying it along. When you work back along the row you can pick it back up, but you may not be able to hide the colour change as well as you can by carrying it along 😊

Thank you for the easy tutorial. What's the neatest way to change colors for a hat where the bottom edge will turn up at the bottom? I'm working the rows verticle to make it ribbed instead of spiraling and there will be an alternating color band at the bottom.
@bellacococrochet
@bellacococrochet 2 года назад
You're welcome 😊 I think for a hat worked in the way you describe, I would work a simple border of double crochet stitches along the edge. If you have a look at the tapestry crochet technique, you can alternate your two colours as you go. I demonstrate how to work tapestry crochet in my cushion CAL here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DN8Yii_w0AA.html
@laurent3415
@laurent3415 2 года назад
@@bellacococrochetThank you. I will give it a try. I think the yarn for the first hat is a bit too chunky for it, but I should be able to do it on the next two that use a lighter weight yarn.

Does the half double help with the project not get to stiff when having yarn run fully thru as ya go for mod color switches? My one raven square pattern became thick and stiff cuz of carrying yarn thru.
@bellacococrochet
@bellacococrochet 5 месяцев назад
If you’re pulling through the new yarn as you’re making the last part of the stitch you should find that this doesn’t affect the thickness of the work at all, as you’re not pulling through the old yarn so it’s a single strand still. I do have another technique for changing colours that you might like to have a look at: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YTZpaLROlCA.html 😊

@bellacococrochet

You're welcome 😊 You should carry across your non working yarn by crocheting over it as you go; once you've finished the contrast colour you can either carry it on to the end of the row or drop it to the back of your work, ready to pick back up again on the following row 😊

If you're carrying your yarn along and working over it, it's important to give it a little tug every few stitches to keep it nice and taut (but not so hard that it causes the work to bunch up). This will make the colour less noticeable 😊

It may just be the way you are pulling on the yarn as you crochet; if you hold the back of the threads it helps to keep them the right length 😊
