Im about ready to break down in tears. For many years i was singing this tune in my head from vague childhood memories of it. Never even knew that Luther vandross made it, and finally here it is in 2020,iam a middle aged person and this is helping me get over a very bad day. thank you ,You tube. wow.
Why isn't Luther Vandross in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? Not that he needs that honor to validate his talent, but with his contributions to music and his status as an R&B icon (I place him among the Motown and Stax greats) he more than deserves it. Plus, calling it as it is, he was the last great TRUE R&B singer to come along.
Luther is my number ONE all time favorite pure male singer! But I don't think Luther is Rock & Roll if that is what the distinction you mentioned refers to. He was a mostly a crooner / R&B / Soul.
@@MadMax-pk8ss Regardless tha man could "Sang".....he could have sung the yellow pages backwards & it would have sounded good. Crooner or not.....most singers can't carry a tune in a handbasket !!
@@darrylthomas2664 Yes, I absolutely agree. As I said above, he is my favorite male singer and no-one comes close. I listen to him EVERY single night and have done so for years. You know how children have lullabies or bedtime songs/stories that their internal clock expects when it's time for bed? Luther is that equivalent for me. I feel uncomfortable and strange if I don't go to sleep to his voice.
As a young sailor in 1982, at the Ingalls shipyards in Pascagoula, Ms., some of my shipmates and I caught the Luther Vandross concert in Mobile, Al. It was a classic performance, absolutely fantastic... RIP Mr. Vandross, thanks for singing to our hearts!!!
Nothing reminds me more of watching my mother and friends dancing feverishly to this song in the living room under the red light. Everybody danced. Good memories from my childhood!
I love RU-vid, NEVER knew this version even existed. The bells, blocks, Timbales and haunting bass line will heal a dying man. Put Luther's voice and the b.v.'s on top of it and you have a piece of Heaven on Earth.
Don't know why but right at the start of this song, my eyes start stinging. When the bass kicks in (followed by the guitar licks), they swell up with tears And then as soon as Luther joins, I start crying. RIP Luther
This era for music was the very very best they can’t match it nowadays all they talk about us shooting and killing give me this music anyday it’s awesome
OMG Brenda You just hit a homerun with those comments 🎯🎯 I'm soooooo happy I grew up on this magical sound so grateful to have lived through this era of beautiful music this kind of music will never go out of style 💥 The lyrics and that beat just janked ur heartstrings for decades ❤️❤️ Do U Agree?? This is what true talented sounds like 💯💯 A trip down memory lane good ode days I was in my twenties carefree INDEED ‼️Brenda I will always have ode skool music in my blood 4EVER ‼️ Can't have it no other way AMEN ‼️ Still listening how about October 26 2022
It's amazing as "Black Folks" we can say this and instantly understand each other. Also we can look at each other and know what's what.Something like an "Unspoken Heard!"
RU-vid friends, Luther couldn’t even legally claim this as his own song. But without a doubt in my mind, this was his best throughout his great career! By the way, “Change” was a great group as well!
The word ELEGANTISIMO was invented for this slick group.!!! The vocals are top notch. They (producers/arrangers/singers) knew exactly what they were doing back then.!!!!
No way was this his best, not even close. But it was a very good song and one that I'm quite fond of. Go watch one of the many famous live tours he did and you will see without a doubt which song is considered his Masterpiece.
Luther added Searching & The Glow of Love on his 1989 compilation album entitled “The Best of Luther Vandross: The Best of Love.” Tracks 1&2 are 1: Searching & 2: The Glow of Love, both by Change. Look for it on Amazon or eBay. You won’t find it on iTunes. Luther took ownership. Rightfully so.
In 1980 Change released "The Glow of Love", their first record and a real top album. Every track is a gem and Luther Vandross' voice made this piece of vinyl for a real rocket. At every corner in New York you heard in the summer of 1980 the sounds of Change or S.O.. Band. This summer was a really hot one and these sounds were the soundtrack!
Exactly!!!!! The 2 songs specifically were the songs of the summer of 1980. This jam & S.O.S. Band Take your Time. You heard them all over. We jammed to these while at the Basketball Tournaments at Kenwood. The best times.
Been SEARCHING for this song since the last time I heard it, twenty-something years because although Luther's voice is undeniable, as a kid I didn't know any of the words, plus I'd search for Luther songs and this a totally different ensemble. #PraiseGod
When I play this music at work they will tell me things like I'm showing my age...I simply tell them I take that as a compliment because my era did great friggin dancing music with memories galore!!!!
All of the “vocal gymnastics” Luther does on “Searching” & “The Glow of Love” are his very best work. Every song afterwards was Luther’s attempt to replicate that authenticity & raw spontaneity he put on those tracks. It’s why he went solo & became successful because of the genius he put on those two songs.
Yes, so true. Real road trip music. Take me back almost 40 years during those summer trips back home to Georgia, especially at night 2:00 in the morning where the roads were quiet and wide open. Miss those days and the old school music that was like a soundtrack to those days back then. You are definitely right on that. Thank you.
First time I heard this I remember exactly where I was. I watched people dancing from the balcony of the nightclub and it was amazing watching the sway and movement of the dancers. Just magical 🎶✨❤️
Great songs like this will never die. Have two 12" versions of this beautiful song. I just wish we could back the great days of this real !!!! music. Never get tired of these songs.
Change I remember this group with Luther Vandross singing searchin. I love this song to this very day. The music had a swinging beat and can dance to it as well.
This is America, sometimes we all forget that we are the envy of the world! Take a moment and really listen to this music, every generation has had it's own unique {tailored} crisis's . Americans always find a way to do the right thing.. This "is your home" if you want it. Classic tune.
Hit the town in the cold of the night….looking around for the warmth of the light… there was fog on the road so I guess no one saw me arriving… real singing, real band, real good music 🎶 🎵
I Never Saw Change In Concert , But I Really Enjoy The 🎵 Music Of This Group & This Was My Favorite Jam By Change & RIP " Bad Boy Having A Party " Mr Luther Vandross 🙏🙏
A fantastic floor filler - this is what London danced to in 1980. This sound coming over from the states influenced everyone from Adam and the Ants to Massive Attack and even Queen. Happy days!
Man does this take me back. A lot of my childhood and growing up sucked but the music...man it was amazing. I'd go from this to Zeppelin to Steely Dan. Fucking great time for music. And the bass in this...damn.
This is what you call a throwback 🔥 This record bring back memories to all of us,, we all know where we were, and what we were doing,, I was 17 playing paddle ball in the Bronx🙏❤️🔥
This is what real music sounds like no overdubbing just the singer and the band. RIP Mr Vandross I had the honor to meet him several times at different Awards shows from LA to NYC to London where I saw him play at his concert.
