In this GIMP tutorial, I show you how to change the color of any house in a photo using some easy photo manipulation techniques! This is a great tool for anyone looking to repaint their house who wants to preview what certain paint colors will look like before they start painting. Additionally, real estate agents and developers can use this as a way to show potential clients what a house will look like with a fresh coat of paint!
I have broken this tutorial down in a way that will make the editing process easy for beginners to follow. I use the paths tool, some paint tools, and layer modes to produce the result.

Thank you very much Michael. I always learn a lot from your tutorials. I continue to be impressed by the paths tool (or as you reminded us, it used to be called the Bezier tool, hence "B"), thanks to your helping us to use it properly, plus more experience in using it. Also grateful for the colouring hints, which is my weakest area in GIMP.

Awesome video! Can you consider doing a followup video talking about how to remove wood grain from an object without removing shadows and lights? Similar to this video, I'm trying to do this for kitchen remodeling, and want to know what painting the cabinets would look like (don't judge! It's not for me ). I have used this tutorial to select and mask all the cabinet areas, but it needs some further layers to be able to simplify the wood surfaces so that the grain is "smoothed" into very simple regions of lights and darks before the color layer. Thoughts?

My question isn't really about color. I was just wondering how to get the path tool to use the mypaint brush option that I want? Can it do that?

Quick comment on Gimp here - I just uploaded the latest version after I got a new PC. Tried to edit something with the clone tool, then the text tool, then when I went back to the clone tool it wouldn't 'clone' any more. So I went back to 2.8 and the problem is still there. Is this a fault with Gimp or with my new PC?

I tried this but the bucket tool was coloring everything outside the selection, any ideas? edit: If anyone encounters the same issue i fixed it by inverting the selection(ctrl+i)

How about an episode repeating this but use texture instead of color? For example, how to make the house look like all brick? Or vice versa, all wood or metal siding?

I have a image of a bull that is painted red and white. I want it blue, but I can not get all the area blue, some pixel remains white or red. Any idea of what I do wrong?

The color of the house I am changing is mustard yellow and when I want to change it to lets say White, it turns gray...so How do i fix that? I know its because the existing color is too dark..

I suggest after you select the area you want to paint, use the Saturation tool to desaturate the colors, then the levels tool to lighten the color from a darker gray to a lighter gray.

.i am trying to paint my house and i find your teachings to hard to follow.the photoshop videos on you tube are easier to follow .i tend to think there must be a better way to show how...you go to fast because you know it so well especially when explaining things.
