Thank You!!! I had concluded that my key needed replacement. Dealer quoted $600 + labor. You saved me a couple yo-yo trips back and forth to the dealer plus the money with this 3 minute video plus a couple more minutes of me doing what you instructed. Super grateful.
Thanks!!! I looked for more than 1,5 hrs on the internet for a solution and yours did the trick. I have a Cayman from 2007. Only I didn't hear any claxon but only a beep-beep sound. I had to try it twice holding the button for like 30 seconds and the second time it worked :)
Hi, thank you for your invaluable help. The key is programmed by inserting the key without turning it and pressing the button for about 8 seconds. Of many videos on youtube, you have been the most useful. Thanks again and greetings from Rome
Thank you for the informative response! More information is always good! One of the reasons why we love doing these videos is keeping the conversation open for quicker and easier way of doing things! Much appreciated!🤟🏻🔥
Good tip for young players here... Just an FYI (add on tip) On my 997.2 you unlock the door, place the key in the ignition (but DO NOT turn the key) and hold the remote unlock button for 5 seconds.
Thanks for this great solution which worked a treat. I did not see it on any other Porsche forum, I kept the 'lock' button depressed for more than 30 seconds and it was only when. I took the key out that I got the beep. But it worked. Job done!
Thanks so much for the tip. It worked for me. Mine is a boxster 987.2. Key in and hold the car open button. The red light next to the button keeps flashing for about 30 secs then stops. Then the remote works perfectly again.
Yay! Second key now working. My owner's manual (USA 2008 Cayman S) said hold button for 5 seconds. Nope! After seeing this video I held for maybe 30 seconds and it is now working! Thanks so much!
Hi, will it work on a new fob key? I just bought a 997.2 C4S….If I buy a new replacement fob key, can I program it to the car this way? Currently,I have an aftermarket key with a chip that only open the door and start the car(no buttons on the key) and I want to buy original key with the 3 buttons …
Either I'm Mister Lucky for a change or it may be Porsche changed something with the 2nd gen cars, I have a 2010 Cayman S. About a year ago the key FOB battery had it's died on date come up and I changed the batteries in both keys and they just worked fine. Would be interesting to know if this just goes on with 1st gen or I'm Mister Lucky; this time anyway .
Excellent, It worked instantly on my 2017 Macan! You saved me $175 with taxes CDN that the dealership was asking me « for that 90 minutes procedure! » what is going on???
What l found to work was. Change the battery (CR2032) in the key. Place the key in the ignition. Turn the key to ignition on (one) holding the central locking button (one) down for 30 second. Remove key. Check key remote? It worked. Basically want you done with out the car horn sound. Many thanks you saved me £'s (pounds)
When I brought mine into the dealer for some other stuff I told the check in girl one of my keys was dead & I changed the battery but nothing she said it’s $750 for a new key fob and programming. Lol
2008 987 Cayman. Battery change then no key remote operations. Key in, Ignition remains OFF, hold down car open button on the fob, yes can take up to 30 seconds. No beep, horn or visual but it does prog the keys. Thank you for the superb video post as it would be shooting in the dark without it !
This did not work for me at first. But I removed the key fob battery for several hours, figuring the key fob memory was corrupted. I then put the battery back in, followed the above procedure, holding the key button for 30 sec, and it programmed the key fob with a message key 2 recognized.!
Thank you so much for the tip! It has been a life saver on my Cayman. Worked the magic in under 2 minutes after the service centre and dealership said I need to book in, get it checked and possibly needed a replacement etc. Thank you so much again for saving me from this frustration :)
it’s great to here stories like this. i’m so happy it’s helped so many people! that was the purpose of creating a sharing this video! thank you for commenting and sharing your story! now, go out and drive the piss out of that Cayman!🤟🏻🔥
Thank you! The horn sounded when I removed the key after holding the button down for 30 seconds in the ON position. So happy to have my remote function :)
Definitely couldn’t hurt to try! There are some other results and methods in the comments too. For example, some comments said they didn’t hear the horn honk, but still worked! Good luck! 🤘🏻
Hi, I recently bought my first car and it is a Porsche Boxter 986 (2002). I did a huge amount of work with my own hands, restored all the plastic in the interior, cleaned the radiators, repaired the cooling system and much more... but unfortunately, after replacing the battery in the car and after replacing the battery in the electronic key, the car stopped responding to the electronic key.( (the light comes on when pressed and the battery has already been replaced twice, perhaps you know how to make the car see the electronic key again?
so cool to hear you are restoring your beautiful car. it might be a different sequence for the 986’s when it comes to reprogramming the key FOB. you might have already fixed or tried every sequence you can think of. beyond that, i’m sorry i’m not much help. you might just have to take it down to the dealership. good luck with the restoration!
I recently bought a used Cayman. Came with two keys, but one has all the electronics missing. So... if I bought any old Cayman key and moved the electronics to the one I have, could this procedure program the car to the new key?
that’s a great question that i unfortunately cannot answer. it’s stands to reason that it would work, but i don’t know how the coding works from the key fob to the car. might be worth calling the parts department of your local Porsche dealership and asking if all you need is a key. good luck!
Hi, I have an issue as my key works fine and opens all doors and front trunk but does not open the rear truck. All the buttons work in the car to open them, just not the rear trunk. Can you give me any advice or have you come across this before? Thanks mark
I haven’t come across this issue. Possibly the button on the remote is not contacting with the circuit board inside the key fob. Maybe there is a fuse in the fuse box of the car that is directly connected to the hatch via the key fob that is burned out. But, chances are if you are able to operate the functions inside the vehicle (manually, so to speak), i’d venture to guess the key fob is the issue. Do you have just one key fob or two? If you have the second one, check and see if that works. If that doesn’t work, then it might be the hatch relay not working properly. Hope this helps. 🤷🏼♂️
Thank you very much for sharing! This process worked (well enough) on my 986 Boxster so the key unlocks the door and starts the ignition. The remote buttons still do not open doors or front and rear compartments, but I now have a useful spare key. Will appreciate any tips on programming in a different manner to activate those other functions.
hi great tip , any views/ideas on non working intermittent radio with Bose on a 987/2/3.4s I really tried everything but im convinced its the alarm or fob !!!!!!!!!! tvm
paul wills I haven’t ran into that issue before. I hope I never do! Lol. I don’t know much about the radio in the Porsche’s. All I can think of off the top of my head is there might be a reset button somewhere for the radio. But, I have a feeling your issue might be best resolved at a Porsche shop. 😔 Thank you for the comment! 🤘🏻🔥
Brilliant! I'd been fighting with my local dealer. They kept telling me there was something wrong with the Fob (it worked fine when it went IN for the service, but not when it came out). Thanks for doing this!
I have a question I hope you'll know the answer to. I've tried this trick with my key with both old and new batteries with no luck. Any idea if this will also work with an all new electronic part if I buy the $210 one from suncoast?
@@bloodystinktube321 Sorry about the late reply. i’m not sure it it’ll work on a new one, but i can’t imagine why it wouldn’t, since it’s all pretty much the same.
Hi, I just bought a 2009 C4S, came with 1 aftermarket key(no buttons on it-just plane key with a chip in it) it opens the door and start the car,but I want to get the original with the 3 buttons key fob. If I order a new one from the dealer-can I program it to the car this way? (I have a spare key blade to put in the new fob)
Great question! I haven’t needed to buy a new key FOB, so I haven’t tested to see if you could just follow these steps. I don’t think these key FOB’s are chipped to the ignition, so i can’t see why it wouldn’t work. But, I’d still ask at the dealership. Thank you! 🤟🏻🔥
OMG thank you, I been searching for this fix for my 997 for over a year now and it finally works! although mine didnt beep to confirm but my key fob blinked like 5 times and it worked. Thanks so much.
