Outstanding video. Not a lot of show business, just acutely described process and a huge help for anyone changing our their fuel supply system. It couldn’t have been done better. Keep up the good work

Super video, as most don't address bleeding the system or checking for leaks. I admire your knowledge to of variations in systems, such as feul pumps--love your capacity for multiple perspectives. I learned a lot! Thank you!

Very helpful video. I have a Catalina 34 with the same engine and I've always wondered how to do this myself. Thanks!!

Hello, I noticed that your first filter (off engine) was a 2 micron. According to Nigel Calder, author of Marine Diesel Engines, your primary filter should be 30 microns, secondary (if you have one) 10 microns, and on engine filter 2 microns. That way your first filter captures the larger particles and your last filter the small ones. The challenge with your set up is that your primary filter will get clogged too quickly (and starve your engine of fuel) because it is only 2 microns.

I need to do mine, had no idea how...and now I do. Thanks so much! Very helpful. BTW, this old fart appreciates getting help from a vibrant and capable young woman.

Oh, by the way, when you bleed the air from the secondary filter, how do you know there is no air in the line from the primary filter? Do you have to keep pumping fuel until that air pocket would make it that far?
@LandandSeawithKee
@LandandSeawithKee 2 года назад
@@jerrymerz2940 the fuel to fill the secondary will be coming from primary so if you no longer have air bubbles escaping you should be okay. If it doesn’t start try cracking vent again and make sure you get a steady flow of fuel coming out. The air will rise up as it wants to escape. If your having issues getting it to start check the o-rings on your fuel filter. I’ve had a racor drain plug oring that wasn’t seated right suck air in before and stall the engine.
@jerrymerz2940

@@LandandSeawithKee so, I assume you don't put fuel in the secondary filter for that purpose?

Very helpful. I have a Catalina 30 as well, same engine same everything. How often would you change your filters? I'm in Ontario, so we are seasonal, but I probably put on a 100hrs or so per summer. Thoughts?

Awesome video. Did you find any issues using the FRAM filter? I have the same engine and plan on using that same filter. Thoughts?

Fram filters have a bad reputation. Suggest a different brand.

excellent video on fuel pump change. Question, when you run your engine on the hard where are you attaching your supply hose ? I attached mine to the strainer intake fitting was told do not run it straight to the block. Your thoughts and again great videos keep up the good work!

Thanks John! I put a hose in a big bucket and then take the intake hose and strainer off the thru hull and put it in the bucket. Some times this gets messy you have to get the flow right or just let it spill over into the bilge and clean up afterwards. Those plunger style cup muffs work well too. You attach them to the thru-hull on the outside with a hose connected. I usually use a block of wood when I use those to hold it up.
