I have a 70s era BCS with the ACME AL 215 engine and suspect that the coil needs replacement. This is an excellent video show the steps and tricks needed to make the repair. Thanks very much for posting!
Thank you! I just picked up a acme 330 (BCS 725) and learned a lot from this video. I think my timing is off due to the pull cord pulling back. I'll check to see if the flywheel is properly aligned. Several people told me when I got the BCS that earth tools was the place to learn...glad to have stumbled across this video.
I ordered a new coil and still no spark. Nothing. Any idea? I disconnected the prim coil and also no spark. I can not find any resistance for the prim coil , also not on the new one. The secondary is 4,5 kohm. I'm out of options. Only thing I can imangine is that the new coil is also bad.
(ACME AL330) What do i have to do when i sometimes have an explosion? Can i adjust the points or do i have to place the ignition coil a tiny bit further?

...When the engine is not producing spark. In the case that spark fails, of course the first thing you want to do is check the points to make sure they are clean & gapped properly (.018" max. gap), and then replace the spark plug, which is the cheapest part. If that doesn't do it, then the points & condenser can be changed...if THAT doesn't do it, then you replace the coil (the most expensive part). The plug wires rarely go bad on these engines, being that they are a metallic-core wire...essentially, if the wire looks good and has no "burned" looking spots on it, it is probably good.
