Changing Leicester - The story of how Leicester's past has been revealed 

Born in '55 I left Leicester in '80 and the UK in '83. By far the biggest and best change I saw was the late '70s removal of the coal-age patina. The entire city was coated with a dark, slate-grey soot that was especially depressing on murky days. Now all that Victorian brick and stonework has been revealed Leicester has been transformed back into the beautiful city originally intended :)

Bicycled over and under Belgrave flyover so many times to and from school....fond memories of my home town.

The changes we've had in Leicester over the years, I even compare my childhood years to today and the short lived things in between (Such as the 1st Haymarket Bus Station 1995-2016, remembering the row of shops that sat there before) BTW 31:11 This picture is mirrored?

Leicester was a great city when I was a child now it looks like a 3rd world city

Granby Street and Charles St, Haymarket, absolutely unsafe, and poverty stricken, no one goes into town from Oadby n Wigston area, the beggars and druggies are everywhere, I was approached 4 times in 5 mins the other day, such a shame, so provincial now, was so such a friendly place, I hate the town, no one dare say a word , but it has lost everything it ever had, I used to love the place.

Didn't like new bypass near knighten Park near Shanklin drive🙄terraced houses are a nightmare to live in.wish you would tell about history heritage in schools not just breif visits. This would be interesting. Leicestershire countryside is unique and very beautiful. in schools and the links connections. Never told any history or where to source it when I was at school. Or education otherwise. Education otherwise very good alternative form of education.terraced housing awfull to. Live in.high rise flats too. Too much noise or sound transmission.council estates awfull.Oxford needs same. Going into town everyday is useful for gathering intelligenceregarding that.who is Wigston. And did any one do timelapsed film like a friend from church, of building of new flats. Where are old ancient maps. Maps of Old times etc. The Romans were cruel. Preferfreerunning tracks but not with big stones. Tried growing walnut trees. Leeds is totally different it's like space age city.i hope my grandmother's house stays it's hundreds years old 3 stories was milinners shop she worked in since she was 14.but its in Germany. I saw pictures of before and after. Romans were cruel.Nottinghamshire was also highlighted. Sat navs are awful much prefer old fashioned maps. Can get them in libraries now.i call them cakes those car parks they look like layered cakes.
