Today I am going to talk a bit about my new major at WGU as well as why I am switching and what that all intel. Enjoy! www.wgu.edu/content/dam/weste...
Thanks for the vid. I am glad that I changed to this degree before I started st WGU. I like the versatility of this degree. I learned of this from my advisor who sent it to me via email.
Nice video, not sure if you're aware that you can teacher at a independent schools (private and some charter school) with a Educational Studies Degree, but you do need a licenses to work at Public schools
I’m thinking about doing the same thing. I just want to major in elementary education without worrying about where and when I would get placed at student teaching.
Do you know if WGU still offers the classes that replace student teaching and preclinical? I’ve heard they are taking them away and that some states won’t accept a degree with less then 120 credit hours (cus).
I am starting the non licensure BAES elementary education degree in October with goals of completion in one term so that I can switch into an alternative certification for the 23-24 school year! Thank you for your videos and inspiration!
@@fgjfty This is the route that I am taking in Texas. I am getting my bachelors in educational studies for secondary biological sciences. As far as Texas is concerned you do not have to do any student teaching for alternative certification, you just have to take a few online courses and pass your content exam, then you get an intern teacher certificate for your first year making full salary teaching your own class. After the first year you gain full licensure.
@@matthewcramer2732 Hi! I just came across your comment. I am two steps away from being enrolled in WGU elementary education in TX and already have a job at school as an aid. I don’t have time to student teach etc. Just wondering how going the route you did worked for you? Were you able to get your license in TX? What tests did you have to take? TYIA
Thank you for the information. I'm looking into Bible college in the focus of music as well but I think I'm gonna do DT path.. I've been contemplating BAES or DT BUT am unable to find good information in my area on it. I'm in San Diego Ca
I think due to the high demand for teachers they may have relaxed their attitude about the non licensure program . Since I live in Florida and there is an alternate pathway to getting a licensure. That not only let you get your Professional certificate but you get paid while you finish your training
Yes can you elaborate a bit? I took all my subject area exams and I'm applying to schools now and then applying for a temporary certifications while I take the General Knowledge exam and the Professional Education Exam. I'm not sure if I need to enroll in a program to receive my license. I was looking into WGU Master's of Art in Teaching but no one could give me a solid answer as to whether or not I would have to student teach if I'm already going to be a teacher in my district.
Do you still have to do your preclinicals? It states you do in the link you provided, but I’m also switching and my mentor never mentioned having to do them?
That’s only if you are wanting to get certified in your state. I’m not going for certification at the moment so no! I will whenever I go back to school for my masters though!
Yes I was looking for this video. Thanksssss. So is educational studies a legit degree as it isn’t 120 credits? I am in a different place as I have a phd and masters in education but I never finished my bachelors. I am trying to finish up my bachelors,
I'm pretty sure wgu is analysing the success rate of their degrees as far as jobs, employers recommendations, roi, n more. If they frown on a degree or consider canceling, I'll be careful before putting the time n effort into it. One thing I like about this school is that they like degrees that are in high demand and I have seen them cancel some over the years that wasn't, which is good for the students.
Hey who is your mentor? I would love to switch my degree plan but my mentor just told me to take time off. However I’m like you I still need a degree lol
