Excellent video. Always nice to hear and see the Coldstream Band. My dad was the base drummer in the Governor General’s Foot Guards (Canada) for over 20 years and I was a Sargent in the Regiment. Love the buttons two by two. Up the guards.

Lovely to see Senior Drum Major Irish Guards leading. The music is so good to hear from the Coldstream Guards and I do enjoy the foot guards (on this occasion the Scots Guards) marching along, thank you.😊(and to complete, on the return,Grenadier old guard and I think a Welsh Guard musician and a Welsh Guard Officer

Hello Hazel! The New Guard is the Welsh Guards, the Old Guard is the Welsh Guards & the Duty Officers & NCO's are Also the Welsh Guards today, They've Scored the Trifecta, Lol. We've gotten used to the Drum Majors & Welsh Bands having the Larger White with Green Stripe Plumes. The Guardsmen's Plumes are Narrower & tightly Bound, like the Grenadiers thin White one & they can be a bit hard to see when they're Marching, but you can see the Plumes when they go through the Gate into the Castle, as they show their left Side to the Camera. Well spotted on the Welsh Guard, he's playing the Alto Saxophone behind the Cymbals. The Old Guard as they Swing on to High St on the way back are wearing the Guardsmen's Welsh Plume, so you can see what they're like. All that was needed was the Welsh Band & Drum Major & the Red Dragon Flag would fly over Windsor! Hahaha

Thank you for that Vicky, What a blunder, I’ve looked at the video again and now can see what I couldn’t see before,🫣🧐literally!! I can now see their plumes as the guard turn into the gate of the castle. If it had been summer I might have been more able to identify the regiment by the button formation . I find that the first thing I do when I see a picture/video of guardsmen is automatically count the buttons,,😂😂. My dad was an Irish Guard a long time ago.

@@hazel1605 Hello Hazel! You are more than Welcome. It can be really awkward in Winter when they have their Greatcoats on. The Bands are fairly easy to Spot as many of them have the larger Feather Plume. The Guardsmen though have that thinner Horse Hair Plume & that can be difficult to see, even from front on. Depends a lot on who's filming them too, AFV is Good, because he always gets them going through the Henry Vlll Gate & their left side View. Buttons are very Good, they've helped me many times work it all out. Awww Bless your Dad, My favourite Guards Band is the Irish Guards, they're Great. Enjoy your Week Hazel, looks like it's warming up over there!

Welcome Back to My Favourite DM, SDM Gareth Chambers MVO. He certainly looks pleased to be back & leading The Coldstream Band up to the Castle & the New Guard Mounted by The Welsh Guards. I even detect a hint of the "Mick Swagger" as he comes up to tee Roundabout! The Coldstream Guards Band are doing a Good Job & a Great March List, including a couple of my Favourites. I think I've got the Saxophones right, 2 x Alto in the Rank behind the Cymbal & a Tenor in the Rank behind them. A nice Sound from them passing the Bus Stop on the High St. SDM Chamber's Effortless Elegance as they Swing into Castle St looks Brilliant & that People is How we do that!. Those 2 Bass Trombones are Certainly letting us know they are there as The Band exits the Henry Vlll Gate on their way back to VB,to the Red Shield, I believe I've only heard that once before & I'm quite taken with it & another great Bass Trombone bit at 7:04 Sounds Great too. Nice to be back to Normal, with the Old Guard, the Welsh Guards, were Welcomed Back to Barracks with The Rising of the Lark, their Regimental Quick March. I still think that's a Great Tradition, the Old Guard being Welcomed Back to Barracks. Another Great Video Mr AFV, I love that close up Action on the High St, you feel like you're in the Band Yourself. Looked like a Dull & Chilly day in Windsor, those couple of Bright Sunny days last week must've just been teasing. Thanks for a Brilliant Video as per Normal, it's very Much Appreciated. By the way, if anyone doesn't know yet, The Drum Sargent who was leading the Band of the Grenadier Guards earlier in the week is L Sargent Chusa Siwale of The Welsh Guards, 1 of 2 Drum Sargents in Training to become Drum Majors. I've been told we'll be seeing them quite a bit in the near Future. DS Siwale is very Good & I don't think it will be too long before he gets the Coveted Baldric.

Excellent video, AFV! Thanks. As others have said, it's great that you got so much of the march "The Red Shield", and as for the "catch" at 07:00 what more can I say. I've always really liked "Scarlet and Gold" as well ever since I first heard it at Windsor in March 2023, the way the beginning of it sounds so dramatic and almost sinister (helped of course by the "arch") and then it quickly becomes almost playful-sounding for a while before another serious bit at 02:28 .

Thank you so much for this excellent video, almost live as it was shot to-day. I'm amazed by the quality of your pictures, very stable and shot so close that one would believe he is among the marching musicians. Also very nice sound quality that pleases my ears. The Guards are all excellent performers, they are able to play everything. This walk from Coldstream Guards Barracks to Windsor Castle and back was just a fine and great pleasure. A special attention to the drum major: has anyone already tried to walk like him, with arms swinging at a different rhythm? It's very hard to de-synchronise ones movements....
@charlottecunningham2141

He’s my favorite SDM😊I can keep up with his foot movements and sometimes when he switches the mace from one hand to the other or stops to salute, but I can’t get the flair correct whatever it’s called😂 I also like to pretend that I’m an escort when they break out of formation and step in place then rejoin their comrades

Nice video was just wondering the symbols player has the crown on his sleeve as does the conductor I would like know what this is for please and then sometimes I just see the odd player in the band having a large sword attached ,why would this be. Just interested as the guys/ladies put a lot of effort in to the uniform not to mention playing the instruments which is very hard ,but they make it look so easy, the sound is just something else I could play this sort of stuff all day tbh
@vickyRoyalHistory
@vickyRoyalHistory 7 месяцев назад
Hello Flyboy!, The Crown above The 3 Chevrons on the Right Sleeve, mean that the Wearer is a Colour Sargent, they also wear a Red Sash from the Shoulder, Diagonally to the side. The Colour Sargent as a Rank, was created in the early 19th Century & was awarded to Sargents who had distinguished themselves with Bravery & Protected the "Colours" of a Regiment. These Days, it's a Non-Commissioned (NCO) Rank above Sargent & below Warrant Officer. The Colour Sargent may also Act as the CQMS - The Company Quarter Master Sargent - In the Infantry Regiments of The British Army. They also can be in Charge of & responsible for, the Colour Party who Protect the Regiments Colour when Paraded. Even if it's not Paraded an Officer with Drawn Sword will March where the Colour Bearer would Normally be, Protected by the Escort, commanded by a Colour Sargent. The Crown Alone on the Right Sleeve designates A Major. The Crown will also appear above Insignia of Some Commissioned Officer Ranks. Warrant Officers & Officers wear a Sword on their Left Sides. In the Guards Regiments, they also have a Regiment Plume on their Bearskins, which is larger than those worn by the Guardsmen Ranks. Unless they are in one of the Bands or are The Regiments Director of Music, Officers Carry the Sword in their Right Hand in Salute. The Director of Music will either March in the Ranks of the Band, filling in a place left by a missing Bandsman or at the Back of the Band. They March with empty Hands or Carrying their Baton, in step with the rest. Occasionally, we see the DOM Conducting the Band while they wait for the Old Guards to form up. The Drum Major is a Good Example of a NCO, they have 4 Chevrons on their Right Sleeve, with the Crown above. They wear a Sword on their Left Side & have a Larger Plume of their Regiment on their Bearskin. Hope this helps to answer your Question. Have a great Week!.😊

@vickyRoyalHistory
@vickyRoyalHistory 6 месяцев назад
Hello GGibert. The Button Groupings only apply to the Scarlet Tunics. These Athol Grey Great Coats just have Normal Button Groupings. The only Difference in these Great Coats is for The Officer Ranks. They have a Double Row of Buttons like on a Double Breasted Suit Jacket & they are far more Tailored. The Entire British Army have these Greatcoats & it makes Identifying their Regiment a little more Difficult. The easiest way is by looking at the Plume on their Bearskins. The Bandsmen wear the same sized Plumes as the NCOs, so they're easier to Spot but it depends which side the RU-vidrs are filming on. I've listed the Regiments & the Identifying Differences but that's based on the Red Tunics which has everything on it. The Regiments are listed in order of Seniority: *GRENADIER* Thin White Plume on the LEFT side of Bearskin. Buttons in Single Spacing. Collar Badge: a Grenade. Shoulder Badge:Royal Cipher. Regimental March: Q British Grenadier S Scipio *COLDSTREAM* Red Plume on the RIGHT side of the Bearskin. Larger for Bandsman.Thin Red Plume for Guardsmen. Buttons in Groups of 2. Collar Badge: Garter Star, Shoulder Badge:A Rose. Regimental March: Q Milanollo S Figaro *SCOTS* No Plume on the Bearskin. Buttons in Groups of 3. Collar Badge: Thistle. Shoulder Badge: Thistle Star. Regimental March: Q Hielan' Laddie S Garb of old Gaul *Irish* Blue Plume on the RIGHT Side of the Bearskin. Larger for Bandsmen, Thin Blue Plume for Guardsmen. Buttons in Groups of 4. Collar Badge: Shamrock. Shoulder Badge: St Patrick's Star. Regimental March: Q St Patrick's Day S Let Erin Remember *WELSH* White with a Horizontal Green Stripe on the LEFT Side of the Bearskin. Special Dispensation for Bandsmen to Wear Officers Plume. Guardsmen have a Thinner Plume. Buttons in Groups of 5. Collar Badge & Shoulder Badge: Leek. Regimental March: Q Rising of The Lark S Men of Harlech Hope this Helps, Have a great Week
