The safety wire is definitely backwards. If you ever need to verify, try to loosen the filter and see if it is trying to stretch the safety wire. If so, you’re right. If not, you’re wrong. Also, it’s a good idea to write the N-number, date and tach time on the new filter before installing it.
Yes! Both are definitely good practices to keep your maintenance work standard. I appreciate the comments from real mechanics! As I say, "I'm no mechanic" so it's great to learn from you guys here! Turns out simply doing "what the last guy did" isn't always the right answer when it comes to specified work like this!
Isn’t the safety wire for the oil filter installed on the wrong side,, the way you put it on in the video it would allow the filter to loosen for almost 3/4 of a turn before the safety wire catches it.
I hate to be smartass in the comment sections, but that safety wiring of oil filter is really wrong. They way you have done it would allow filter to get loose. It might not seem like a big deal, but it completely beats a purpose of safety wiring. Just think about it. Also, like the torque on the filter...where it feels right :))) Nice video! Thx
Thanks for watching! Yeah I see your point about the safety wiring. I guess I only put it like that since that's how it was installed before... but the guy who did it last time had the same problem! I'll find a better spot next time. Thanks for the callout!
