Have had a cpap for about ten years, began waking up in the middle of the night, can't afford to pay for another evaluation so i used this video to raise the air pressure and all is now well
This is a very good video, on the use of this machine! I can say that because I was the Lead Architect/Engineer/Technical Manager on the design of this product. It is a very good machine.
You are literally a life saver! Thank you! I have severe OSA and had given up. My machine was set at bipap 24 & 15. I reduced it to 20 & 13 to try tonight. I can tolerate my Resmed Quattro mask but the pressure was so high it would not seal with clean shave and straps so tight I had blisters on my nose. The sleep apnea cattle farm insisted on keeping the pressure on what the lab results showed. This will be the 1st night in over 4 months to try my mask again. Thank you sir.
2018 and going strong! My neurologist freaked out on me when he learned that I stopped using my machine. It gave me severe sinusitis, plus I kept taking it off in my sleep going so far as to stuff it in between my mattresses. (My usage is not monitored) He said that was no excuse, and to decrease the pressure until I could wear it all night and not have sinus infections. I twiddled the button, which is broken btw, but couldn’t figure it out. Then the love of my life, my knight in shining armor, looked for the answer on RU-vid. After three tries of watching videos that didn’t mention the ability to change the pressure, huzzah and well met, we finally tried your video. We, myself, my husband and myself, are grateful for your video. Hopefully the new settings will allow me to not fall asleep standing up, or the worst, while driving. I no longer will be limited to driving less than than 15 minutes away from home. Wish me luck!
Worked like a charm...I forgot to say Ive been on C-PAP for over 15 years and as everybody knows to get a pressure change they want you to do a sleep study and then ask YOU what pressure you "feel" like works and they set it to That Pressure ......well due to that silliness, I learned long ago to just hack my own machine and adjust accordantly! your video sure HELPED me with this........Again Thank You
Thank you. My pressure is too high to a point I wake up feeling like I can't exhale. When I get home I will write down the original settings and start reprogramming. Thanks again you are literally a life saver. Ernie
Thanks so much. I went from 10 in 1998, to 12 in 2008 to 8 in 2014. It never felt like I was "getting enough" with the new settings. Just got up from a nap with it set at 13 for possible progressiveness of my condition and I now feel like I did when I got the machine way back in 1998. REFRESHED! Thanks again!!!
Still helping people in 2022! My girlfriend’s cpap is having issues and we’re waiting on the dreamstation recall to send her a new one and I had this ol thing up in the cupboard unused because I have a newer one. Was able to set her settings to my old machine so we can wait to hear back about her dreamstation. Thank you!
Really grateful to find this video! Originally came here just to find out how to lower my pressure. Instead I got a great over all tutorial! Loved that you didn’t speak over my head or in a condescending way! I know it’s been a minute or 5 since you posted this video. I just wanted you to know you’re still helping folks out here! God bless!
Watched a few of your videos, and I really appreciate your honesty and your advice! I've been complaining to the doctor at my sleep clinic about mouth leaks for over a year, and he didn't do anything to fix it; plus, the medical supply company I bought the machine from got bought out by another company that doesn't allow you to purchase supplies online or pay automatically. I was tired of getting jerked around, so it's nice to know I can take care of some of these issues myself! Thank you!
Truly a god send you have been...they programmed me with way too much preasure and there was no getting through to anyone that I needed it lowered. Thanks for this so much!
Thank you Jason for this video. Explained exactly what I needed to know. I'm an in hospital RRT so I had noooo idea how to change the settings on the newer home cpap my father was given by a family member. His home care company is awful, so thank you for saving us time and stress!
I am not sure what prompted you to make this video but I am sure thankful you did, my cpap died and my sister gave me this model, said it was set to max and for me it was way to much pressure, I was having issues waking up gasping like I was holding my breathe under water and limbs swelling up and being numb, video recorded myself and learned I sounded like I was sucking air through a straw, went hunting the manual which led me to the basics, not the guts, that is when I typed in the model and how to change the pressure and there you were giving me a play by play, it was only set at 10 I can not imagine what 20 would be, blow out a lung I suppose, I am rockin at 7 where my other cpap was set, you may very well have saved my life, things were getting bad, 10 minutes of sleep wasn't working so hot at a time.
Hi Jason, I can't thank you enough for making and sharing this video man!! You made This video in 2012 and it is STILL helping folks like me in 2015; many thanks my friend and now I'm off to download the SleepyHead software!!!
Pro Mixing It's like an old Seinfeld episode.....still relevant after decades! I'm glad that it helped. Hope that SleepyHead is working for you as well.
Thou art a diety amongst men who are mere mortals in your presence. Ok, but seriously, I've noticed my soft pallet keeps falling back and causing me not only to snore, but apnea as well. Knowing full well my pressure needed increasing, but not having time in a while to take the machine in, this video was a godsend, for reals! Thanks SO MUCH for the info! Raised my pressure from 12.0 to 14.5 and solved my sleeping problems!!
+Raycefan NICE!!!! Glad that you fixed it on your own. Love hearing the success stories, especially the ones where the person gets to keep the money in their pocket.
THANK YOU 27! this is by far the very best video Ive ever seen, Ive lost a LOT of weight & stopped smoking so my machine was blowing me out of the bed, thanks to your video ive been able to turn it down and to Auto....will post tomorrow let ya know how it's working for me!........Again Thanks!
I have a travel cpcp and soon a new bipad at my house but a resent sleep study changed my numbers this video helped me reset my pressure. Thanks Good video. You mentioned a few things I want to check out tomorrow.
I did it! All thanks to you, I went back up to my original settings after a lower setting trial period that didn't fly. I had to do it myself for scheduling reasons. Thanx again pal!
Thank you! Thank You! Thank You!! The place I got the machine from won't change it without a order from the doctor, and I can't get in to see him for another 2-1/2 months. So this video was just what I needed. I just bumped up the pressure a couple notches and that did the trick :) Thanks again! :)
I really appreciate this video. My doctor and the medical supply company won't listen to me. I need a stronger setting and now I know how to change it my self. Thanks
daryl smith Sorry. This video will explain more. It's a free software program so you can look at your own detailed CPAP data. Here is my video of it. There is another about how to interpret in my channel. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AxQ4a94DB68.html
daryl smith Sure thing. Hopefully you get something out of it. If you have any questions or what to post screenshots if you decide to use it, I can help you interpret them. Just post to my forum: FreeCPAPAdvice.com/forum. Have a good night.
My dad is 86 and not able to do much on his own. Has slept with CPaP for years but a few years ago they decreased his pressure from 11 to 9 or so. He started having serious nocturia.. About every 2 hours or so waking up to void. He always follows the rules and this cpap belongs to him entirely. Thanks for sharing how to readjust so we can get him back to where it was set and his sleep was good.
Thanks for the helpful video, making the adjustments in the hidden menu fixed my CPAP. During the night my Philips CPAP would randomly beep multiple times and then would shut down. I assumed that it was malfunctioning and would require service. The problem was the smaller diameter of the new hose and pressure requirements for the new mask.
Thanks so much for this video. i just can't understand the secrecy around setting up your own machine. This video has been so helpful. I love seeing their faces when you say you can set up your own machine.
Thank you!! I've been frustrated using 6 for years (surprisingly didn't get instruction back in the day). Had titration last night, 16 is my number. Thanks for showing me how to change!
Absolutely. That is explained in the video. Speak with your physician first. Another typical problem is that the pressure prescription may not be correct. The respiratory therapist is usually busy not being a patient advocate when the patient goes for help, so they get left floundering and eventually quit PAP therapy. Many respiratory therapists do a poor job of educating patients. Patients do a wonderful job educating and advocating for themselves when the system fails them.
Thank you so much!! I loved my tester CPAP and when I received my CPAP the levels were so low that I was still exhausted all the time. Your help with this will be such a great benefit in my life!!! Thanks again :)
Thank you so much for this video. I have had my cPAP since 2011 and the last 3 months my hemoglobin has been elevated and the Dr’s initial thought is it is due to my sleep Apnea. I can’t afford new sleep study as we have a $3,500 deductible. I had to see a hematologist who also said he suspects it is my sleep apnea causing the elevated hemoglobin and said to check with my regular about getting it adjusted. I told him I would try but she is just a nurse practitioner and not sure that is in her scope. I am sure the medical supply company I got it from won’t adjust it without a physician order. So will take a look at my settings and as my NP what she suggests while I wait my recheck with the hematologist in 3 weeks.
I recently went from a full-face mask to an Oracle mouth mask and couldn't use it at the 9 cfm setting. With your help I changed my pressure setting to 5 cfm and it only took seconds. Thank you for your VERY helpful tutorial. Gary
Hey buddy I just wanted to say thank you so much for all your help you save me a lot of running back and forth with these idiots at the place where I go to get it adjusted 2 hour wait time sometimes more did it in 3 minutes you're great thanks again
Thanks so much for the showing us how to do this. We have been getting the run around from our sleep lab and the Dr. office is like "yea, it is easy, they can walk you thru it!"
I like the way u explained urself . My mom has on just the same . And my 5 year old moved her settings so now its so hard for her to breathe so I really hope this comes in handy for her since I know she's suffering I love her so much I don't want her to not to be able to breathe
It worked!! Had to borrow an old machine. Mine broke and the seller is being stupid and taking weeks to replace. Pressure was way too low but set to auto with higher max. Looking forward to finally getting sleep tonight!
If your machine has a ramp feature you can set that as well to start at a comfortable pressure and slowly increase pressure to your setting as you fall asleep. I found with the nasal pillows just forcing myself to get use to the pressure was the best for me.
The guy at lab changed my number and it took me a week to clue in, That I was getting depressed and was super tired very day. to late to get help from lab so thank you for showing me how to fix my level' wish me luck!
Thank you so much! I've had my machine for about a month now and wake up from terrible bloating. My sleep center is not willing to help me at all so you know what?! Screw em! :)
peggy dhermy If you're having bloating, check out my video on aerophagia. It will help you stay at your therapeutic pressure, but get rid of the bloating and gas. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AdzKaB-ixxM.html Best of luck to you.
Thank you so munch. This really helped me reset my old machine to a lower pressure when my need changed. This was and old unit that had not been used in years and was set with other settings. I did not even know it could auto like my new one to this vid. New had to go away and back to old one. You really helped and save me a trip to the tech's to set when I had all to info.
Excellent! You can always use SleepyHead to get data off of your machine to see some real data trends of how your sleep is with CPAP. I have a recent video on this. It will work with your System One. It's a free program and is extremely user friendly. The video has the links....since I can't post it here. I have the link in my forum as well.
I am among those that thanks you for this video. For years and years mine has been at 10 cm and I've known that it was not enough. Using your video, I tried 11.5 cm and just awoke from the most refreshing nap which I've always needed. The nap, that is. Will try the setting tonight and in the days to come to see if a solid night's sleep can get me through the whole day. People have no idea what a difference a cm or two can make.
Yes. The 1 cm can be to the benefit or the detriment. Good to monitor with a program like SleepyHead to make sure things are still working well. Also, it's always recommended that these things be communicated with your doctor. I'm glad that you're "knocking it out" with your sleep.
Hey Jason, THANK YOU! The folks I was dealing with were rude and acted like I was putting them out to adjust my unit! It was on max 20 just like your video and yes in the middle of the night I would wake up with air blasting out on all sides of my mask so I would roll over and hit that little ramp button and it would drop to 4 and that was not quite enough so I would make a big smile to cause a leak to make it shoot more air just until I would settle back down ... Well I know you get the point. They would not sell me a new hose or set my unit until I got a new script from my Doc so I did but by then I was pissed. Tonight I set my max to 17 ... my start up from 4 to 5... and turned on the auto shutdown so when I take my mask off I don't have to do my system of taking a big breath then shutting off the unit on exhale to it didn't turn into a tornado... Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! ZZZZZZZ
Go to SourceForge.net and download a free program called SleepyHead. You can then import the data from the SD card on the back of your System One and get a ton of detailed information so you can feel comfortable the the machine is set correctly for you. Too little pressure and you still wake from apnea, too much and you can have central apneas. Easy and free. My two favorite four letter words. (some days my 3rd and 4th favorite 4 letter words)
first off, thank you so much for explaining everything in plain english. second, Ive had this unit for about 5 years now, and i just recently got my second ever sleep study. my machine has become louder. it has never been serviced, it has never been professionally cleaned, and it has been used almost every night I've had. So this leaves me with a few questions: 1. should this be professionally cleaned? 2. should this be professionally serviced? 3. the unit has become louder, how do i get it quieter (its not that loud, just a little louder)? 4. Whats the life time of these units? 5. if I need to replace, what unit is the best unit you suggest (11 units of pressure needed)? Thank you so much in advance for all your help.
Thank you for this video! I was dropped by my original cpap provider because my insurance was no longer par with them as a provider, and my new provider won't touch my machine yet (now that I own it). The A-flex was disabled (incorrectly by the original provider) and now that you showed how to get into the controls I was able to enable A-Flex which Respironics says make exhaling more comfortable, which has been a huge challenge for me. Thanks for all your informative videos! I actually mention you in my most recent RU-vid video.
Bless you for posting this! I got a fee one that was blowing too hard! I'm going to try to adjust it. But my mask is too big and leaks so I don't know how successful it will be if I don't buy a mask that fits. I was going to do the home sleep study as soon as I get some money, but lab told me it wont tell my settings. Can't afford the study done at the lab. Thanks again!
+FRANK INGRAM You're welcome Frank. Glad that they helped out. Since we're talking informative and helpful....you GOTTA check out our forum. Tons of CPAP users with lots of experience sharing information and helping out people new to CPAP. Please stop by if you get the chance. FreeCPAPAdvice.com/Forum.
thanks for this great info...was getting way too much air; had to get a prescription; resp. therapist had to come out...what a waste of time. thanks, thanks, thanks
It might be simple to set the pressure... just press the circle knob and nearby button and HOLD both of them till you here the beep; THEN rotate to Setup and go from there. But I still find myself coming to this site because I always think I have to power cycle the machine to get there. You don't! Thank you!
LankyLefty, Thanks for your reply. Since my SD card is locked, I was not able to change/override the prescription on the card. Also, if SD card is installed, I cannot change the pressure settings on the machine. If I remove SD card, I can make changes desired to pressure settings on the machine. This created a dilemma, which I solved by installing a new SD card and initializing it. Then, because the new SD card was unlocked (and contained no prescription), I was able to change the machine pressure settings. Also, the new card like the old one will keep a record of my sleep which I can follow with the Sleepyhead software. When I return to my doctor or sleep tech, I will bring both SD cards for his/her review.
Hay Jayson, Good job you didn't know what the X-mask did. On some mask there is a number like a X-1 or X4 . If you set the system to the X1 or X4 setting the system knows how to deal with the loss of better and it will not set off the alarm. (So it knows how many holes the mask has and over all flow of air thats loss and it a just for this).
No. Sorry I'm not clear about this at all. The code I'm talking about is a reimbursement code used by DMEs. The same amount is billed whether or not you get a CPAP with no data information, or an APAP/CPAP combo that is fully data capable. The HCPC code is E0601. If it is billed under this code, then get the most advance machine you can, then you'll have the ability to change it to APAP mode if you'd like. Excellent question. I'm going to post this on my forum for others.
Thanks - recently got a machine from a relative that was set for 25cn H2O. My regular machine is set to 5cn H2O. Now I can change the inherited one. But next time try to focus your camera on the machines display instead of your fingers - thanks.
Honestly....I completely believe how unhelpful some places are. That's why I do what I do! I hope it's going we'll for you now. Question away on my forum if anything ever comes up.
AHI data and Hours used is typically all they look at for compliance. Usually just hours used. Bad data is kicked out. This would include you taking the mask off but leaving the machine on. Or putting it on your cat. Nobody can fool big brother! ;^)
I have to change my pressure, the tech says he wont show me how.My sleep doc said we will trial the machine ,but what a hassle to see him to change pressure,i think I can do it myself from watching your video...thanks
thx LL27.. GREAT VID as usual... Just bought this data capable machine PRS1pro (a blower box with a brain) and am setting it up... Love your forum but forgot UN and mostly password.. trying to figure out how to jump in and discuss.... thANK YOU for empowering the patient....
+Randy Knight If you forgot your password there is a way to retrieve it. (Do have to know your username.) If you forgot your username then I can let you know what that is based on your email address. Good luck!
Hello Jason... Forgot or did not write down both username and password... only commented a couple times several years ago... your website was really helpful in starting and staying with CPAP therapy... Thx randyknightpe@gmail.com
