I literally just did this to my filter yesterday and just completely took it apart. Rinsed everything out. I mean after 5 yrs I just rebuilt the pump replacing orings and the filter gateway housing orings. Thanks for the video!!!!

Hi. Thanks for the video. I’m Replacing/adding new sand tomorrow and it’s my first time doing it. Couple questions: Do you HAVE TO shop vac remaining old sand from the pump instead of just adding new one? And also “Why do you rinse it? Is it just to clear the internal walls of the pump? Thanks so much

Hey Rick, this is my first year with this filter I’m getting ready to close my pool up do you think I should replace the sand next season or I can wait till the following year?

I change mine every couple of seasons.

You should use the glass instead. It lasts about 3 years and makes your water much clearer.

I agree! Just try and keep that stuff off your hands/body. Nothing like having microscopic glass sand on your hands/forearms. Like tiny slivers you can’t see or just pull out with tweezers.

@@CindyL4261 my mother use to work at a major pool and spa supplier and she said the glass media lasts 5-8 years with proper backwashing and rinsing, but that seems a little far fetched to me, but she does know her stuff so... And I just upgraded my pump and filter to the Intex Krystal Clear 16" setup which is designed to be able to filter our large pool. And it holds 120lbs of Silica sand or 85lbs of glass media.

@Leah Watts we got ours from Leslie's Pool Supply. Home Depot or Lowe's may have it as well.
