I'm young..but am longing for these days. When things were relatively normal....

I caught The Immortal when the Sci Fi channel reran it years ago (in the days when they used to run the old series). Christopher George was one of those actors taken from us far too soon. I also loved him in The Rat Patrol and grabbed that show when it came out on DVD.

Hey, my old 56 year old self likes cable tv-- I suppose. It is when I watch these great peeks into our collective past that I get sentimental for good old analog TV. Kids, we had, depending what size city you lived in,; ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS and one or two "independent" stations on the UHF/VHF-- these were the stations that played the "old" shows of our childhood, like-- "Gilligan's Island, Green Acres, Bewitched, I Love Lucy, The Lucy Show and...Here's Lucy, Father Knows Best, Leave It To Beaver (and how many of you fellas almost got arthritis of the wrist because of the "Who loves short shorts?" Nair commercial? And to tune in the VHF channels, you had to finesse a DIAL to coax in the temperamental signal a lot of these little stations had...and they were the home of the Saturday night (or Friday, or both) "Creature Feature" (The inspiration for Joe Flaherty's "Count Floyd's Monster Horror Chiller Theater"... and some of these stations played all night movies on Saturdays AND, depending on who was "working the board" or whatever it was called, you might see a film nearly uncut-- the rules back then were still being shaped and it was a more swashbuckling time. Oh, and if the atmosphere was right, you could tune in channels from hundreds of miles away...SO cool! I would strain my eyes at 1am in Clearwater, FL watching a movie on a station in Fort Lauderdale . So, we basically had 5 or 6 channels and the amazing thing was, there was always something pretty decent to watch...or we just had to make the best of it, I don't know...but looking back at these clips and promos and late show themes and lead-ins...a time when the FALL ISSUE of TV GUIDE was MUST reading and the family still gathered around TOGETHER (not my family, but many other families...we had problems) to watch the end of the golden era of a cousin of Vaudeville-- The Variety Show, I guess my vote is I was there in front of a garishly glowing color TV, watching the Golden Age of the medium.

I well remember visiting my Uncle in Buffalo NY one Summer week in the early 70's on a day when he bought a new color console TV and a big new rooftop antenna. He had to be picking up nearly a dozen channels incl a couple out of Canada! LOL One thing I remember from watching is just before the News, WKBW channel 7 would say, "It's 11 o' clock, do you know where YOUR children are?" Some great memories!

I was born in the late 80s. But my favorite shows were the same as yours. My absolute favorites were Gilligan's Island and the Munsters and I love Lucy always showed reruns. I didn't have cable tv, so I could only watch a few channels like WB, Fox, UPN/channel 13, PBS, and KCET. There was other 90's shows I was able to enjoy on CW/Channel 5. CW channel 5 was the biggest station that showed friends, charmed, Xena, Hercules.

The dawn of the Age of Abundance. A time when we marveled at our own brilliance, when the pursuit of happiness was paramount. After we went to the moon, we turned our gaze inwards and sought happiness in hedonism, narcissism and self-righteousness and all along we consumed and multiplied... until we get to where we are now... the Age of Scarcity. Looking at this video, the distant irony of that is not lost.

Hi there. Love your channel. There was an animated psa that aired in the mid-70's I remember as a kid. Very short, around 15 seconds, and it had two superheroes resembling Batman & Robin? They were maybe promoting savings bonds? Anyways, haven't been able to spot it online anywhere. Would be forever grateful to see it again. 🙂

Farrah Fawcett and Angela Cartright in the same commercial? WOW! Shirley Jones was so pretty, too!! I remember seeing that particular Jerry Lewis telethon, too. Love Edie Adams. I see the PBS bumper at the end. Did you watch much UHF Fred? When I got my 13 inch B/W for my room, that was pretty much all I watched on it. VHF was almost all that was seen on Pop and Ma's TV downstairs, unless it was a sporting event (most local sports, except for NFL and MLB, was on UHF).

@opensprit
@opensprit 7 лет назад
I'm sure he was under contract, everybody in show business was. But I doubt he was unhappy about introducing the Partridge Family. It's not like he was asked to go on tour with them or anything. Cash had his own unique style but was open to many kinds of music. After all, he's a man that would go on to cover of a Nine Inch Nails song.
@vincentsartain3061
@vincentsartain3061 7 лет назад
opensprit Not only that but the lovely and winsome Shirley Jones (an Academy Award winning actress) was a likely draw for guest stars who figured it couldn't hurt their careers to appear in The Partridge Family. And it wasn't such a bad show, really; if it was silly so was almost everything else in the 1970's.
