Hey Dan! I think it will be OK to show "shorter already shown video clips" because like your other viewers we like to watch trains. I've seen several of your videos over and over. Two of my favorite things are trains and flying. You incorporate both which makes for some fascinating railroad viewing. Please continue to do as you see fit.
I used to live in Oregon and know the landscape is beautiful. You have my gratitude for allowing me to revisit many aspects of what I love best about the mountain west of the US. Your operation and production skills and good taste mean a great deal to me. I am glad that you can earn something through commercial use of your material.

I saw the "We Are Union Pacific" Video a few days ago on Instagram and knew I recognized some of the clips! I think that having the shorter videos would be great, could get in more viewers since some people steer away from long videos I think. Keep up the great work, been watching for a few years and the content is amazing!

First of all big congratulations to you, it's a huge accomplishment that UP bought your videos. This means they also find your footage high quality and well edited. To answer your question: personally I prefer the regular, longer updates but I don't have a problem with shorter "teaser" videos at all. I can totally understand that not everybody can watch a 30-40 minutes long movie at once. So if you want to make short clips from the main update I'm fine with it. Hopefully UP won't cancel the Big Boy trip and you'll be able to catch the old girl for us. Keep up the excellent job Dan, your efforts are always much appreciated.

I honestly do enjoy publishing longer videos because they always result in more views but I am hoping this will appeal to more folks who don't want to sit down for so long. Thank you for being understanding! Many folks have been understanding which has been wonderful! Seriously fingers crossed about the Big Boy! It was supposed to come to Roseville AND up by me through Eugene and to Portland in 2022 but got cancelled about a month or so before hand. That was a major disappointment...
Dan, I will watch your videos whether they are long or short. Congratulations on the acknowledgement from the railroad. I wondered if they (the railroads), knew how wonderful you present their product. You are a master artist and videographer on making railroads stunning.

That’s great news UP wanted to purchase some of your work! I watch all of your videos, so I don’t mind short “preview” videos and the full length posted later. I've only started watching your videos recently, however, I really enjoy them. I usually watch them while grabbing lunch at my desk so stopping in the middle or whatever point and then returning to it is not a big deal to me. As for the shorter ones, they might be a great reminder of something I liked from your longer ones. Regardless, I think your videography is stunning as well as your editing capabilities. Really, great work!

Haha did you notice in the UP video that they were loading/unloading a center beam that had "Douglas County" lumber on it? Talk about hitting local everything from western Oregon! Oh, and I laughed when I noticed the clip of the train running in reverse. The lady mentioned how they were always focused on safety when that clip was being played....yet the locomotive's headlights/ditch lights were off! 🤦🏼♂️🤣😂 I'm so happy for you to have that offer from UP! I know how hard it is for people to stop watching your videos once started, but I'd prefer you keep them at their current length and let folks with less time dip into them as they can, when they can. Thanks for the wonderful artistry and craftsmanship!

Your content is always enjoyed by me, yeah, sometime it can be a little long but with that said i can always pause it and restart from where it was paused. Anything you do is ok by me.
Congrats on selling your work. I'm actually surprised it's the first time. Regarding railfanning videos, I skip the short ones in favour of the epic long ones 30 minutes or more. Short ones are a waste of time. I like to get comfortable and watch them while having a meal, or when there's nothing on the idiot box. I often watch them over and over because they are a great resource for learning how to consist locos and manifest long trains. It's because of your earlier videos that I ended up buying all the UP heritage fleet in HO scale. And I've copied so many of your train formats at my local model train club. I really appreciate what you do.

Currently I'm going to title them whatever the title and then say 'Short Segment' and the end so you will know! I think the shorter options are a good idea. Length can be a bit of an obstacle sometimes for me and I wouldn't mind seeing the same content in more than one video. That Big Boy shot was epic, looking forward to more of that!

The shorter videos sound great! They'd certainly be interesting to me, and in a series it would be fun to watch one installment, then come back and watch the next. I wish UP would send 4014 our way to the PNW. Their line through the Columbia Gorge is too scenic not to see steam.

Dan, I prefer the longer videos, putting them on in the background while I'm modelling in my train room and at our club in the background. Shorter videos in You Tube on auto play tend to eventually wander to other subjects!!! But, no matter the direction, all of your content is of the highest quality. Thx

I'm not a shorter video guy, but I won't mind if you want to post them. I prefer the long videos as it's relaxing to watch your drone soar and follow the trains. I know that you spoke about the UP 4014 and seeing it, so please keep us updated on that. I really hope to be able to catch it as well, but it will depend on where it is and when it is. Are you planning on posting the schedule, since it looks like they only listed two locations on when it will be on display and I really hope to see it in action? Lastly, that is awesome that the UP bought your footage (not exclusive rights). Hopefully they come knocking again in the future for you. Keep up the great work and I look forward to more of your videos.

I prefer making the longer videos myself because they warrant more views almost every time but being able to also make shorts out of them as well will bring even more views. I don't have any plans to post updates about 4014 when they release the detailed schedule but if you go to their main website you can stay up to date with whatever the latest is they have on there.
I love your videos. Sometimes I have only a few minutes anyway! But when I have time I put your train video on the Big Screen and if I've seen it before, well, does anyone get tired of seeing a train on the Keddie Wye? Or crossing the Columbia River? Or popping out of the Carlin tunnels? I can watch and re-watch Big Boy.
Dont care for RU-vid "shorts" but your plan for shorter extractions sounds fine. Btw as I mentioned before I was in Moab last October and followed the Cane Creek branch. Managed to snag a train while hiking Corona Arch. Really enjoyed that video and the others from that area.

Congrats!! My 2 cents: I'll enjoy either. But, if the titles can somehow convey the difference in length so it is "easy/obvious" that the short ones vs full ones are of the same area/timeframe. Perhaps like "full" vs "short" or "part 1/part2/etc. (Multiple parts are ok with me.) Or "complete" vs "partial". But, you are doing the work so you do what works for you in all of this!! 👍

congratulations on the sale to UP. Regarding the length I prefer the long format myself. However I would be concerned about the posting interval between the short and long formats of the same video. Are we talking hours, days, etc.
Thank you! I enjoy posting the longer videos myself because they always get more views. There would definitely be some kind of gap between the short segmented videos and the long ones that encompass them. Ideally videos in between that are different from them all together so at least a week or two between videos that are the long and short versions. For example I will upload some short segments this weekend and then the long video with those segments included won't be for at least 3 or 4 weeks in this particular case with other videos that are different the weeks in between.
Do people not realize they don't have to watch a video all in one sitting??? I watch another channel that has 2+ hour long videos and I watch them in 30 minute chunks. Whatever you do, thanks for posting, your videos are top notch. Great to hear UP recognizes.
Well everyone's brains work differently I guess! I understand I will do the same thing and come back to a video again when I am able to which isn't much because I am mostly doing the creating! Thanks so much I am glad you think highly of my work!

I really love all of your content, but time has been a big issue for me. I will definitely appreciate the smaller bite sized videos. I feel bad because I have been subscribed to you for years now, but I don't always have the time to watch all of your fantastic videos. I have a pretty short attention span so shorter videos would be more desirable to me. I rarely make it through the long videos as is. I do love your content though so either way, keep 'em coming.

Since the whole of Indian Railways is central (federal) government owned, one has to take permission to take visuals; though this colonial era rule has been relaxed to allow "free" use only in railway stations "by using mobile phone or small digital camera in circulating areas, concourse and end platforms for non-commercial purpose --”. 😏

I must say I like the old format of no talking, nothing personal, wish you would release every long video in 2 versions one with you talking and one with the music, I do watch your videos a lot more than once and the relaxing music is best when re watching, I don't mean to criticize it's just my personal preference Love your content

Speaking from a model train enthusiast perspective, one thing I wish content creators would do when they trim long trains to mainly the engines and a few cars either side of them, is state how many cars are in the train. I mean you add elevation and milepost info but nothing about the train length. It drives me nuts when I'm trying to count the number of cars and the video cuts most them out.
Well I do apologize I've never been one to count cars, ever. The thought never even comes to mind and unless I have inside info on details about every single train then there's no way for me to know the train length either. I'm sorry to let you down.
I'd appreciate your shorter cuts as I've gotten very busy the last 6 months and find it difficult to carve out enuf time to watch your longer vids as I always did before. I started watching at 2x but really enjoy your music selections so that kinda ruins the soundtrack. Any way you go I'll keep watching some of everything due to your excellent work! Thanks
Well great then I hope this will make it easier to enjoy in short stints! I shooting for them to be no more than 10 minutes long and the first one I have planned is just over 4 minutes so it will vary somewhat. Ideally it will be the very best scenes from the lengthier videos that will be posted later so you will still see some great stuff in the segments!
