Man you totally got me. I was genuinely sad and after you revealed the koke as you were giving the tour I realized it wasn't just because I value your advice and knowledge but because you are one of the most interesting and (dare I say) genuine people I've never met. Hope you can appreciate my purposely upside down phrase there. Thank you for being you, sharing your knowledge and for not really leaving us. 👍💪
Man, I'm really glad this is a joke video! I had a story like this happen to me in real life, in a bad way. I had to literally run away from home and leave everything I had collected my whole life there. My house was very similar to yours, filled with music equipment, instruments, cameras, lights, game consoles and so on. That's why I was really touched by your video! Now I only have a guitar and a 25 key keyboard, that's all I could take with me when I left my home country, I'm afraid forever. I'm from Russia, the situation there is horrible, since 2022 this country has definitively become a fascist dictatorship. We have been protesting against the dictatorship since 2011, but did not succeed, unfortunately. Sorry for the off topic.
I think it was essential for you to go through the journey of buying gear and realize you weren't using it to discover what really lights you up and how you want to play. I love your sense of humor and candid self expression! Wishing you and your wife a smooth transition into your new place and happy new home.
Michael, the whole GAS community appreciates you man! I know I certainly do. You’ve saved me a ton of money with your suggestions- instead focusing on the music itself. Wish you and the wife a great future.
Michael, thank you for all your work. You are something like a beacon of alternative ways of thinking electronic music production in this sea of RU-vid. This consumer based music niche needs people like you. I think yours and Red Means Recording are my favorites channels today. Jeremy also cutted a lot of crap and bull sh*t in his own way.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! You got me good! I was feeling sad for you leaving the community, and then you switched it up! Kudos to you Micheal and well played! 😂👏👏👏
I almost believed it, and thank you for not deciding to leave RU-vid. Otherwise it's a really emotional video, if you don't go through a phase where you record videos on a kitchen table, in the heart of the room you live in I don't think you can really understand how difficult it can be sometimes. Thank you for sharing such an intimate moment. I wish you the best ❤
Well thank god you're not ending the channel. This is one of the most valuable gear related channels on RU-vid. And I definitely understand the "out of sight, out of mind" unused gear phenomenon. I've got an EWI, electric guitar and MPE controller that often go unused, But I've found that having them plugged in and within reach does help remind me to use them more. And I thankfully found a great multi-FX plugin that reduced my plugin acquisition syndrome and helped teach me that modifying boring sounds saves me a ton of money vs buying more plugins/gear to keep things sounding fresh. 😁 That'd actually make for a great GAS Therapy topic; How to make cheesy/bland sounds more interesting. 😉
Wow that intro was a gut punch! I was so bummed when you said you were leaving. Glad you were only joking! I really appreciate your vulnerability and sharing your GAS backstory. All the best to you and your wife in your move!
lol! you had me worrying. Good luck with the new home! and keep making those fantastic videos! Good on you for committing to clearing up the mess, might just be the spark you need (or the unweighing of crap) to get into a better creative headspace!
Just wanted to say and let you know “eff you GAS! You enlightened prick! Literally had my blood pressure going up!” Eff you! Love for both you and the Lady, live eternal in happiness! ❤❤❤❤

I love this video. The (perhaps not entirely surprising) plot twist that all along you have been a gear obsessed lunatic who never uses the mountains of gear you have acquired is a deeply refreshing one. I mean, how could you be anymore likeable?
I think every musician has to go down the rabbit hole of buying gear, either cause your not skilled enough yet and want to seem better than you are of because you think more gear will make you more creative. Then only to realize you didn’t need any of that stuff at all. And that’s what I love about this channel it tries to help people not get lost in the gear and to find free work around that let you play with all the fun stuff without having to make the mistake of buying and then realizing you never liked it in the first place. Thank you for all your hard work!
Have a gear yard sale😂😂. Love it! Gas Therapy has so much GAS!!! Thanks for your kindness and comic relief to this crazy hobby we signed up for!! Best of luck with your move!😊
I don’t know how I found that first video of yours I saw about replacing the sp404 with koala sampler… your videos helped me to save tons of money and space at home and to reconnect with the joy of making music not “the joy of buying gear”…. I’m in a very productive moment as musician and I only use an iPad, a MacBook, mini midi keyboard and some headphones. Thanks bro.
Haha I like that channel though I am going the opposite way and a place on my harddisk looks like your room, about 1300 vsts which I don't use... either way, you got me, even nearly to the point of becoming sad about your disappearance ;-) great acting !
Man you had me goin there for realz! thank you brothah for sharing your journey with us....we are soOoOoOOoOOOoOO messed up, but we are not alone, and thank you for bringing us all here...then a noticed when this vid was posted thanked youtube for the time travel..in the future you still make vids and they still really help, teach and inspire. :)
Minimalism is the chain used to restrain the raging beast of materialism, obviously! I expect that the best cure for GAS would be to visit musicians who would think that buying a $200 guitar was an almost impossible ideal. I expect that the advertising used to persuade most of us to buy gear is targeted exclusively to parts of the world with money to spare. Because it's a massive area you could easily get the impression it's the whole world but GAS really is a bubble.
I love your attitude, I follow you for how intelligent you are and for the good person you are able to be, also for this strange and little commercial content, where you make videos of how to free gas from great brands Roland, Akai, Apple, really great , to know if it really is worth getting rid of a SP404 or MPC ... a new Mac or a Daw with Plugins. I will follow you where it is needed, I'm glad you don't go.
You are a "do what I say not what I do" person, you have a lot of gear!. In my case, I am learning REAPER, because there are rumors that Cakewalk will no longer be free, and here in Argentina we pay almost the double of the value because of the taxes to the credit card purchases from foreign countries
You got me as well!!! So glad you're staying, Michael, and your warehouse is soooo relatable! 🤣 Good luck with the move and the new home, to you and to your wife! Keep up the good work!
The boxes - oh man, I saw that and thought, "Yep, I'm the same." Add in books, too - I have so many books. One of these days I'm gonna leave it all behind. (Great video.)
congrats on the move to the new diggs!!!!!! nice to see Im not the only one that lives under all my gear`s boxes!!!!! jajajaja. Anyway.... happy for you!!!
cheeky lol. I've sold off a lot of my gear, but I've also replaced some of it with controllers. As much as I love Koala and Beatmaker 3, I can't stand tapping on glass lol. I keep all my boxes, too. I feel like when I sell it, people appreciate it coming in the nice shiny box.
Fooled me as well. Lovely video still. There is something so fundamentally true and human watching and hearing you smile, chuckle and say “man….we are so messed up”.
It's well funny that you've had an entire room devoted to stuff you've told us that we don't need. Not hating, it just made me chuckle. Thanks for your videos man, great stuff, super informative. Good luck in the move
Michael, you had me there…but you don’t need a new apartment, you can get the same results with an old MacBook and GarageBand…somehow. Haha. All the best to you and your wife.
I preach to people that I’m a minimalist but I used to buy second hand vintage samplers about three times a year and ended up spending about 3000 euros for things I can do all on the computer, so I thought I needed it to get that sound but I don’t care anymore. I learnt the hard way, beat myself up about it and I sold it all. Now use logic x and some plugins when I want to mess around. It feels really good to sell it all to be honest. You should at least keep the op1 though, I kind of miss having one hardware sampler when I’m on the move, even with an iPad.
Buying gear to fit a mental layout has been my worst GAS addiction. My Children came to visit and all we needed was a guitar and a phone... Thanks for sharing!
Man, i rarely comment on youtube videos but i'm glad you are not leaving us, you barely got me and i started getting emotional, don't trick us like that no more haha. Wish you the best for you and your wife and good luck for the transition to your new home.
I had an amazing studio then i met my beautiful wife and we had a little girl. So now my studio is a macbook air m1, HD25 headphones and a novation controller rest is virtual i miss a lot of my gear but i have new loves and little time.
That's the worst case of GAS I've ever seen. You really should get rid of all that gear that you've only used a few times, years ago. I think you'll feel that it is cathartic.
If you purchase something with the intention of using it and don’t it means that it didn’t speak to you. Some would call that procrastination but I think of it as visionary. It means your searching for something else. Something better. It has been the hallmark of genius for some of our greatest minds.
that wasn't a very nice trick to play. you are one of the few people I've found on music youtube with an ounce of integrity, was very sad to think you were quitting.
I was going to suggest that you get more shelves for the new apartment, then you said you're selling things. But then again, you have GAS, so definitely get the shelves!
i'm so jaded, i've seen too many channel ending clickbait titles to fall for them anymore, i can always tell what the twist will be. i really need to go outside.
You recommend the Apogee Jam+ in your gear list, but what about a Rocksmith Real Tone cable (or something similar)? It's even cheaper than the Jam and it fits in with your theme of using a computer to get results as cheaply and efficiently as possible.
So now Michael that you continue to cure yourself in your G. A. S. you have to stop all of us suffering from “soft GAS” or V. S. A. S. (VST Software Acquisition Syndrome).
