I have the same set of pliers. They work well. I’m assuming a gen 3 chuck fix is in the works which is good since I have the gen 3. Although I’m not running TTR in my garage so I might never need to fix it! You should definitely come to this side of the state and tour channel Lock!

Good guess my friend! I’d like to let channellock know how interested the #VeryCoolGang is in having us tour!

Will these work to get a snap ring out of an a4ld transmission?
@FT4Freedom

Tip: tap the snap ring with screwdriver or chisel apply break free. Get the ring moving. Then it won't be binding when you remove the ring.
@donaldstrader7241
@donaldstrader7241 9 месяцев назад
I believe your tip, although no retaining rings I need to use it on at the moment. I have used that tip in a different way, tap the plumbing, say a valve handle that needs a new seal, with a piece of wood to break loose deposits.. Then I used PB B'laster. Then it came off.

Channellock has a special place in my hear; as I lived in Meadville, PA when was younger & my Aunt worked at the plant....so always had Channellock tools😊 Even hot to tour plant on a elementary school field trip in 5th grade. But, moved away from Meadville when was 12 & ended up in Michigan.....between Detroit (cars cars cars, lol) & Battle Creek (home of the Cereal Companies). Meadville was a great place as a kid growing up....oh the memories😉 Cool vid Vince & VCG. Happy New Year, A

This is where Vince prevails over other tool shows. I've said it before and here it is again, Vince could sell me half a roll of duct tape for 25% off. Meaning I'd gladly pay 75% of the price for 50% of product because he is that con-Vince-ing! This man is a mastermind in the art of perceptive purchasing. You don't even know you NEED a tool but you want it because he sells you not only on the product but also ideas, so in the end you don't know why you don't NEED such said product. This is simple genius, I'm not even sure he tries. Tool companies who understand this type of marketing should support VCGs efforts. It is the most raw form of consumer oriented advertising and product placement you can get. Thanks for the update guys and girls at VCG! VCG rocks the shop and the jobsite!!

After viewing your video, I'm wondering if you can get replacement tips for all the ones you break or lose. Because with my luck I would break or lose a lot of them. Right now I've been using a screwdriver and a hammer to remove or get them back on.

That looks way too bulky for internal snap rings. Knipex makes a much better unit without the bulk as the tools are forged, thus there's no need to use more steel to get the same strength. That said, these multi head tools are okay for occasional use without spending a few hundred dollars on a complete set. I have only 2 pliers from Channellock (they are kind of rare in Asia), my impression is they are well made for the price. The quality is there but the ergonomics are lacking. Great video.

@mrgrey361
@mrgrey361 3 года назад
Dude don't go by this video. This guy was using the wrong size tips for that snap ring. There are 3 sizes of tips that come with it, the black tips are for very small rings like 5/16, the silver are for mid sized like 1/2 or 9/16, and the copper tips are for bigger rings like 1 inch. I use this tool almost daily in an industrial setting and the tips hold up fine if you use the right size.
@yotamaticexperience7806
@yotamaticexperience7806 5 лет назад
Those look alot more robust than the Irwin ones that I use. The ones I have, instead of just swapping the tips, you swap out the entire top end for an angled one..... It's stupid and makes the design quite flimsy. I've never had to use it on larger snap rings, and I wouldn't trust them to hold up to any real pressure. I'll be picking up these Channel Locks and I'll see if I can unload the Irwin on some sucker.....
@dustincousins

I have this tool, and wish I had went a different route. The tips end up rotating in and then are useless as they slip out or the ring connection. Don't yet have a better brand to suggest, but would recommend something different.

Would anyone know if there is such a tool that has the same internal/ external function but as a needle nose plier? With a grip on the internal/ external surface? I can't for the life of me find anything or I'm not searching for the correct terms.
@maingun07
@maingun07 4 года назад
Have you tried searching for lock ring pliers?
@heathslaughter6141
@heathslaughter6141 4 года назад
maingun07 I have. What I’m needing will need to have some sort of grip on the outside surface to grip outwards. The lock ring pliers have the point, but not the grip. They also aren’t tapered down like needle nose pliers either. The closest thing I’ve found are “ring opening pliers” but they are very small and have a short nose.

@heathslaughter6141
@heathslaughter6141 4 года назад
@@maingun07 Very close! But looking for something with a more pointed tip. Look on Amazon for "HTS 186P7" This has the premise of what I need but I'd prefer it had grip of the Knipex tool from your example. The rounded grooves of the HTS tool are OK but probably not ideal.

I get tired of my tips always breaking off when I had sex like that with replaceable tips so now I have several different sets snap ring pliers that are not replaceable tips instead they are all forged Steel my Straight ones Blackhawk and Proto professional and for 90 degree I have a set of Imperial and I have a set of knipex. And somewhere around here I've seen I still have floating around Pier from Harbor Freight that are reversible with hardened steel non-replaceable tips.

Mine broke after 3yrs occasional use being retired now. The toggle inside breaks on these & the welds break on the ratchet gear in their larger model. Channel lock wont warranty either problem, consider it wear? Their junk metal toggle broke making it useless, wear? BS warranty! Old Lang/Napa push button design lasted over a decade easy even with hard use. The switch is clearly a downgrade on its reliability no doubt about it. Fair warning, buy a backup if you own these!
