They aren’t mutually exclusive. The EU can support Ukraine *without* undercutting EU farmers with Ukrainian goods. Simply a shortsighted trade policy that the parliament must rectify.
@@CoryMueller You are missing the point. The ideology being challenged here is nothing to do with Ukraine, it's the crazy race to net zero which could destroy farming in the EU.
@@DarrellBeckford You're right - I guess it's just a knee-jerk reaction for me because I live around some Putin sympathizers (I'm an Albertan). Hopefully Brussels doesn't plug its ears like Ottawa has recently.
In Canada it's less corporations owning farms and more bigger farmers buying out all the small guys. Seeing as how having 3500 seed able acres is barely sustainable at today's input costs to make farming full time even possible. Loaded grain at plenty of 100+ year old farms selling out to the big guys because the kids don't want to work, more lands to expensive and profitability isn't there with the current land holdings.
The only right these people are protesting for in their multi million dollar tractors are stealing your money to grow corn and alfalfa for Saudi Arabia
Farmers are probably the most important people on earth. We need to help and protect these hard working people. These are our real heroes not basketball players who make millions chasing a ball.
Ha Ha Ha too funny, but hey, a better contrast are Worst Evil Fraternity members whom big bosses take orders from, not the innocent sports people chasing balls left and right, and up and down. I hardly ever watch ball games; too boring for me.
They are! If we didn't start farming, we would still be nomads, being hunted by beasts. Farming is the sole reason we got together. To trade crops with each others. Then when certain communities grew they needed to store excess grains, etc... That lead to policing and armies, walled cities, eventually writing and the rest...
I totally agree. We have to support our farmers and ban those politicians who do nothing to help them, make fake promises and don't care for the needs of peasants who feed them.

Not true, the majority of EU food production is for export, not self sufficency. The EU would be fine with half or one third of the current food production and still have enough food.

Trying to hose down farmers who work in messy conditions. Amazing how quickly politicians forgot there was almost a food shortage recently. Guess all that matters is the global agenda.
Without farmers we die of hunger, all of us !! Today kids think food grows on shelves in stores ?? Where do people think meat comes, cheese, milk, fruits ?? Kids in school should be taken at the farms to REALIZE where food comes from !! I was raised at a farm, I was working in 40*C in summer and in -20*C in winter to keep the food growing and animals fed. City boys have no idea, they are "depressed", apparently.
The global agenda is for starvation and crisis. Wef they literally say we are going to create an angrier world and cant see this is what thaey mean its on purpose. Now those big protest groups can all come down with a cough and your operations complete and you all will still be saying whats happening as you choke to death the obliviousness kills me not the evil being perpetuated but the way individuals play right into the hand its sickening
Yup, I'm all for a more sustainable and healthy transition, but you can't just say "don't use this, or leave this land empty" and offer little to no support. Changing the way we grow food is going to be COSTLY but it is a necessary expense and every farmer needs help to do it
Transition? What transition? Food grow on ground. Give water and nutrient to ground. Pick food when ripe. Trade food for valuables. Continue process. Progress human beyond survival. 🧠🧐
True, but don't get fooled, co2 is the gas of life, it is NOT pollution! Actually co2 does much more good than harm. It makes plants grow, and it makes them more resilient to drought. Much more people die from cold than from heat. The co2 level was much higher in the past, and life was doing great then. Why do you think they tell us that the gas of life is pollution????? Everything the climate scare mongers has predicted since the sixties turned out to be wrong, they keep crying "wolf" and people keep believing them.

You say that climate is the number 1 priorirty, I agree with you. 100% it is, so why are you denying farmers the compensation needed to adhere to those new standards. Why don't you cap the profits of corporations supplying farm equipment if climate is a higher priority than profits? 1 out of 5 euros in the EU budget is spend on farmers. Agricultural subsidies in the EU are literally the biggest spending area it has. Contrary to the news anchor, I did not see "ANGRY" farmers, I saw farmers who are fed up, who have reached their limit with all the rules and regulations that Brussels is pressuring them with.
If they were angry police wouldn't be standing there. Machines they brought can tow a tank, I don't think a light weight water cannon vehicle would do much if they were angry.
Crazy rules like needing to earn your own money and not getting paid 3% extra for free on every single bit of profit, or not having to pay inheritance tax when your 30million dollar farm switches hands Truly the most oppressed class of people, so oppressed actually that they make up 25% of the entire EU budget every year Poor souls
Sounds like the Belgian Prime Minister refuses to accept the fact that EU politics are a total disaster in a long run. And to start with, why accepting stuff from Ukraine, although their request to be part of the union has not been awarded yet?
because the leadership of the EU is actually a US mercenary, and the "Ukrainian" grain actually belongs to the multi-companies that bought up the lands there
Without the EU exporting to other european Nations would become a regulatory nightmare, because every country would have their own set of regulations. For example on what is and isn't allowed in food products, adherance to these regulations would have to be checked by every country individually. This would cause huge delays in shipping due to border controls, which is a huge problem for perishable goods. We have already seen a situation like this with brexit, when the british fishing economy tanked because the fishers couldn't sell their fish across Europe.
I moved from Canada to Belgium. We went on business trip this week and have to return, because of the tractors blockades. Available land was purchased by corporations and average income of Belgium farmer is 950 EU per month with twelve hours per day, seven days a week. They shouldn't only block those idiots house. It has to be burned, like it was done once in Montreal, for better life of all of us in Europe. Those neo-commies wants every house to be energy A rated and all cars be electrical in couple decades from now. But nobody here could really afford it.
The strangulation by bureaucracy is squeezing the life out of European economic activity. It infects everything from agriculture to personal lives like buying or owning property, or even just getting a driving licence. Environment or safety are usually the pretexts used for exerting control. 110% support for these farmers. Enough.
Just listen to that Belgian prime minister.. "the climate transition is a key priority".... is it? just who voted for it? What mandate does the Belgian government have, or the EU hierarcy for that matter, to follow ruinous policies that have never been voted on by the general public. "new standards" that have been introduced without due process on the say-so of some bought-and-paid-for quango. Absolute mockery of democracy, absoluter piss take on a galactic scale.

Grew up ranching in Texas. The ordinary people who work the agriculture sector, and feed everybody else in these countries, are some of the most overlooked by them. Most are in debt, living year to year on razor thin margins. Yet governments gleefully give away billions to fund foreign wars instead of helping their own citizens that feed them.

You’re right, there’s a big difference. EU farmers are protesting taxation and increased government sanctioned operating costs and regulations that make it more difficult to run their businesses. The Canadian protestors were a small handful of out-of-work truck drivers attempting to step on the rights of other Canadians who, btw, don’t take kindly to being stepped on by a bunch of whiners.
