i say ah-ba-dun, coz hes a bad 'un, this release dragged me back into 40k, not played 40k in about 8 years but super excited to get back in. managed to get everything ordered this morning and excited to get some word bearers on the table
Holy crap! You guys, I haven't seen one of your codex reviews in a while (cuz the curse of leaks), but after this, I will watch every one of yours going forward.
The warpsmith has like super short range....not worth the entire gunline strategy here. I believe the unit ut would be great on is the Lord Discordant. He has a hellstaller autocannon. Its okay on damage nothing terrifying but 48 inches would match all available guns' ranges, barring very few gun ranges that belong either on titans or other units. As far as characters go, the lord disco has a ton of movement and utility when equipped with this enhancement. And he's still good in melee.
Hi, you made a slight error by referring to the land raiders 'godhammer lascannon' that is in fact a filthy imperium weapon, the filthy chaos weapon you refer to is the 'soulshatter lascannon'
I like that one too after getting the Nightmare box and all the pirate stuff mentioned in the fluff of the book. Having read The Nightlords books does hurt either.
I wouldn’t personally go full cultists, but the reason I recently started a csm army (thanks to the new battle force box) is because I want to have cultists and demons and all the mad stuff alongside my heretic astartes and have a really thematic army instead of just evil space marines on their own.
Issue with him is his abilities both require him to be within range 12 of an enemy, and it is rather unlikely that he will get to use either without getting popped by a few stray rounds.
@@thecrazygamer2853 oh yes agree on that (hide in a tank?) but…. John wick shooting in combat… guns go pew pew!! (Sorry I can’t help myself I’m a big kid and don’t play tournaments or competitive stuff… just with my son… ) 😎👍
where planning to try the Cultist detachment, BUT then they removed all the weapon options for cultists making them crap. why put in a firebrand when the flamers are not there. the Traitor Guards also got their weapon options railed in, max 1 of each special weapon option but up to 3 special weapons, so also not making them specialized. and the detachment will just kill the units no need for the opponent to do it. for them to be just a bit good and not kill them self you need a character in every unit, preferably the Apostle
they straight up nerfed or side-graded half the datasheets, but they're like look guys the detachments are good. I just hope the points costs aren't too high
I was looking for the Cultists detachment. I have maybe 180 painted cultists or so. But they destroyed the cultist datasheet, so it's pointless now :( All my autogun cultists and special weapons are all invalidated.
How to pronounce Abaddon: Step 1: Remember that GW is a british company founded in Nottingham. An area where people speak with a midlands accent because Nottingham is well, in the Middle of England. Step 2: Remember that 80's era GW made Ghazgul's full name into a play-on-words/ satirical version of 'Margaret Thatcher' - the Prime Minister at the time of the company's founding (with 'mixed reviews' on her policies to say the least). Step 3: Having remembered that 80's era GW liked to have fun with their names and play around with puns, and (remembering that Abaddon's been around in codexes since the 80's) ; the next step is to realise 'Abaddon' can become a pun if you say it with a midlands accent. as in the joke: "Abaddon? Oh I don't like him very much. Nasty piece of work he is. He's a bad 'un." Sorry for having to explain 'the funny' and take the humour out of the joke by explaining it. I'm sure most of you guys already knew all about that. But it's worth explaining it to new people coming into the hobby . It's worth keeping the spirit of Rogue Trader era GW alive. Abaddon's name is one of those little things that remind you this multi-billion £ corporation used to be just a scrappy team of blokes in the middle of England having a lark and making minis by hand and then going down t' pub afterwards.
Even as a kid, when I didn’t understand the joke. I said A bad Un. But I’m Nottingham born and bred. Infact, Eastwood, where the previous HQ was. Fun tid bit. My older brother and his friends used the go diving into the bins around back to pull out fucked up metal models they’d still use.
Step 4. Refer to the correct pronunciation in the video GW published on RU-vid last year with Alex confirming it's the biblical version not the pun version. Ultimately it doesn't really matter but if you're stating facts it's better to be accurate.
@@MarkusMaximus2000 ah but that video spoils the fun 😛. You are right, it ultimately doesn't matter. The choice of which version to use really comes down to which side of GW you want to emphasise (knowingly or otherwise :). Personally I'm part of the camp that chuckles and laughs any time GW tries to move away from it's Rogue trader origins and distance itself from the sillier but more characterful parts of it's younger days. GW insisting on everyone using the new name feels like a scene from a sitcom. An 8 year old child walking up to it's parents and demanding they call the child by a new name now 'cos all the other kids at school say their old name is silly and their new name is more normal. As the parent you can't help but chuckle and smile at how ernest they are, how keen they are to grow up and be 'taken seriously'. How easily they buckled and succumbed to peer preasure, choosing to have a more 'normal' name just to fit in. You ruffle their hair and tell them it's ok, they can have whatever name they want. But you'll always call them by their original, true name. You tell them to treasure the time they spent as a goofy, lovable scamp. You remind them how important it is to remember their roots and where they came from - to not be so eager and keen to abandon parts of who you are, just because other people told you to you had to. GW might've given their official ruling and 'officially' changed his name. I'll still respect anyone who says "Abba-don" - I'll never demand and insist and whine that they should say it my way, I'll just be here, keeping the joke alive for as long as possible for the next generation of 40k Wargamers. [Edited for grammar and spelling]
I genuinely love the change to Dark Pacts. The primary reason I didn't play my Night Lords because I reeeeaaaally disliked the extra book keeping of having to assign every unit a Chaos God. Codex is looking really fun for CSM!
In Veterans of the long war a neat play of the double focus of hatred if you combine it with the generate cp when focus target is dead: choose a wounded unit as the first target which is possibly not that hard to shoot or fight off. Finish it off with Havocs, get a CP for killing it, then Abby points the important unit in front of him as the next focus of hatred target for 1cp instead of 2 (as you just earned one), and slashes it down in close combat.
The pactbound zealots detachment rule is great and the good thing is that it doesn't actually mean you forego getting off the weaker version of the dark pact due to the 'army rule'. For any other detachment its: - Dark pact leadership test first: If you fail take mortal, and take none if you pass. Gain dark pact bonus regardless of result. -The pactbound dark pact follows the structure of: - Leadership test: if pass, take no mortals and gain the 5+ boosted version of regular dark pact. - However, if failed, take the mortals, do not receive the benefit of the 5+ version BUT still gain the benefit of the regular dark pact (as dark pact still goes off on a fail.) I'm glad you guys also picked up on it too, fellaz in my gaming group were getting wrongfully estatic believing you forego the dark pact entirely on a fail. Overall though, in contrast to some of the other detachments here, pactbound seems like it'll be the least of their concerns going up against CSM.
Awesome csm codex, following right after the fantastic ork codex. Feels like power creep has finally come to 10th edition. Now all we need is this writer to do the space wolves codex lol. They even gave a pair of fantastic relic pistols to Cypher! Omg gw you have figured it out after like 6 editions….awesome job on the csm breakdown, loved the per detachment breakdown then the best units. Thanks team VT!
For the Soulforged Warpack "move through terrain" strategem, I much less like to think of it as them phasing through terrain, and much more like to think of it as a Maulerfiend busting through the wall like a Daemonic Kool-Aid man.
So my Word Bearers stay pretty much the same as the index but with some extra stuff thrown in. Iam ready to spread the word of chaos i guess, ill be putting my foot between the door on the tabeltop.
Great review! I'm inspired to try all of these detachments. There's a lot of meat on the bone here for Chaos players that have big collections for mixing and matching untis and playstyles. Love it.
Great review, as always, guys. I’m thinking Rubrics in a Renegade Raiders detachment for Assault and AP2. Might have to do some Sons of The Cyclops for my Black Legion….!
I could seriously use some help from you guys. Myself and 3 of my friends are brand new to warhammer 40k and have all picked out CP boxes of our favorite armies. I chose Dark Angels. The more i see online, the worse they seem to be. Im considering switching to chaos space marines or grey knights. However im over 400 dollars deep so far on codex, models and paints. Should i stick with my dark angels and try to have fun with my friends or is it worth it to start over?
Really surprised you guys didn't bring up vashtor getting the "anyone who shoots at me gets the hazard keyword" aura. I feel like that makes him VERY obnoxious to fight against.
Oh look - a Baron of Dice ad! Lmao. He’s actually a friend of mine who lives not even ten minutes from me and he’s an awesome guy, and his dice really are some of the best around - I’ve bought about a dozen sets from him at this point, maybe more, and they’re worth every penny.
Iron warriors have always been a faction (lorewise) that are surprisingly efficient in melee, even though they often rely on artillery. So having a detatchment that incentivises your opponent to engage you in melee and then having a lot of offensive buffs for that is pretty fitting. The durabillity at range is also very helpful for shooting platforms and if you want to you can always play soulforged for daemon engine goodness.
we did lmao, as a IW player what i just heard is "my vindicators can generally be only wounded on a 4-5+ and i can give them a FNP" and im creaming my jorts about it as we speak
It's no Dark Mechanicus or Lost and Damned codex, but this offering holds worthy. I think my only beef is with the Chaos Cult detachment, and MAYBE Dread Talons, but that's more an ongoing beef with Battleshock. I mean seriously, WHY is the detachment built on damned units not packing a reinforcements stratagem instead of something useless like Crazed Focus? Desperate Pacts also feel... too high-cost? Cultists die like the chaff they are already, no need to slap an extra D3 MW on every pact and stratagem of value. I think Chaos Cult is really the only miss IMO. At least Dread Talons is a flavorful detachment.
Did these guys just ignore Vashtorr and the Lord Discordant?! They also misread some stuff like the Soulfirge strategem. Its +1ap on ranged attacks, it is not armor of contempt for daemon engines....
They have a draconian contract with GW where they're not allowed to say anything disparaging them or their products And I presume they don't have much good to say in regards to Custodes, so they want to retain their privilege with the company
well they probably care more about making videos on hyped-up codices instead of actually reviewing them all chronologically, and they might have been trying to get ahead of the leaks? (mission failed)
Or maybe they just don't have anyone on the team with enough experience in playing Custodes to feel like they'd do a good job and provide valuable insight. Or maybe they just don't feel like spending all the hard work making it only to then have to spend days dealing with all the whiny man-babies in the comments.
It's pronounced ABBA-don, and he has his Black Legion rehearse Mama Mia so that they can drop down and break into song every engagement. As an Alpha Legion and cultist fan, both Deceptor and Cultist detachments look interesting!
Hey I have a question, if you run a Master of Possession with a Master of Execution and use soul link to copy the MoPs ability do you get plus 2 to advance and charge?
Your comments about the dreadtalon detachment make me think you should refund your members for their money. The detachment "makes battleshock "impactful" glosses over the fact that when you battleshock them in your turn, the next turn they reset back to normal. It also glosses over the fact that most armies have pretty good ld stat and that the stratagems are too situational.
We never said it was amazing or the best. But as a dread talon player if you play fixed and choose storm hostile objectives and behind enemy like you will be in a good scoring position. Also battle shock means they can’t use defensive strats or interrupt combat so it’s not bad for a combat army.
They also don't just rest In opponents turn, the detachment rule makes them do battleshock in there command phase within 12", which is where you want your units to be in this army, plus the -1 stacks with raptors minus 1. Its not game breaking but better than you think
Fellhamer Siege-Host. Please tell me you are not one of those people who links the Anti keyword with devastatting wounds. You do know that this edition the critical hit or wound keywords do nothing on their own, they only do stuf while part of a rule, thus you can't link Anti vehicle 4+ with devastating wounds to dish devastating wounds on a 4+. They are critical wounds, but in as part of then wording of different rules.
Weapons with [DEVASTATING WOUNDS] in their profile are known as Devastating Wounds weapons. Each time an attack is made with such a weapon, a Critical Wound inflicts a number of mortal wounds on the target equal to the Damage characteristic of that weapon and the attack sequence ends. Weapons with [ANTI-KEYWORD X+] in their profile are known as Anti weapons. Each time an attack is made with such a weapon against a target with the keyword after the word ‘Anti-’, an unmodified Wound roll of ‘x+’ scores a Critical Wound.
