Day 959.
Today, we report on chaotic fighting in the Donbas town of Torestsk as Russia continues its grinding offensive there, Vladimir Putin announces a surprise summit with Iran’s president Masoud Pezeshkian in a move that could further enmesh the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, and hear from Oslo about why the Norwegian government is cutting aid to Ukraine despite fears Russia may Test Nato in the Arctic.

Considering all the money Norway makes from their natural resources (I heard 330 mil. Norwegian Kroners per month) it is a pitiful amount for Ukraine to be honest. Norway isn't even given any of this money to their citizens.. I am hoping other countries will put pressure on Norway, Ukraine is really hurting and we need to push Russia back to their own borders.

apparently they make around £4b GBP per month from OIL this year. according to google anyway.

pushing Russia back is literally impossible. The only question is whether Ukraine's surrender be unconditional or conditional.

The cheapest way to stop this war is to give Ukraine the means to defend themselves NOW. Not trickle funding the war for decades.
@davidg3944

Fully agree. The final tragedy of this war may be the West's foolish refusal to give Ukraine the ability to defend not just itself, but Europe and America too.

We have been dumping 300 million *per day* in Afghanistan for over 20 years. With the "Nation Building" and pallets of cash to tribal chiefs. For whatever reasons Ukraine is not a worthy candidate for an experiment like this. Imagine the payoffs!

I agree that support of a free press is critical in maintaining the educated public that is critical to a functioning Democracy. We do have some obviously slanted "news" sources in America (Fox), but even they are better than obvious government propagandists. I'm a paying supporter of English and American newspapers, I encourage others to do the same. Also, my thanks to your Norwegian guest for helping to keep Ukraine's fight for freedom present and real for his fellow citizens. The "fatigue" that's setting in is as fatal as a bullet...

It's far from just Fox. Fox, CNN, MSNBC, OAN, New York Post, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal... All of them have very clear agenda's (or at least a few writer's on staff with very clear agenda's) and will gladly spread lies if it helps their goals, though some are more careful than others. They don't seem to hire journalists based on how good they are at journalism, but activists and professional heel's that can generate rage-bait clicks for ad revenue. They certainly aren't as bad as Russian or Chinese state media, but the scary thing is journalism as a whole seems to just keep sinking lower and lower. So if there aren't standards and ethics re-established I fear we may eventually get to that point where our media is just a government tool to be wielded against the people. My biggest hope for this fall is that most people stop paying attention to politics after the election. Go back to sports/movies/whatever and stay out of it entirely if one is not willing to do the leg-work to be well-informed. "Politics as a team sport" is a major catalyst of this degenerate journalism, so here's hoping that people are so sick of hearing about partisan politics that they just walk away from it entirely in 2025.

I live in Iceland, where we do even less per capita. Don't let us get away with that. The fact that we don't have a military isn't an excuse; we still have an economy, even if a small one.

Amid the ongoing heavy battles on the Donbass frontlines, the Russian army achieved new victories in the war-torn city of Chasov Yar. As a result of the series of offensive operations in heavy urban battles, Russian forces broke through Ukrainian defense and advanced in the Zhovtnevy (Oktyabrsky) district in Chasov Yar. As a result of heavy battles, the Armed Forces of Ukraine suffered losses and were forced to retreat west of Vatytina street. As a result, Russian foothold in the city on the southern bank of the Seversky Donets-Donbass canal enlarged. Earlier, Russian forces took the full control of the Kanal district located on the northern bank of the canal. The Ukrainian military attempts to resist in the Novy district on the eastern part of the city. The retreat of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the quarters of the Oktyabrsky district allows the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to take control of the next heights in the city. The city of Chasov Yar itself is located on the heights and control of them allows to take fire control of wide areas at long distances.

I have been up in the very north of Norway. It was midsummer so only a few spots of snow around. It was very green and beautiful. No trees as it is so far north. I remember sitting on a picnic bench overlooking a fjord. As it was so beautiful but not so warm the thought crossed my mind "This would be a great place to visit in the summer". Then I realised, it was mid-summer weekend! Driving further east along the coast it occurred to me I should turn south into Finland before I ended up in Murmansk. Despite all the friendly vibes with the new Russia I was still suspicious of what I knew had been a vile and monstrous state for hundreds of years that had cause much grief for my Czech family. Ran out of gas in the middle of know where in the Finnish forrest, but there are people living everywhere up there, made it to a gas station in a tiny village just as they were closing up for the day.
