Interesting cos I've always felt like WayV used to have a distinct sound with their title tracks until they came back with Phantom & On My Youth. They are more on aggressiveness/epicness which is especially emphasized through their dance breaks. Hope you could check out their other title tracks "Moonwalk" and "Turn Back Time", those might help you get a clearer sight on what their overall sound is!

so valid! I think my selection of songs I listened to was all over the map, so I feel like if I heard every title I would have a better idea. I think they have a distinct essence to them that makes them different than the other units! still learning more about what that is

“ I feel like this is the group of visuals” the V in WayV is Visuals 😂😂😂lol

Love Talk is one of WayV's infamous sexy b-sides 😅 There isn't a mv for it, but Nectar was another one that fans clamoured about so much they did performances of it

it is SO sexy gosh dang, but vocally and melodically it was my favourite song. so good! I was just taken aback haha

If you watch the title tracks in order WayV did have a very distinct sound up until Kick Back. That one was a bit of a departure, and right after that was the mess with Lucas so since then WayV seems to be trying to settle into something new, but there is always a persistent theme with their music of using lots of orchestral sounds

- "Regular" is WayV's debut track which is the chinese ver of the 127 one. They also have a chinese ver of 127's "Comeback" in their debut album as a b-side. - The one that you thought who looked like Taehyun is Hendery. That's like the first time I've heard anyone say that lmao - Winwin is the other deep-voice guy in Phantom - Yep Lucas was the center but so is Ten (since he's also the main dancer). - Xiaojun was the one who hit those notes btw - I recommend the WayV guide by Lao Gan Ma it's like 1 hr long (u can skip the Lucas part or not it's up to u)

he didn't look like Taehyun in any other video lol but there was something about his haircut and eyes/cheekbones in Phantom that gave me that impression lmao. thank you for the guide recommendation! excited to check out more of them!!

Yess I missed your NCT reactions! WayV are a gold mine of a unit. A little disappointed you didn't do their suggested live stages from NCT Nation, but this is perfect as well! A great lineup of songs. 4:15 lol yes that's Ten! Dance icon himself. You've seen him in "Baggy Jeans". 4:51 That's Hendery! Main rapper and visual. 5:20 Ten almost never has clothes on, you'll see that a lot with him lol 5:47 Yangyang! Main rapper and maknae (or didi I believe it is in chinese) 5:50 Winwin! Red hair is Kun! AKA my 3rd ult bias in NCT :) 7:26 I am SHOCKED you weren't gagged over Xiaojun (aka one of the best male vocalist of the 4th gen) singing his lil heart out, but it's okay because Xiaojunism hasn't hit you yet, but never fear...it will (14:32 AND YES YOU NOTICED IT LOL) "Phantom" is hands down my favorite WayV title track (arguably 2nd to "Moonwalk"), but it's totally understandable that it may not work for you. I just love that dark, dramatic, operatic energy lol 11:28 This pretty much exactly exemplifies NCT's "concept", it's just a loose, metaphorical application of dreams and reality that allow for fascination visuals and interesting lyrics! 12:40 WayV's music is often very cinematic! And "Phantom" definitely has a villainous almost spooky vibe (which fits with the inspo Phantom of the Opera) "Kick Back" is not a song I'm a fan of. In fact I think it's their worst song lol BUT WayV performed a Rock Remix of it during 2023's NCT Nation concert that changed a lot for me! It's incredible I hope you check it out. 17:40 Yeah Lucas was a main rapper, center, visual and probably face of the group if I remember correctly. Losing him was unfortunately a big knock to WayV's momentum and growing popularity, but I'm beyond proud of how our 6 have bounced back better than ever. 18:47 That guy is Yangyang and if there's one thing SM will do it's give their artist a bowl cut lmaoo 25:41 WayV debuted with the Chinese version of 127's "Regular"! There is some debate on who was meant to have the song first, but NCT 127 released "Regular" first in 2018, both Korean and English versions on their album. Then in January 2019, WayV debuted with the Chinese version. This was SM's way of clearly saying "WayV is a unit of NCT" without saying it exactly. There are some political issues between Korea and China which is why SM did not put NCT in WayV's name, but the message was sent in other ways like the songs and by including WayV on NCT full group albums until the relations got a bit better over the years so now SM can say it a little more clearly. That's also why WayV videos say Label V at the end, they have the same management as NCT, but they have to additionally be managed by the Chinese sublabel of SM. 27:15 WayV debuted in 2019! 28:49 Lol don't worry WayV were grown enough when "Love Talk" released! Ages 19-23 years old. And WayV are kinda known as the "hoe unit" in NCT, they have a lot of songs that...toe that line lol Very shocked that you might not have been feeling "Love Talk" as much because it is without a question their biggest song (it's NCT's most streamed song on Spotify as a whole) and like it's SO iconic, even people who barely know NCT or who WayV are, tend to know the song or at least the chorus. 32:33 127, Dream and U all debuted in 2016 lol you were right. WayV has been the most recent unit until NCT DJJ in 2023 and NCT New Team soon. But they have two full albums and multiple minis so there's plenty of music to explore still! 33:30 In case you were confused about what all WayV's title tracks are: Regular, Take Off, Moonwalk, Turn Back Time, Kick Back, Phantom, and On My Youth. They have multiple music videos for bsides and promoted singles as well though. I do think it's extremely interesting that you seem to not have gotten a sense of what WayV's sound is because for me and a lot of fans it's very clear what their signature is (we obviously are more familiar with their discography so this makes sense). Until "On My Youth", WayV's music (title track wise) has had a big focus on epicness, a cinematic sound, usually on the sexier side with a frequent rock influence and is generally very upbeat. "On My Youth" took them on a slower, more emotional sound that they don't usually have. As a bside from their most recent album, "Poppin' Love" is actually more inline with what fans were expecting from a WayV title track (and it's also currently going a lil viral which makes sense). Their bsides are more similar to their unit mates, with a big r&b and electronic influences. They also sorta have this 90's/00's nostalgic feel to their music, which is a treat. Super excited for you to watch their guide (lao gan ma's 2021 guide is still very much the best option)! WayV have truly unique personalities lol All of NCT are wild, but WayV are especially crazy. And I really hope you watch those NCT Nation stages of WayV's lol no pressure, but I think getting to see each unit's live skills is really important to appreciating what they have to offer and those performances were stand outs. Putting this at the end because I hate when fans (and WayV fans in particular) run these kinda facts into the ground, but WayV is definitely the least supported unit of NCT, by SM, the fans and the general public. It's unfortunate, but there's a lot of sinophobia in Korea and SM has never been known for treating their foreign artists fairly so it's no surprise. But even among fans and kpop fans in general, there's a fair amount of people with just...no interest in WayV which is unfortunate (but makes their success even more amazing because they've had an rocky uphill battle these last 4 years and they only keep outdoing themselves), but I just don't want you to be surprised or discouraged if this video doesn't do as well! Please don't give up on WayV because real NCTzens love the content for all the boys and we would gladly watch you discover more about them!

as per usual so happy to see you back in the comment section!!!!! you taught me so much about them. and honestly I have noticed this reaction has had less traction than other NCT units which is crazy, because I can tell these guys are equally as talented. I generally think the 4 songs I listened to didn't give me a super solid picture of their sound, but basing it off the less Neo-songs, I think it feels like I can see the vision a bit! definitely excited to dive deeper into them and will definitely check out their NCT Nation stages! if they aren't copyright blocked on here, I'd love to react to them!

@@jemmpark WayV brought me here so keep bucking the trends. They are my favorite subunit and I love how much they have grown into their music. Xiaojun's Lee Mujin Service is an amazing showcase of his voice. I believe it's subject to copyright strikes so be careful if you react to it. Turn Back Time, Moonwalk, On my Youth, Diamonds Only, and Poppin' Love are gems. Bad Alive is great but it did take some time to grow on me.

I really love how WaVy is kind of different from their brother units' approach, they incorporate more classical progression on their choruses and pre-choruses sometimes. and that's makes them unique to Dream (Rnb pop and jazzy) and 127 (aggressive neo rnb). all of them are unique even tho they share the same experimental-based hard songs. I really love NCT musically and their amazing composition of songs btw like 2 Baddies from 127, Love talk originally also has strong lyrics that needed to be changed lmao

Thank you for reacting to WayV!! They're my ult unit. I agree, there is a conceptual departure from their concepts before Phantom but i think musically, thematically they have retained their identity in that they do big and dark orchestral (lots of string and keyboard instruments) elements in their songs. I hope you get around to watching their live stages as 6v (smtown 2023, nihao stage, kcon la 2023 love talk and some others) because they really shine as performers. 28:50 all members of wayv were adults when they debuted, if that's your question.

WayV debuted with Regular, after NCT 127 released it in English and Korean. All 3 versions have different lyrics, it's really interesting. Anyway, when WayV initially debuted there was zero mention of them being an NCT unit, they didn't interact with NCT members, and NCT never mentioned WayV either. Fans think this was because of China's ban on Korean music at the time - SM needed to create a wall between WayV and NCT. The only hints we had that WayV was NCT were things like their debut song being Regular, and Xiaojun wearing a "neo" shirt in Moonwalk. It wasn't until 2020 when that wall finally came down and WayV were able to say yes, we're NCT

I am interested to see your reaction to the guide, I wonder who is going to stand out to you. WayV is very known for the sexy(ex: Love Talk, Nectar, Bad Alive). their like rockish type breaks in the title songs, they absolutely always pop off in the vocals (Its SM so what else would you expect). Ten NEVER wears a shirt. Things like that haha. R&B is very much throughout WayV (and 127's) b-sides.

lol definitely watch a live stage of Love Talk to get a truer vibe of the song. It’s basically just them having fun and randomly twerking while nctzens scream their faces off 😂 Also if you found those lyrics questionable there are ALOT of NCT lyrics you should never look up. 😜

WayV was supposed to debut before 127's version of Regular, but they were delayed due to political issues. With the Chinese governments anti-Hallyu stance, SM had to make some changes in order to debut/promote a group there, basically they had to at least create the appearance of separation from Korea... the biggest of which, was dropping the NCT moniker. Had they been allowed to, they would have been NCT Vision, but as things stand, WayV is an acronym for We Are Your Vision. Because they no longer had NCT in their name, many fans were confused about their status and treated them as something separate... but WayV is every bit a part of NCT as the rest of the group is, just with lots of additional hurdles sadly. With Regular in particular, I think one of the reasons SM went forward with it as WayV's debut, even though it had by then become associated with 127, was specifically to create that link and show that they were indeed NCT, without saying as much... along with things like their lightstick not being the same shape perhaps, but the same color scheme and packaging. Unfortunately, that went clean over a lot of folks heads and people were still oblivious to them being NCT or were butt hurt that SM "re-used" a song as their debut. Personally, I love all three versions of Regular and don't care, it's just a damn good song!

I would love to see your take on two groups (funnily they're the only other groups I stan other than my ULT NCT.). Xdinary Heroes (Strawberry Cake, Break the Brake, Pluto, Happy Death Day), I've fallen absolutely in love with them. And as a queer individual; I stan OnlyOneOf (very underrated group, they are actually about to have a comeback on Jan 10th!) some songs by them that may vibe with you and also are great, (Suit Dance, LibidO, The Be Series, Angel, Dora Maar)

To lessen your confusion, I suggest you watch their previous mvs TURN BACK TIME, BAD ALIVE and then compare it to their performance video ACTION FIGURE and then to their track videos MIRACLE, POPPIN LOVE, NO ONE BUT YOU. They have a very wide range in concepts they could execute thus the tendency to be a bit confusing. Also it's interesting to note that except for On My Youth, WayV's best songs are usually in their b-sides - Domino, After Midnight, Horizon, King of Hearts, Bounce Back, Good Life etc., It was during their On My Youth era that WayV took the most control on the direction of their music and album concept. I feel like on previous albums they tried to fit into the NCT concept a lot but these days they just decided to carve out an identity that's more WayV and less neo. They still have that Neo thing going on but their difference with the other units just became much more evident. After their almost 2-year hiatus and with Lucas (their most manly member) gone, they have to create a new image that fit them more. When I think of NCT in general i think of sharpness, edginess but recently when I think of WayV i think of a combination of suppleness and strength. Like even if you look at 127, their choreos are very sharp but WayV combines the sharp and the soft (even delicate) moves in their choreos. If you watch Turn Back Time and Bad Alive you will see how edgy, grungy and hard-hitting they could be but I guess they prefer something that only they could do in NCT. Basically what I'm saying is WayV is more "wavy" than edgy.

I think the thread that ties a lot of WayV songs together for me (especially the title tracks) is that so many of them have elements that feel like 90’s/early 00’s throw backs. In Kick Back it’s the post chorus, Moonwalk it’s the chorus, Love Talk & Miracle are 90’s R&B at their finest, etc. Poppin’ Love might as well have been an *NSYNC song 😂 (it’s really so much more than that, but DAMN IT’S GOOD) A separate thread that ties a lot of title tracks together is the kind of grand scale of the production. They’re rarely just vibes, and often feel intense and theatric… something I personally LOVE, but even the members have commented they wanted to try something different, and On My Youth was such a good balance I think… it still felt like a grand WayV title track, but in the emotional intensity sense instead of the production sense (although it does build with the addition of strings in the last chorus). Based on what you said you liked about the songs you chose, here are my suggestions for a few different categories, depending on what you’re feeling… Other title tracks: - Moonwalk - Turn Back Time More Vibey B-Sides: - Miracle (track video) - No One But You/Invincible (track video) - Good Life (track video) - All for Love - Welcome to My Paradise (Japanese digital single) Ballads: - Broken Love (Live Clip) - Horizon Insane vocals: - Domino (my fave WayV song) Doesn’t fit in any of the categories above but feels necessary: - Poppin’ Love (track video) (Track Videos/Archiving Videos are what SM apparently calls MVs that don’t include the entire song and have a way smaller budget) A few other random things I think are cool about WayV: - Those men are some of the silliest MFers I’ve ever seen, and that’s saying something, cause I’m a Carat 😅 - all the members are ethnically Chinese, but have have several different nationalities (Chinese, Thai, Macanese-Chinese, Taiwanese) - Among the 6 members, every single one is AT LEAST bilingual, most speak 3 or more languages (Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Thai, English, German, Japanese, and someone always seems to be learning a new one). Their lives are absolutely chaos for translators cause they’re constantly switching between languages, often midsentance. - This is already a novel so I’ll save my commentary on individual members until you watch the guide, but I just have to throw it out there that Xiaojun is one of the best vocalists in the entire industry. I’m talking DK level ear & instincts. He’s not even my bias (what up Prod Kun 😏… we’ll get to him) but I have to hype up Xiaojun whenever people shout out those insane WayV high notes. - You are correct, the whole damn group are visuals, and the one you kept eye balling is WinWin 😘

Sorry for the comment spam, I tend to comment as things come up while I'm watching the video 😅 I'm not sure if you have a WayV guide in mind to watch, but the most updated guide is Rowan Kelly's 2023 guide. It's a straightforward guide, doesn't get into personality stuff so maybe pair it with Lao Gan Ma's unhelpful guide (which is good but really out of date)?

Hey! It's funny because we seem to have similar first reactions. When Phantom came out, I liked it, but I wasn't overly fond of it, probably because it was different from what I was expecting from them. However, it did grow on me overtime, and I've come to enjoy it a lot more now, and I love the aesthetics of the MV. Also, this is probably a very unpopular opinion because everyone always praises Love Talk, like it's the #1 recommendation, and I'm like meh. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike it, it's just that I feel they have so many titles that are way better, I don't get the hype, I guess the whole Boyz II Men vibe is not for me 🤷 If you feel like listening to more, they do have excellent title tracks like Turn Back Time and Moonwalk (2 very cool MVs btw), and people suggested Nectar and Bad Alive (I do second those!), but if I had to pick, I'd choose some of their B-sides: Electric Hearts (which some members collaborated on), After midnight, Unbreakable, Domino --> all on Awaken the World, which like someone said is a great album. Oh and yes, one last because it just might be their coolest track: Miracle!!! It was released on an NCT U album, it's only 5 members because Winwin was busy acting at the time, and cherry on top, it's all in English :p Hope that was useful, looking forward to your next reactions.
