I worked on the RAF side of the base between 1971 and 81. There were these ponds dotted all over the site, some with concrete surrounds, others more natural like this one. They had signs "EWS", emergency water supply. They were to be used by fire engines in the event of a fire. There was one of the 400 yard hangers went up in the mid 70s. Intend having a ride round there sometime to get my bearings and see what's there now.
Well briwire it has changed so much around the old base area, all industrial units popped up on both sides of the m62 at burtonwood, I live in the village and have seen the changes over the past 20yrs, it will open your eyes how it's changed. 👌👍👍👍
Thank you I been looking for staff about Burtonwood. ..my step dad was a musician and played gigs there went with him a couple of times you had to change your money to dollars to buy owt
Have you tried magnet fishing whitegate pond, you may know about it already , it was part of the base and is at the back of Livingston Close , old hall, apparently there’s old plane engine parts in there.
Hiya fc19, I visited there a few months ago as I remember course fishing there years ago but it was dried up and full of leaves so I gave it a miss, will have another look at it soon and give it a go, cheers for the info on it. 👍😊
