Much appreciated, Rondre! It has been a really fun smoker thus far and the wood flavor on the food has been outstanding! Cheers and happy smoking my man! 🔥
Just got a dyna glo for a late fathers day gift. Assembled yesterday and doing a burn in tonight then some ribs for the 4th. Love your vids glad I found your channel. Great advice!!
Outstanding, Tyler! It is still to this day, my favorite rib machine and simply can't beat that Dyna Smoke Ring IMO! 🔥 Much appreciated for the kind words! 👊
Hey brother! Always love your videos. My family has started watching you too! Great stuff! You helped me on Dyna before. I just bought a Grand Champ. How’s the coal set up on this thing? Just a full chimney and dump with some wood? Or is similar to Dyna ..layering the coals? Kinda minion method?
Hey Chris, thanks so much for the should out! Sorry for the late reply but yes, I try to go with mostly all wood if I can. I might add some unlit lump charcoal for a boost but I keep adding smaller splits of wood in roughly 25 minute incriments once I get my coal bed going.... depends on how seasoned the wood is. Cheers and happy smoking out there, sir! 🔥
Hey, I love your channel. Your sense of humor is awesome. Subscribing! I’m thinking about getting this one, would you still recommend? Is using it as a grill good as well?
Thanks so much, William. Sorry for the late reply but, YES, I would definitely recommend it for the price. It can certainly be used as a grill/smoker but it would need to be cleaned pretty regularly if that was the case. I appreciate you checking out the video and for the kind words. Cheers! 🔥
You are right, and I'm gone do it my friend! I'm on a mission for MORE Char Griller Grand Champion! Thank you so much commenting and checking out the video! 😎
Love to have you review the smoker after you've used it a dozen or so times to see if the nuts/bolts continue to be tight. I'm thinking that I'd probably go over it with a MIG and just weld up the different points, especially the chimney
Thanks Toophless One! The idea is to review it about 20 cooks in... I believe I'm at 12-14 cooks and it's stayed fairly tight. Just need to add a new gasket is my thinking. I like the idea of just welding the parts together. I mean, it's not like I'm ever taking this thing apart at this point. Thanks my man! 👍
@@EverettBBQ I've done over 20 cooks on my XD and it's held up with no issues. I had the firebox welded to seal it and added a thicker gasket to the fire box. I also added a clamp to the firebox to complete the seal. I cook on it EVERY chance I get! I bought it the week it was introduced and it will last forever. I also cooked with an extended stack and that airflow and temp stayed steady all the way through. Keep on cooking!!!
Thanks for the comment and checking out the vid. I used a PAM spray can for a seasoning burn off and I spray the fire box inside and out with PAM before each cook.
Try turning that charcoal basket for the main cooking chamber upside down and using it for a heat deflector then run a big wood fire in the firebox keep it big?
Thanks for checking out the video, Ray. Indeed, sir.... when I have flipped that grate, I do run a much larger fire and end up burning through more splits but I will say that the temps are much more even throughout the cooking chamber that way. The biggest downside for me has been the difference in smoke flavor. While the smoke is still there upside down, it's not as prevalent with it right side up or removed completely. Cheers to you and happy smoking out there. 🔥
@@EverettBBQ Good to know you would have to drill holes in it but you might want to just get punch plate instead if you want to meet in the middle somewhere It can get punch plate cut to size from your local steel company They have slotted punch plate or around holes that would be awesome
Congrats on the 1K - I have reached out to several that just ignore you. Had one send me something the other day and I gladly said you are too late fool! So, I’ll buy what I want and they can kiss old spot.
Thanks so much, Biggs! Yeah, trying to convince these companies is like banging my head against a wall some days. I am glad I am not tied to Chargriller and don't owe them any cooks or videos or bs. Just smoking ribs 4 dayz playa... Cheers, buddy! 👊
I have been thinking about it but I sure do love the smaller foot print and lighter weight of the 18... I definitely won't rule out the 22 though. 😆 Thanks so much for checking it the video. 👍
Just wondering about a lot of the smoke lakes you were talking about I know steel expands as it gets hot once you got up to temperature and was at running temperature 250 or more did a lot of the leaks stop
There is still a small leak on the left side of the cook chamber but that's where Chargriller did not put the gasket on... it was missing from the assembly. I will eventually scrape them all off and replace every gasket including on the firebox but in general there isn't much smoke leaking out. Thanks so much for checking out the video and for commenting. Cheers and happy smoking to you! 🔥
Get the Dyna-Glow in the background the fire box is too close to the meat and the fire box is hard to clean out ashes. The Dyna Glow is easy to clean the ash and the fire box won't burn your food if it gets too hot look at his side-by-side video .
I honestly wish the Grand Champ had a bigger fire box so that I had some wiggle room to have smaller or larger fires but can't complain thus far. Thanks so much, JSR! 👊
Nice one. Today, I just bought the Oklahoma Joe Longhorn one that is the same style as this one barley used on FB for $200. I ordered some gasket seals and thermometer probe grommet and probe clip. I wasnt even looking for one, saw it barley used and saw it was $599 new and couldn't pass it up. This thing has some weight to it.
@@EverettBBQ myyyyy goodness, I read up on this style, I ordered gaskets for doors, clamps, fire box, 90 degree tube, prob grommet, and a custom baffle that makes the heat even , well a now five degree difference from from left to right. I did a dry run, put a handful of lump, when red, I put two logs in, temp went up to 235-240 and stayed there for ever. Hours later dropped to 200, just added another log, jumped back up to 235-240. Crazy, it holds that long with barley any logs. Butt this weekend, can't wait
Great assembly video. Gives me a great idea of what to expect. And to buy some sealer before I even unbox, lol. Can I ask where you ordered yours from? I was going to get one of these Grand Champs but all the stores around me are sold out and I can't seem find it available online either.
I had to order mine from Home Depot and it took a solid month to arrive, some kind of mixup with inventory. They can be hard to come by. Thanks so much for the kind words and for checking out the vid. 👍
Well how about that…. You’re first name is Joe? I thought it was Everett. Haha. Nice to officially meet you. Always love your stuff brother. Keep it coming.
Ha! All good, John. I actually love it when people call me Everett. It takes me back to HS football, when we all had no first names.... only the piece of masking tape on your helmet that read last name only. Then you see each other in the hallways in class and it's last names for LIFE! 😆 There's also so many "BBQ Joe's" out there on youtube, I'm good with it. Thanks, my man! 👊
Yes Sir! What a beast to put together... I ended up with almost exactly the correct number of parts outside that large A screw, so I can't complain there. Hope your Grand Champ is holding up well. Cheers and happy smoking my friend. 🔥
Hey awesome buddy! Mine is the smaller version 1230 inches cooking space Mine didnt come with any gaskets and leaks like a mother chicken lol. I gotta get some for it but it still held temp great! They are pretty heavy duty for the price though . Cant wait to see what you do with it bro!
Thanks HBBBQ! I am pretty happy with the thickness of the metal and agree, it has been holding temps pretty stellar thus far. Appreciate the kind words, bro! Cheers! 🔥
Nice smoker brother you got brother! Looking forward to see your future cooks on "El guapo" lol. 5 Smokers is not a bad number at all! I only have one offset 😂. Cheers man 🍻
Hahaha! So far so good with the smoke stack after about 7 to 8 cooks in. The gaskets are probably not going to hold up much longer is my thinking though. Cheers, Jonathan! 👍
this was great, line after line, true BBQ is technique and love, having a great time.We see both here in your vid, psst did you see the size of that chicken?
Nice Birthday gift Joe. I'm still waiting tell the 2nd when Costco gets the Louisiana grill in. It's going to weigh about 300 lbs. How is it going to make it to my back porch. Nicely done sir.
they shorted me some bolt and washers.iam calling them monday or tuesday.one les bolt and nut holding the firebox.iam smoking 5 racks of rib.in my communitygarden for the 4th ofJULY.
There have been a few others with a similar story. I didn't even notice at first but they did not include a felt gasket on one side of the lid as well. I can't complain about the food though, that thing is a smoking machine. Happy 4th my friend! 👊
I really think both are solid cookers, I would probably side with the grand champ but then again I am biased! 😂 Thanks so much for checking out the video! 👍
Honestly, a little more trouble than it's worth since it is SO heavy, but I do love the results from the cook. It does great with just wood and even better with charcoal combo wood chunks. I love owning it but it is a bit of a job cooking with it.... it requires more visits to the firebox than your regular offset smoker. I would give it 7/10 stars.... maybe 7.5. I still smoke most of my pork butts, briskets and long cooks on the Weber Kettle with the Slow and Sear if we were talking about volume over the last three years. Hope this helps and hope you're doing well. Cheers and happy smoking out there. 🔥
