Thank you for your service. Great cook! I love my 980 so far. Great engineering on it. Subscribed. Good to come across another channel using this machine.
New subscriber here.. That steak 🥩 looks mouth watering. I've been debating over this pit or the masterbuilt. I believe I made my mind up. Ordering this week!
Finally, somebody that brings them off at around 110! I never understood why people when reverse searing they bring them up to 120-125 then try to get a good sear while keeping them medium rare.
Sir thank you for your service and to those that went to war for our freedom and never returned. That was such a delicious looking steak. Q. What temp did you sear and does your grill have the searing vents that allowed the flame?
Hey Carlos, I did get this up to 650 and it worked great. No this grill does not have searing vents like my Pit Boss but the fat dripping on the heat deflector makes some nice flame. Thank you very much for stopping by.
Awesome vid! I guess steering CAN be down on something with gravity fed or electronics! How do you like the Char Griller 980 vs. your Weber Smokey Mountain? Been thinking of selling my pellet grill and drum smoker for the gravity fed charcoal for the best taste and ease.
So far the 980 has worked flawlessly at temps from 225 to 700. I've yet to cook a butt or brisket on it but it did great on racks of ribs. Thank you for your service and thanks for watching my friend 🇺🇸
Hello buddy I have a question for you I have several grills. I purchased this Char-Griller gravity about a year ago or less. I've done about five Cooks on it my question is how do you get the temperature so high it seems like I'm having a problem. Do you have that vent in the back wide open? Or did you fill up that stack completely?
Hey Chill, I usually start my cooks with a full hopper of either Kingsford or B & B. I normally leave my back vent wide open. My cooker is pretty good at getting to the temps I set it to. Make sure your ash pan is empty before you start and give the cooker plenty of time to get up to temp. Use good charcoal. I seem to have better results with briquettes over lump. Hope this helps some. Let me know if I can be of further assistance. Thanks for watching
Go Navy!!! I’m researching 24 hour dry brine in refrigerator with kosher salt for steaks. I’m wondering if this is on your radar? I’m very new to the 980, it’s still in the box, lol.
I have not tried 24 hour dry brine, sounds interesting. The weathers getting good, time to break out that 980. Let me know how that turns out for you..
Hey Chris, no problem at all. As long as you don't overload the pan with wood it's fine. I'm also putting wood in with the charcoal. I'm really liking this cooker it is operating as advertised. Thanks for watching.
Well I just put one together last night been huntin one for a while and oh yeah thank u for ur service sir I too am a vet combat vet in the men’s department of the navy Semper Fi my brother!🤘
Has anyone experienced a crazy heat spot on their grill? I have a 980 and I have a heat spot on the left like crazy, but on the right next to the charcoal box I have almost no heat, anyone know why this can be?
No, I have no such issues. Make sure your charcoal hopper is positioned properly with the opening towards the cooker. Also make sure your exhaust vent is fully open.
@@mikecha1957 Thank you, I will double check that. I’m 95% sure it is positioned correctly. But I will give it a one over once I get the chance. Thank you.
It is still rolling along fine. I've had to replace the switch on top of the charcoal hopper, but that wasn't a big deal. Have to clear charcoal debris from the fan from time to time. But it's still cooking great.
@@aivandivad It didn't take long at all maybe 10 min or less. But my advice is to give it about 20 min or so after it reaches temp so that the grates are good and hot.
Thanks for the video. The 1st time I used the grill I added a few pieces of wood in the ash tray as the directions stated. For the 2nd time, I added a few pieces of wood in the ash tray but this time the silicone cover leading to the fan burned. This caused the digital display to show "Open." By this time, I had a brisket on the grill. Because the grill was malfunctioning, I lost a $57 brisket. I called Char Griller for guidance. After buying the grill at Lowe's and having them assemble it, I'm pissed that Char Griller would NOT reimburse me for the brisket. If I had been using the grill multiple times before this malfunction, I would not think of asking them for a refund. This was the 2nd cook in 2 weeks! Char Griller is going to send me the parts and now I have to make the repair instead of Lowe's which is NOT my thing. Nov 21, 2021 Update Do NOT buy your grill directly from Char Griller! Buy it from Lowe's or another store that wants to satisfy their customers. If your grill malfunctions, simply return it to the retail outlet within the return policy dates and they will exchange it for a new one. Do NOT follow Char Griller's manual guidance to contact them instead of the store you bought it!!! After researching complaints against Char Griller, it seems everything boils down to "Operator Error." The so called "warranty" is worthless. They make you pay for the parts to repair the grill. Since I am getting a new grill from Lowe's, I will follow Grill and Smoke BBQ's guidance on getting the "new" flap so it doesn't ruin grill #2.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I've been blessed, so far after several months and many cooks it is working great. If I put wood in the ash bin it's not much and opposite of the flapper.
