Get Tickets to FROZEN: www.broadway.c... Go behind-the-scenes and see how Andrew Pirozzi transforms into lovable reindeer sidekick Sven in the hit-Disney musical FROZEN.
I saw on the Frozen website that they have two actors alternate the part. That’s when I knew that this must be the most physically demanding role imaginable, if they’re hiring two male dancers to play him on alternate nights.
For roughly the first year or so, Andrew played Sven 6 shows a week and Adam 2 (the matinees), but I'm glad they now do an even split because it is such a demanding role, and I think it's lovely that they get equal the shows now :)
I love how he keeps saying 'our' and 'we have' instead of 'my' and 'I have'. He has so much respect for the character and the shared experience they have on and off stage. So amazing to watch!
I would love to know what the audition process is like for Sven. Obviously you have to be an amazing physical actor but like ?? do you just walk in the room and act like a reindeer ? I'm so curious!!
According to this Playbill article, he was originally auditioning for another part in the show (I don’t know which) and the casting team said they’d like to see him for Sven. I don’t know what the audition process was like after that, or what made the casting director decide that he was a good candidate for the reindeer part. www.playbill.com/article/how-frozen-actor-andrew-pirozzi-stays-fit-enough-to-play-a-reindeer
Alyssa's Theatre Vlog they might have had a costume present that wasn't the actual one but just a sort of base that they'd be able to use. If they didn't then idk maybe they really were like "get on the floor and act like a reindeer please"
It would be a call for a puppeteer basically - someone who would do things in shows like Cirque du Soleil or The Lion King - people with mechanical and puppeteering skills
I tell you, the first time I saw "Frozen", when Sven and Kristoff came onstage, I was like, "Sven reminds me of the giraffes in 'The Lion King'," and my mind was pretty much blown. Kudos to Michael Curry!
The physicality Andrew and Adam have to play this character is so incredibly impressive, thank you so much for this video showing the process! I've been following this show since it opened on Broadway and only from this video did I realise/learn he's on his toes the whole time!
Yeah, this is 100% accurate. When Sven came on stage, I thought it was an actual animal at first. And that was amazing. Then I realized it was a puppeteer, and I pretty much lost my mind.
Absolutely insane how we watch this man suit up from a normal human being to almost fully a reindeer, and then when that neck hood drops there's an actual reindeer on stage. That is incredible performance.
I totally understand that kick you get from the first audience reactions when you enter a stage! I played Heihei in a danceshow of Moana this spring and even though the music was very loud I could still hear the reactions from the audience when I first appeared! I LOVED it!
This looks as though it requires a great deal of discipline. I love to see videos like this that delve into the rigors of performance that many people don’t often see, or appreciate. One thing I don’t understand is why he gets dressed first to exercise (and get pretty sweaty) before performing, why not exercise first then shower/change into his wardrobe? I can’t imagine that would be an easy costume to clean.
I’m playing Sven at my local theater and I’m so excited (and nervous). My costume is gonna be sort of like this except my legs are the front legs and my back legs are just fake legs on wheels
SO THE COMMENT SECTION IS AS THIRSTY AS I AM FOR ONCE LOL...BUT THERE IS ONE SMOKING HOT OBVIOUS REASON WHY! I wonder if he has read these comments before?
My goodness, I could never do what this guy does, even though he’s playing a underrated role, to be in a reindeer costume with all that weight sounds hard af!
I loved This show frozen it was an outstanding performance when the day that I went way before this whole pandemic even started last year when everything was starting to shut down I was so freakin depressed how broadway closed down until this yr I think it just opened up now
Yeah, but like... how does the puppet work? It blinks and nods and twitches its ears... I know that's not the purpose of this video - this actor does an impressively tremendous amount of work for this role and that's what this is about - but **how does the puppet work???**
P.S. ANYONE THIRSTING OVER THIS HUNK DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO A QUICK GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH OF HIS NAME YOU WONT BE SORRY 🥵😤🔥...Elsa must have some strong powers to counter act all of that fire he is bringing to the stage every day.
