Vatista was the character that i thought had the coolest moves and looked the coolest when UNIB was first revelaled years ago. When I bought the game I was so excited to play her... Then I found out you needed to master quantum physics to play her and quickly switched to Byakuya which was my next pick lol.
Hell yeah gotta love Vat. She changed my view on negative edge and charge chars. Once the pieces start falling into place shes so fun to play its like being 1-2 seconds in the future
@@GeoGyf I'm guessing you're relatively new to under night? Because Vat has been one of the consistent top tier characters in the game. It's in this iteration and in CLR where she got nerfed significantly. Not a big nerf but just enough to be noticeable. I still miss her fast 82B Drill compared to the current version. Also her gems used to be uninteractable, now any attack can destroy it making her gem pressure easier to deal with significantly. And not to mention that before UNI 2 she can never be counter hit because of lore reasons. In this version she can be CH because again, lore reasons. And at the time of writing, the hoops Vat has to go through to get the same amount of damage others can do is a lot of effort. TLDR she went from S tier to roughly mid-low A tier now. Still viable, but if people aren't willing to put in the effort to learn her and just want results, they might be better learning other chars, as much as I love playing vat
@@friskydrinklunkybank1108 No i havent played Undernight. My remark only comes from game balance. It wouldnt make sense that such a difficult character would be low tier, it wouldnt be worth the time in mastering them. So that now you clarified it for me, this makes me respect UnderNight even more. I have played Blazblue & i had no problem with Carl Clover being the strongest character if mastered. Carl Clover is a puppet character, essentially you can control 2 weak characters at once. He wasnt my main.
@GeoGyf I agree with ypu but tbh I think that just falls down if intentional or not. Theres definitely characters out there that are trash tier and difficult to play. Chances are they only exist either unintentionally or its because the character is there as a handicap or challenge
@@friskydrinklunkybank1108 Thinking like Naoto in BB with his 2 frame dash cancels and infuriatingly tight conversion timings and still being like a C-lister at best despite the execution barrier
What I like about Vatista (and a lot of charge characters to a lesser extend) is that the physical execution is actually a lot easier than a lot of standard characters but they offset that by overloading your mental stack. Once you build enough muscle memory or grow a big enough brain, you're rewarded with a fun and complex character that's easy on the hands (as long as you're not playing on Pad).
@@somedragonballfan3502 honestly, not pad exclusive. I'd hardly call myself an experienced vat player, but that tip made the bnb combo infinitely easier
@@ogunns9674 The only major change to inputs in the version is that they made you able to skip one diagonal in a half circle ( mainly for lever less players), and DPs are more lenient. However, the DP one is a double edged sword, because now running fireballs are actually tricky to input without accidentally DPing instead.
Your reaction was similar to mine when i first played Vatista in UNIST1... Never in my life had i seen a fighting game character with reversed charge directions in addition to the regular ones. Kudos to every loyal Vatista player.
I tried her combo trials knowing nothing about the character. The reverse charge motions were one thing, but those combined with negative edge destroyed my brain and hands
I played Guile and thought things couldn’t be so bad. Then I played Saki. Tough but fair, if a little honest for Arcana Heart. Then I tried Vatista and I was straight flabbergasted… I think she’s literally one of the only characters in FG _history_ that you can’t fully master with a pad. Like, even the likes of Zero (in UMvC3 and TvC) and the Clovers in Blazblue have useful shortcuts you can put on pad to make their stuff easier but Vatista!? Hell no!
@@JAnne_Bonne I think they mean to put your palm above the d-pad and use a different finger for each button. I’m pretty sure on most pads you can press two nonopposing cardinals at once, so that should work. Seems like hell on your hand, though.
That happens. When it does, take a break. When you come back later, you'll realize that it has become easier than it was the last time you tried it. That's how the process of building muscle memory works.
I actually started UNICLR by playing Vat. Charges have always been pretty intuitive to me, even when my other mechanical skills were sub-par. Boy, did I ever find out how shallow that comfort was in quick order. I remember spending a week learning how to do 4-1 as a right of passage. I know this pain well. It's strange though, I find these combos aren't hard in a traditional sense, at least not to me. It's a much more raw example of muscle memory. I don't struggle with inputs or timing as much, but the ordering of things gets so much more complex. Really gives these a brick wall feel before it just clicks.
been playing guile for a long time so normally i find charge characters easy and enjoyable but vatista is on a whole other level... it's a relief to know way better players are also getting whooped by her BNBs!
I don't think I'll ever get used to charge inputs. I like to kinda freestyle my combos, but I can't think far enough ahead to set up charge inputs. All the more respect for the Vatista mains who make her look easy, while being an absolute pain to fight against.
I'm of the mindset that charge inputs are kinda bs. For the few fighting games I've played, I've never been able to successfully do charge inputs, despite my friends who play fighting games more than me saying that they're easy. Like, how long is one supposed to hold a charge for before finishing the input? Timing is just impossible to figure out for me.
@@bronzeoliniisnotfunny7885 It's something that very few fighters properly explain. Each has a slightly different length until an input is regarded as "charged", and Vatista in particular has really odd charge periods. I agree that the lack of clarity only makes charge inputs harder to get into, but the fact that almost none of the modern fighters provide proper tutorials on this makes the matter simply frustrating.
Hard part of me playing vat and learning her on pad was going from charging diamond to charge without hurting my hands. Had to do claw method to play her
After finally getting through Vatista 5-1, I reward myself with seeing much better players go through this bullshit. Nice to know it's a struggle to everyone.
Yo more combo videos! Sick to see you do this. These Combo Trials are ridiculous. I wanna recommend you do Hilda next. Use to love seeing Arturo's (NYCFurby) Hilda in the first UNI.
It definitely takes a bit of time getting used to, but once the muscle memory kicks in shes really fun to play because of the charge directions being in both directions, youre technically charging already for your next move while the first ones coming out as long as you dont go back to neutral
the initial task of keeping track of all her weird motions and her negative edge inputs feels kinda overwhelming at first but after a little while the motions/combos have a sorta unique flow that feels, imo, among the best of any charge char.
Congrats homie!!! You've completed Vatista & Arakune 💯!!! Now, it's time for you to come back to Ash Trial 8, 9, & 10 and Hakumen's trials ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾 You're almost from Combo King to Combo Deity 🙏🏾
I can do charge characters for the most part. I can wrap my head around negative edge characters even though I don’t like them. WHO WAS THE DEMON THAT DECIDED TO PUT THEM BOTH ON ONE CHARACTER?!
Most of the combo trials are actually just building blocks that help you build muscle memory to 5-1. 5-1 (starts at 4:07) is her BnB and once you can do that consistently, you can pretty much do everything vat asks you outside of charge partitions but thats not needed to be an expert vat player.
Definitely KOF XIII because theres only really a few chars in under night that are execution heavy, with Vat being one of them. Meanwhile XIII has every character doing crazy combo trials
Not gonna lie, we went from a character that I could not get tired of hearing the voice lines last time... to one that is clearly not for me by a country mile
