Because the reason she lost it was a lien put on her house for non payment of a service. That's the law. If someone does work for you on your house and you don't pay the full amount, the law states that they can take your house.

Just like when you go to jail, and you have to and wait to go to trial, you have right to 72 hour speedy trial, but they don't even honor that. Then allegedly the fraudster bought the home back from the person he sold too for more than what he initially sold it for 2nd red flag. I am assuming that all others after them were legit sales.

Who is her mortgage company? I gladly call him up and let them know that they need to let her back in her home. It was stolen from her. She should not have to pay to get it back or at least the only thing she should have to do is go back to where it was before the other guy stole it from her.

I saw the other episode where it talked about prior selling the house to a friend for 50,000 will then sold it right back to him. Sounds like this guy had no money and no actual dollars change hands. Then Pryor took out a loan for $265,000 on the property and never made a payment. This was a scam from the word go.
The lender should be told "sorry, you are the victim of fraud and you should have verified the man's credentials and bank statements." The lady gets to keep her home. The lender can sue the fraudster.

This is truly unfortunate, but you need to read your paperwork. I have had to fight my own parents to prevent them signing something like this to get some extra money. I ended up giving them the money to avoid their being scammed. If you have family that doesn't read paperwork, you need to keep an eye out for this. I doubt she will get anything back. There aren't do-overs on property scams

The Cook County Recorder of Deeds allowed a scammer to file an $80,000 fraudulent mechanics lien against my home. The fraud department found out and refused to overturn their decision. It cost me $40,000 in legal expenses.

They should be notified of this via certified mail; their title insurance company will compensate their losses. But if they didn't do the transaction with title insurance? This is absolutely terrible. The true victim here is Wanda Jackson, the woman who bought the home in 1977. There must be a way to get the house back in her name, at NO COST to her. She was tricked, scammed out of her house. I don’t know how that contractor, Malcom Prior, could ever live with himself! He stole what she has been investing in for her entire life! The report said she has no money to buy it back, but no matter how much money she may have, she shouldn’t have to spend even one cent to get it back. If somebody ends up losing money (because I doubt that Malcom Prior has any to be seized that could pay the bank back) I am fine with it being the bank. They should have the knowledge and expertise to be able to see through some ordinary guy’s fake documentation. There has to be a way to get this woman back in to her home.

This is so fucked up. Please check on your elderly relatives and what they are doing with their finances because predators are waiting to pounce. A scumbag was about to get my widowed great aunt to sign a contract to install a septic tank. She lives in the city limits and has city water/sewer. Fortunately my auntie found out and sent that POS packing.
Exactly the house should be given back since everyone else gained from the proceeds of a crime, which is fraud. Its not her fault if they didn't know that the paperwork was all fraudulent.
