The other thing about leaning on the run game is your team is the aggressor and players are less likely to get injured. Not just the qb but offensive lineman as well.
I feel like no one is saying it directly, only stating it was part of his draft evaluation, but Bryce is just woefully undersized to play in the NFL. He has the size and muscle tone of a point guard. Russ, Kyler and Caleb are all much more stout and know how to move in and out of the pocket to make up for their stature. Confidence is a big issue as well as his ingrained“on the toes” throwing mechanics but I think the guy needs more than just help on the mental side.
It’s actually insane to think Alt could end up being better than Slater. Slater is All-Pro level. Easily on pace to be the best tackle duo in the league.
There is gonna be games we dont rush for 200 yards more closer to 80-100 yards and herbert will need to do more but when it works like that great running game and great defense you take it everytime I rather be winning bye two or more scores this way than herbert throwing 40-50 times for 350 yards and we still lose bye 3
Rex ryan had some dimb take saying alt only blocked max crosby one time when really he has been killing it already we are seeing hoe joe alt's floor is top 10 type of tackle I do too think his ceiling is were he could be top 5 tackle in the leauge its crazy we are not use to even having average bookend tackle play let alone we probably have pro bowl bookend tackles I to didnt like this pick at first cus everyone kinda got stuck wanting a really good wr at pick 5 but after it set in some I knew if he worked out this was the right move cus we needed a right tackle really bad and tackles are way harder to get than wrs you can get great wrs on day 2 or 3 in the draft or trade for one or get one in free agency way easier than good tackles and the run game and passing game isnt gonna work without having good tackle play if we went the pther way we be complaining about pipkins or whoever was the right tackle cus it more than likely would look really bad we probably will end up with the best tackle duo in the nfl very soon
Unfortunately, if he gets a good head coaching offer he can just leave whenever. With the league trending back towards a defensive league, he should have a good chance over the next 2 years. But Harbaugh has obviously shown the ability to hire good coaches everywhere he has been.
Dissly, Slater and Matlock. Unlike Slater, Matlock is not great on each snap, but he provided crucial blocks that led to the big runs of Dobbins in the Raiders and Panthers games. The GAC gang should give some love to Matlock.
Love the 2 wins so far but this offense is kinda neutering herbert. No point in paying a qb that much just to throw 15 times and 100 or so yds. We could have a game manager for 15-20 mil doing the same exact thing herb is doing and allocating the rest of the funds in other positions
Both starting receivers are injured, QJ is still a work in progress despite his two TDs, Ladd is still a rookie and the TEs have been inconsistent. Meanwhile the run game has been dominant. It’s not neutering Herbert, he can’t throw and catch, it’s forging an identity. Eventually teams are going to start stacking the box with 8 defenders and that’s when Herbert can really unload.
Very bad take yeah he isnt gettjng many attempts but if we had a worse qb this would look bad herbert is doing whst is asked of him which is plenty he doesnt have a dominate wr and TE core this is what this team is now we run control the clock let herbert make the throws he needs to and have a good defense when a team plays justin herbert they always have to still be scared he can score anytime he throws no matter who is catching the ball
