The problem is that if Herbert doesn't close it out, literally no one else ever does. Every other team Acho listed others step up. Herbert is the only player that has to end things perfectly if he is going to win. Because his coach nearly always makes the wrong defensive calls and mismanages downs and clocks on offense. So either Herbert plays perfectly at the end, because it's pretty much always close since there's no defense, or they lose.

It's this simple for me. You put Herbert in the Bengals, the Eagles, the Bills, the Chiefs.... he gets a SB appearance if not a trophy. Because of the coach, and a good enough defense.

Of course the coach will be fired,I don’t watch a lot of Chargers but Justin takes a beating refs don’t call late hits often enough.His receivers don’t draw pass interference calls ,that makes a big difference on final drives.Lamar just beat CINCINNATI,on final drive his receivers were drawing pass interference calls won game .

I was on board with everything until Acho said wen da chargers hold him up he let them down...he's the only QB to have to put his team on his back every single week it's likely he has bad games as well as other good nd great QB's...I get he's not winning games but that's kinda hard to do when the owner nd gm doesn't invest in a decent O-line to give him enough time with the offensive scheme they run where it takes time for the routes to develop. But yet it always come down to him having to win the game when his defense hasn't helped him all game by having the opposing team keep up with their offense. The chargers never had a head coach dating back to the Norv Turner era, they've been putting 1st time, mediocre background/resume coordinators as head coach..and quite frankly these are the results when you don't change the way you run your organization

Justin Herbert is undoubtedly talented. But after 4 seasons (despite being on talented teams) he has a losing record, only been to the playoffs once (were he blew a 27 point lead) & is on the verge of having 2 head coaches fired. At some point, a lot of criticism needs to be aimed at him (especially considering how much someone like Lamar gets slaughtered by fans & media despite being clearly better than Herbert)

Even you all are finding it hard to criticize this guy who hasn't done much to show his "greatness". Jalen never got that luxury, still is criticized but has done more than enough to be top 2 or 3. Herbert and Lawrence won't grow because people like you don't put pressure on him to be better and he doesn't care as much as a Jalen. And this past weekend he put the ball where it needed to be , play calling was great just the receivers dropped it but Staley has to go so many base defenses in crucial times

Mahomes has Kelce, Burrow has Chase, Hurts has AJ Brown, Allen has Diggs... Herbert needs a difference maker weapon or a run game, or a defense. You cannot win these close games without at least one of those things.

Even the chiefs who are usually the ones with bad defense have a defense that can make the stops when needed. And james already said, eagles defense has bailed them out sometimes. Second each year chargers star players never available before the season starts and begins. Third the coaching is bad stalley needs to go bring in a new coach and keep Moore as offensive coordinator or give Moore a chance as a coach/ offensive coordinator and bring in a defensive coordinator. Look at the GM and ask yourself did he make the right moves by drafting and free agencies if not then you need to bring in a new GM who can retool the roster and give Herbert skills players who can be available that's including with the current GM too. Last Herbert is a top 6 QB in the league maybe top 5 mahomes, hurts, Jackson, borrow and Allen all have a great organization and GMS that's why the AFC is called the gauntlet for a reason all the talent is there if you are not improving in the AFC you will fall down to the bottom.

In herberts first 3 seasons the chargers have scored 1233 points ( most in nfl history in 3 year span) , in that same 3 year span the chargers have given up 1256 points (also most in nfl history in a 3 year span) . The Herbert hate is crazy. I think Mahomes this year should tell all of us something. If that defense wasn’t ballin out, Mahomes by himself would not be able to elevate that offense to victory. Coincidentally, this is the worst line and group of pass catchers he’s ever had. And that’s Mahomes. Marino never won it all but don’t nobody doubt his greatness. If Herbert plays another 10 years at his current level, rather he wins the big one or not, I don’t think anybody would doubt he was great.

Herbert is definitely top ten and probably top five in this league, some franchises are just trash, like The Bears, The Panthers, The Browns, The Chargers and it starts right at the very top with ownership. Herbert went to the best situation in his draft class? Wtf is Ocho smoking? Burrow and Hurts both ended up with teams with better overall rosters (Herbert only had a top-10 roster by his 3rd year but then most of them ended up being injured) and head coaches. Herbert had among the worst offensive lines, 2 head coaches in 2 years, a conservative OC in Lombardi, coupled with a roster that constantly broke down with injuries at major positions and had one of the statistically worst defensive units over the 4 years he's been there. Apart from their OL issues Burrow is stacked with offensive weapons, a great offensive-minded head coach, and what has consistently been a very good-to-excellent defense behind him. Hurts has probably the best roster in the NFL on both sides. Truly stupid takes from people who don't even follow the Chargers and just react to surface-level QB win-loss records. Herbert is by no means perfect and still has to grow but is ABSOLUTELY not the problem. Take him out and the Chargers are hands down one of the worst teams in the league. Oh, and the dude is among the top 3 with the most game-winning drives since he entered the NFL which no one ever talks about because it undermines social media analysts like Ocho's batshit narrative. Yea, he has failed a few times this year, but that falls on the Chargers being the Chargers. They forget that in those games, the he lead them to the lead or tie, before their defense gave it up, in all those games. What about this week in Green Bay, where he threw a dot to Quentin Johnston, and QJ dropped what was possibly a Touchdown, at the very least in position for a game tying FG. The game shouldn’t have even got to that point, dropped passes, Ekeler fumble inside the 5 yard line, a PI penalty on 3rd and 20 to extend the drive where Green Bay took the lead…it’s the Chargers being the Chargers. Without Herbert the Chargers are the worst team in the league and may have 0 or 1 win.
