Charice Pempengco was an international pop superstar of her generation gaining worldwide success after someone posted her videos that went viral on RU-vid in 2007. She was the first Asian to breakout the barrier of Hollywood music industry which was really unbelievable for her young age during previous times. Before she became a global singing sensation she was first known around the world via her remarkable performance on Star King in South Korea then followed by her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in US, Paul O’Grady Show in UK and The Oprah Winfrey Show in US where she was dubbed by her Godmother Oprah as “The Most Talented Girl In The World”. Pempengco was the only Filipino to perform in two post-Oscar® Awards After Party, Grammy event, Songwriters Hall of Fame, Muhammad Ali’s Celebrity Fight Night, Andre Aggasi Foundation, David Foster & Friends concert and sung on stage with legends like, Andrea Bocelli, Céline Dion, Donna Summer, Chaka Khan, Patti LaBelle, Michael Bolton, Rod Stewart, Natalie Cole, Kenny Loggins, Peter Cetera, Ne-Yo, Brian McKnight and other more. Subsequently, she also did a musical collaboration with international artists such as Iyaz, David Archuleta, Bruno Mars, Lea Michelle, Unique Zayas and many others. She was once an emcee in the 2011 Teen Choice Awards in US presenting the award to her fellow teen star Demi Lovato. There was also a history that made her name as famous as other Hollywood teen stars when she joined the popular TV series in US called “Glee”. Then appears in three Hollywood movies, she became a theme singer of Hollywood animated movie, Japanese TV drama series and international animated video game. She also had her Web series in Hollywood entitled “30 Days with Charice”. No other Filipino in history who did the same thing that experienced by Charice, because she has a lot of accomplishments that are mostly very tough for Filipinos to achieve. She performed America’s National Anthem “The Star Spangled Banner” in 3 different big events, she’s done performing in Barack Obama’s pre-inauguration ball, already performed a big tribute to 58,000 Fyenoord supporters in Netherlands and she was named as “Icon of Tomorrow” by US J-14 Magazine, “Youngest Winning Judge” by Guinness World Records, “Genius Vocalist” by Hollywood Magazine, “Hottest Lesbian In The World” by the website Autostradlle, “Pride of Asia” by David Foster and a lot of titles to unveil. Aside from that of course she was the first Asian solo artist to land in the Top 10 of US Billboard’s Hot 200 Albums chart and the album “Charice” peaked at number 8 spot which took 7 weeks long on the chart. Charice remain as the only Filipino to chart in two of the standard Billboard music charts (Hot 100 and Hot 200), she has overall recorded 6 songs in Hot 100 including her 3 cover songs and 1 original from the “Glee album” and 1 album in Hot 200. As a matter of fact, she was the fastest rising superstar of the entire Asia, because even the King of Pop Michael Jackson was astonished by the talent of Charice and he invited her also to his final world tour concert “This Is It”. But unfortunately the said showdown of both was cancelled due to the sudden death of Michael Jackson. Charice Pempengco is presently known as Jake Zyrus (transgender man) who also made a name in the music industry since 2017. Zyrus has been very vocal to his true identity since 2013 the year of his coming out as lesbian. Many of his fellow Filipino supporters were disappointed on him but he doesn’t give up to show his talent to the people who truly loves and understands him the most. In just 5 years of being a he, he had received a lot of various recognitions internationally; NHK Japan had made him a special documentary to show to the people around the world his true story from Charice to Jake Zyrus. His documentary has won 4 international top awards from different countries and this was also acknowledged by the International Emmy Awards in 2020. Zyrus is still active in music like this year he released new track called “Fix Me” was written by 4 international artists and he performed this single in 2021 NYC Pride month. There’s more to be featured because in 2017, Zyrus played the role of Akiro in Japanese film entitled “Yaru Onna” and according to him, it was such a nice moment that the Japanese people still believes in him and gave him that big opportunity even though he changed a lot.
