Charles Barkley didn't get to the NBA until 1984 and there were players already making at least a million a year by then, including Moses Malone who Barkley said was elated and astonished to learn that Magic had signed a million dollar a year contract. And Magic signed his million a year contract in 1981, three years before Barkley played in the NBA and was teammates with Malone and Dr. J.
