Barkley is incredibly honest. Like it or not, he says it like it is. Life is funny, when I was younger Dad and I couldn't stand him but it was solely because he was the other team against our Bulls. At age 40 I just see him being more genuine than Jordan, Pippen, etc. Keep being you Chuck!

The 93 Finals against Phoenix was the hardest and the best team they played. If Cedric Ceballos doesn't get hurt in the Seattle series then it's even tighter and Phoenix maybe walks away with it. That 93 Bulls team was worn out and in a bad way mentally -- they all kind of hated each other at that point. The 98 Bulls were probably more worn out than 93, mostly because of age, but they knew how to play absolute lockdown defense for important stretches and really mess up that Jazz pick and roll with the old man defense rules.

I grew up as a huge MJ fan and still am in terms of what he was able to accomplish on the basketball court, the guy was made for basketball and IMHO the best to ever do it. That being said, as I grew up to learn more about his character off the court, its apparent that the guy had a very fragile ego and is very insecure. The flip side of that is his insecurities are probably what drove his insane drive and work ethic to be the very best, a prime example of that was during his HOF speech where all he had to do was to embrace the platform they gave him and show gratitude. Conversely, he took that opportunity to bash his old foes. Very insecure man but very successful too, the ying and the yang.
@johnpu605
@johnpu605 Год назад
Not sure it's "insecurity" about MJ. IMHO, he is extremely secure, especially with his basketball skills. He just hates to lose, both mentally and physically. Not to say that I can understand that mentality, but I just think it takes extreme approach to be extremely successful. If you conform to the standards, then most likely you are just a normal human being. Nothing wrong with that either, just you are not successful.
@Marcus-gw4bb
@Marcus-gw4bb Год назад
@@johnpu605 So you say he hates to lose. Let me ask you this. Why do hyper competitive people hate to lose? One could argue that they are afraid of how others might perceive them. Of losing the status/reputation that they build for themselves. All of which stems from insecurity. Conversely, why does it feel so good to win? Because it puts you directly under the spotlight. Because it boosts your pride and ego. Barkley said it many times in the past that he never had a real job and was so lucky to be able to play a stupid basketball and still earn the big bucks. MJ may have basketball intelligence but Charles has something not many people have: wisdom.
@snakebitten6967
@snakebitten6967 Год назад
Or you can look at it from his historical behavior dealing with failure over his whole career. MJ clearly said “you supposed to be my boy”. That means it’s about betrayal NOT insecurity as you are trying to say. MJ lost a whole lot in the NBA so he is used to losing. What Charles did was seen as betrayal of their friendship. Now, you can argue whether he is correct on viewing it as betrayal, but nothing about his response to failure in the past should lead anyone to conclude its insecurity. A person of MJ’s status in this world don’t have many friends they can trust so when you think you have one solid in your corner and then you hear what Charles said on the airwaves, I can see someone like MJ reacting this way. It’s excessive but that is his personality.
@johnpu605
@johnpu605 Год назад
@@Marcus-gw4bb Nah, nah, nah. I completely disagree with you. I am not a psychology major, but can easily tell if a person is hyper-competitive or he is just insecure. As a matter of fact, I see little connection between these two traits. Insecure people would simply back off from competition, e.g., those who has stage-freights wouldn't even go on stage. People with inner insecurity wouldn't have much confidence at whatever they are doing also. So all in all, by looking at MJ or Kobe, you can never say they are insecure. If anything, they are at the other end of the spectrum.

I love Chuck. But these suck. Sorry Matt and Jack. Love you guys too. But I was 12, and I remember having to go to my grandma's house to watch all the games in that finals( I'm 41 now), cuz I didn't have cable TV. My uncle taped game 3 for me so I could watch it on VHS. I've known for 30 years that MJ and Chuck both scored 42 points in game 2, but I have to sit and watch him say MJ scored 55. So this series is the one of most significant parts of his career, and he thinks MJ scores 55 in TWO games? My dad used to have to walk through 10 feet of snow for 6 miles to get to school, too.

Chuck is the only one honest enough to say exactly why Jordans team under his ownership always sucked. He might be the only true friend Jordan has. Everyone needs that dead honest friend once in a while. You might get mad at them, but they are seeing things from the outside perspective you might not see. I hope Chuck and Jordan talk it out eventually.

Tell the truth Barkley, in the 80's Jordan had no one. I'd like to see you or Isiah play with the Bulls team Jordan inherited in 1984. He didn't have any hall o famers, never had an allstar player until 1991 when Scotty became an Allstar. But check out Scottie playing in the 80's he was awful, he couldn't even make a free throw. From 1987 to 1990 practicing every day with Jordan Scottie became a basketball player. I don't think Scottie even play basketball in college.

Chuck's NOT a supreme court justice. He is allowed to have some personal opinions and issues that he is biased about. Michael's family was running that team. How did he expect him to respond? Was he expecting an invite to next cookout? NO. Whether he intended it or not, he said his family was LEACHING off him on national TV. After you say something like that to a guy, it's on for Life.

@Lloyd Wright it had to be done that way. There was allegedly already a rift in their due to their disagreement over Adam Morrison. That was the private conversation I was referring to. Apparently MJ cussed him out then because of that disagreement so its pretty safe to say MJ was gonna be annoyed regardless. When it comes to people like MJ that have a big ego, criticizing them or embarrassing them publicly (especially by certain people) is your best bet of getting through to them. Privately almost never works because it's 99.9% chance that whatever you say or do will fall on deaf ears. Ultimately it has worked as he's doing a better job of trying to hire the right people and not be as hands on.

Yeah. Especially because if he faced most other championship teams besides one with MJ, he would've won. He had trash teams most other years and the one chance he got with a great team he had to face the GOAT in his prime. Talk about bad timing. The 93 Sun's were a year early because they probably would've beaten the Rockets if they had the same uninjured team in 94.
