So as a follow-up to a preseason video I did on Charles Cross, I wanted to do a video on his season opener against the Denver Broncos. In this video though, I wanted to focus on his pass blocking snaps. For the majority of this game Charles Cross faced two very good pass rushers in Bradley Chubb and Randy Gregory. I wanted to see how he fared in this one.

Hope y'all enjoy this video! As a side note, some may think my C- grade in pass blocking is a bit harsh, but for reference, PFF gave him a 31 in that area plus Geno bailed him out a bunch with his quick release. I DO think he'll keep getting better as he showed himself finding his technique once again. Really hoping it was just a case of nerves!

As a Seattle fan. As long as cross brings better value than James carpenter and Jermaine ifedi ... I'll be fully satisfied

Just be patient. Offensive linemen take forever to develop in the NFL. Remember glowinski? He was awful for us and then wound up being decent for the Colts down the road. I have a lot of optimism for cross given what he's shown week one

Hes gonna get another tough test against the 9ers with Bosa out there. Hopefully Geno starts moving in the pocket to help his guys out.

I think they will give him more help. Seahawks really liked their TEs against Denver’s DBs, which is probably why they left Cross to fend for himself. It worked as both passing TDs were to TEs, but Cross did give up some pressures and a sack.

Glad Geno recognized that he needs to step up the pocket in his recent interview and puts it into play going forward.

Looks like he's getting beat with speed, which is exactly what bosa is gonna do all day. I would hope the Seahawks chip Bosa a decent amount and use extra blockers.

Yeup. Speed around the edge to set up a power move or straight dip is something I'll be watching for his initial kick steps. One thing to note: He did NOT have this problem in college, which is very interesting.

Pete Carrol asked alot of him on his first game. Speaks volumes. It took Chubb until the second half to start showing out, Chubb should be better honestly. Hope he turns up like he is capable of doing, he is a beast

By the time Geno gets to his drop, Cross is already collapsing in front of him. You can't step up in the pocket before you finish your drop - this is all on Cross. He got hammered by two of the best in the game, and without any help at all. Did good the first half, got crushed in the second. So Cross needs to work on strength, stamina, quickness ... these are all conditioning issues.

That 2nd sack wasn't 100% his fault, you're right. Geno was too deep and didn't move up but it also was partly on Cross because he gave up the edge again and didn't have the power to force Chubb past the QB. His footwork is inconsistent which is to be expected. His hand placement also

Geno stepping up and throwing accurately on the move was one of the main reasons the Seahawks were able to win this game. Only a handful of NFL quarterbacks can play better than he did against Denver. They're lucky to have Geno as long as he plays the way he did in week one. If they had to start the guy they traded for, they would've gotten smashed despite the opposing team turning the ball over twice inside the 5 yard line. Geno is making the Seahawks front office look good right now. Noah Fant and Drew Lock suck. Charles Cross got worked by Sam Williams in college. They spent a top ten pick on him. I do like the Lucas and Walker picks, but Mafe has a steep learning curve, because he struggles fundamentally with PA. Woolen doesn't get his head around and track the ball on vertical routes. He's stiff as well, so he'll struggle with breaking routes if he doesn't redirect, which he didn't do well in college. Coby Bryant can't tackle at all.

How do you feel he’s going to do against Nick Bosa?
@noahparker462
@noahparker462 Год назад
I think you've called this out in previous analysis of Cross... his "false step" - basically his first step being a wasted step that doesn't take enough depth. Seems like you are referencing that in the analysis of his first sack. Is that accurate or is this something different? If so, sounds like same old same old for him and this weakness...
