When I was a little girl Jimmy Smith,Jack McDuff, Joey D and Charles Earland were my grandfather's favorite musicians musicians.I used to laugh at them, now I honor their amazing talent.
I am not able to fix the exact date, but it must have been late 80s as it seem that I hide my AR 70 rifle in my cabinet and I deserted (AWOL) my guarding shift at an antisubmarine air force base in Sardegna-Italy to attend mr Smith concert. I was a conscript im national service and mr Smith arrived in Sardegna with a broken arm in plaster; he played anyway and nobody complained in the end. Amazing (that I didn't ended up in jail.)
Chitlin' circuit at its best. God, where is good jazz now? Lincoln center or something? Local organ clubs used to be THE way to get out and have you some good clean fun EVERY weekend.
this is just s bad as the groove merchant lp that was mcgriff versus holmes with their new xb-3s on the cover..ftg out of nowhere w gtr by o'donnell levy. anyway i cant beleive how many blues i've listened to & played, shuffles mostly, and this one slams as fresh as any ever since the day. tenor sounds like eric alexander, who was charles' greatest find
