Great performance, but a very frustrating couple to watch because I feel like this couple isn't going to get anywhere in the WDSF amateur division. Charles looks like a WDC professional and Elena simply isn't on his level. He's an elite dancer. He literally dances circles around her during their jive routine. He belongs in the WDC as a professional. He's still young so hopefully he realizes how talented he is and how much she's holding him back. It's sad because he said that they have a brother-sister relationship. Not sure if they'll ever split.
They were champions in the Junior and Youth category, and very soon after they turned Amateurs, they have been in every single final competition. By all accounts, this is a very successful partnership!! Elena is really talented as is Charles. Very few couples actually manage to become No 1 in the world but just because they aren't, doesn't mean they should split! They are established successful dancers which have a UNIQUE style - and for one I welcome the different style! If every couple in the final were dancing the same way it would just be boring..
ioanna loupasi I'm not saying they aren't successful. They are one of the best when it comes to Latin show dances. I'm just saying that I feel like Charles is a level above Elena. Imagine him with someone like Kristina Moshenskaya. I think they'd definitely come in 1st.
I totally understand what you are saying but even if that is the case, then they should work on improving Elena for example rather than just throwing the partnership away.. Persistence and hard work is the key, not changing partners every couple of years like many couples do..
ioanna loupasi precisely. even Current and recent world champion couples like Riccardo and Yulia, Michael and Joanna, and Arunas and Katusha were distinctly lopsided when they started, in this case in favor of the ladies, but the ladies brought their men up through hard work and developing connection rather than drop them for stronger dancers.
David the Bard I feel like it's easier when the female dancer is better than the male dancer than vice versa. Take a look at Sergey and Melia for example. Melia was never able to reach Sergey's level. I don't think Elena will ever be able to reach Charles' level. If the female dancer is better the male dancer can kind of take a step back and make the female dancer the focus. When the male dancer becomes the focus of the routine it looks like something is missing. Look at Balan and Moshenska now. Moshenska is better than Balan, but they finally started to make it work and now they look like an excellent couple. They might even be the best couple in the wdsf right now.
