+Leopold Cat Yes it is fantastic. Why it isn't more well-known? Because people can't be bothered to listen to anything French that isn't written by Ravel, Fauré, etc. If this was written by Ravel, it would have been quite popular I suspect.
Five years late, but the reason Koechlin is mostly unplayed is because he never never promoted his music and was more known as a great teacher. He also did orchestrations for major composers (Fauré, Debussy)
@@toothlesstoe try listening to Mahler's Symphony #8 at a concert hall or with earphones, or try Das Lied von der Erde and perhaps you will get some feeling back. Cheers!
@@nicholas72611 I thought 1 & 9 were too advanced for someone who "never felt anything listening to Mahler." The 8th is the most "feeling" of his symphonies. i don't think you can walk out of that concert and be the same person that walked out. However, À Chacun Son Goût.
@@nicholas72611 I think 5 and 6 are probably the most accessible (although 6's finale is rather long). Personally I'd never recommend 1, but it is probably also up there for accessibility.
Gorgeous music by this composer seemingly doomed to unjust neglect. Happily this 2-CD set is quite easy to find. Thanks again for incredibly well-informed notes.
