but she is completely unaware that the Beach Boys stole one of Charlie's songs and didn't give him credit or money. Helter Skelter was a schizophrenics delusional prediction, but getting Bobby out of jail, scaring Melcher in retaliation for the music, and Tex Watson was sent to do it because Manson had to shoot Lotsapoppa. Diane Lake is a very minor character and she didn't really know anything at the time. She published a book when she reached retirement age for income purposes, but she doesn't have anything to offer that hasn't already been said and written a dozen times.
@@Wildberryjamband She admits she was a minor "character" in the story. But that doesn't discount her book, which is much more about how a 14 year old could be pulled into a cult and how she personally was affected by that type of life. She was assaulted by him and testified against him in court. It's an amazing story. But a much more personal one. It's not a true crime book. It's a memoir. The first section about her own family is also wild.
@@Wildberryjamband Agree with you except for the minor part. I have nothing positive to say about Lake and I call BS on her entire "recollection". She should never have been allowed to profit from a book. She's a liar, a manipulator and should have been prosecuted for something.....perjury? As a kid, I was working at 12 for a neighborhood farm. You don't even want to know what I think of this woman!
I met Diane on a trip to Israel. She bore her testimony and it was very moving. She is very quiet and soft spoken. Fortunately a caring couple adopted her.
Manson apologists and the conspiracy theorists are a joke. They want to disregard every shred of firsthand testimony of the people who were actually THERE. It is so desperate and so hilarious.
There should be an ethic code to never publish stuff on killers. I'm pretty sure there would be many many less people like that if they weren't treated almost like celebrities.
This is interesting because I agree with you're idea... but I feel we all have to be as open as possible and talk about everything. I think the key is attacking this at it's root, rather than the scraps after the fact... We should be putting our efforts towards our prison system and actually trying to reform people rather than stuffing them away and services that make parents more accountable for their kids... Unless we do, there will always be worse and worse Mansons in a never ending line. Ethics will not even hinder these people. They don't think that far down the line. These types of people live for the day... and until we address the root of how people like Charles Manson are manufactured by our society, it will only increase as time goes by. Great comment and insight though...
Yeah, but there's a difference in reporting news and shaping the narrative. No news media that I know of actually just report what happened without showing bias towards how they expect or want the listener to feel about it. Real news reporting shouldn't carry within the message itself emotionalism, judgment or moralizing. Should be just the facts and the facts should not be selected based on whether they support the narrative they are telling.
+MalicelnWonderland the problem is that often with these cases, the media reports on them so much, that it's almost impossible for the accused to get a fair trial with an un-biased jury (see for example the case of Pamela Smart). Also: I don't think it's necessary to publish everything, e.g. photos of the crime-scene, police-investigations, surveillance-camera-footage, photos of the murder-weapon. In part, because it is extremely disrespectful to the families of the victims, because these pictures stay on the internet forever and they have no chance to escape them. But also because it sensationalizes crime and murder and that's exactly what sociopaths respond to. Most serial killers, in part, want to be famous, no matter what. If we give them that, we encourage them to murder more people.
Knowledge is power, I want to learn the mind of a killer and see their reasoning. Is it racism? Sexism? Discrimination? Mental illness? Better knowing could push for positive change. There should be a code of ethics to never publish stuff on the Kardashian’s... for my daughters sake and her IQ....
Hey Mister DJ no need to get upset and attack. It’s true. I’m assuming the “good homes” you’re referring to are highly dysfunctional behind the scenes.
She comes off as opinionated. A good interviewer should try to stay neutral and hide their personal beliefs. She did them a favor by coming on there show to do a tough interview.
Diane's book is incredible. it's like a day-by-day account, it is amazing. the detail about the acid trips was wild, i had never read anything like that before in works covering manson. anyone interested in this subject matter should read her book . . .
her book really did a number on me + i thought i was impervious to all things 'manson.' super unnerving. the only reference to 'snake' i ever knew was when paul watkins mentions meeting her in the robert hendrickson doc 'Manson," i think the family decided to sort of disown her b/c she was so young--sad story . . .
Agreed. It felt like "Whoa, I just got a call from a celebrity. An insane killer, sure. But still a celebrity. That must mean that *I'm* cool and have celebrity qualities too. I always thought so."
Not really I’m strangely fascinated by cults and how people fall into them and it was because in my second last year of school we had to start our last year history exam project and I care across Charles Manson and bought the book helter skelter and was fascinated by it all
candice bergen was considered for Valley of the Dolls, but Sharon Tate got the role. Bergen and Melcher were a couple at the same address a few months before the murders. That's a wild connection.
@Respect/Walk She was 14 when she first met him, and approx 16 when she left him, and didn't take part in any of the killings. What is it she's responsible for that she's not accepting?
No, We don't Thank God! We were not their age nor were we kicked out of home and left to fend for ourselves, were We? I wasn't were you?... and on psychedelic drugs to boot were WE? YOU? I wasn't! At least have a modicum of intelligence or knowledge on something BEFORE You post Ignorant comments! SMH!
Manson followers Paul Watkins and Leslie Van Houten talked at great length and in great detail about the race war. These interviews are on RU-vid. Buddy Day is trying to sell his film.
Yes exactly! I read Tex Watson’s book and he really thought that the Abyss was going to open up in the desert during Helter Skelter, the family would escape the mayhem from the race war.
Somebody clue Megan in that she is not Oprah no matter how hard she tries! Whole show is rehash of ancient history that these people have lived off long enough!
Shona Harris Agree feel it was really about his failed music career n fact Beach Boys stole his song!! He had murdered others on ranch, just kept on going!!
I don't think he meant it like you make it out to be. Im sure he knows of the evil inside manson, but in thr conversations it wasn't like "omg this is the voice of the devil"
I’ve been involved in prison ministry since my youth & went to visit Charlie hours before he passed . I left him a silver cross I bought him at the gift shop and a prayer I’d written .
A.T.W.A was and is a scam to make money. ATWA when it suited them. after they took cars and then burnt them out . gun Target practice into trees. Dumpster diving then burning the trash or leaving in piles around the ranches . They was not ATWA at all. Doing all those is hardly conservation concerned..Its nothing more than another manson scam No mention of ATWA at all while they was out of jail. He only started all that crap when he was inside to win favour from the newly forming ecology movement ..
Michael Dunetz Amen. My Bible says that every sin is equally bad. I'm a sinner. Sure I'd never ever do what he did, but in God's eyes Charlie and I are the same. Except that I'm forgiven and I'm sure he never was because he didn't think he had done anything that needs forgiving.
Sunny Dae She has probably spent countless hours praying for the families of the victims and possibly has reached out to them. Why must you come here with such negativity? It's one thing to have a civil dialogue with Karen and question her actions but to use sarcasm makes me wonder if you care more about sounding clever than you do the victims.
I am just finishing reading Dianne’s book right now. I’ve read Susan’s book. Tex’s book. Helter Skelter. Manson in His Own Words. All very interesting. Add to that the book CHAOS. 😮 In the end - as with anything, we’ll never know the whole truth. But I do think Charlie told them what to do. He and Tex had both been at the Tate house. Charlie and the girls had partied at the house next door to the LaBianca’s house. They chose houses that they knew the layout of and the surroundings. I am pretty confident that Charlie was at both scenes but let his followers do the dirty work for him. He still put them up to it. That’s my take after much reading.
If you are interested in learning more about Manson and the family, Coming Down Fast by Simon Wells is a very detailed, easy to read and informative book.
nobody is under anyone else's spell. they excuse themselves by claiming they were under manson's spell. but that is just an excuse. it's their way of trying to absolve themselves for the things they did. and many of those things they did have never been punished.
I like your tough love approach, however young people can definitely be profoundly influenced in harmful ways and for many reasons. Opinions are great, and nowadays some people think opinions are as good as anybody else's facts. However it may be best to consult experts in the field when we are looking for answers.
It seems weird this man had such power, nobody can force another adult person do what they dont want, there is freedom to say no, freedom to run away, freedom of get together and oppose him. He didnt treat them with gun, do it or be death.
@Brancaalice Jim Jones had power over the lives of hundreds of his followers. So much so that everyone in the congregation packed up their belongings, said goodbye to all of their families and friends and moved out of the U.S to Guyana. Once there, he convinced hundreds of people to drink cyanide laced punch in order to leave this cruel world and move into the next dimension. Some had to be convinced (at gunpoint), but in the end, 900 people followed him to their deaths. So yes, brainwashing can and does happen whether people understand or acknowledge it. It could be argued that brainwashing is a component of most religions.
lady...the fact you were there in the cult for two years...you indeed would've been one of the killers...he just didnt choose you! EVERYONE at that ranch wouldve...
I don't think everyone at the ranch would have been capable of murder. The night after Sharon & her friends were murdered, Linda Kasabian who was part of the cult, deliberately screwed up Manson's plan to commit a third set of murders. Some people were living on the ranch because they didn't have anywhere else to go, they were not all evil killers. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the cult was a good thing. The vile, evil creatures that brutally murdered those innocent people, in my opinion deserved the death penalty, shame it was abolished.
Nurse Jen very true. I read Dianne Lake's book and don't think she would have been able to commit murder. That's why Charles Manson didn't have her do his dirty work. He groomed them and knew exactly which ones would be capable of doing it.
Brandye Nycole looking back it’s easy to say but being there in the muddle of it and living it was traumatic on some level for her.. glad she did what she did.. drugs can alter people..no it’s not an excuse but it has a bearing,.
When he was relased in 1967 before the Tate/Labancia murders for other crimes he asked the police not to let him go because he liked life better in jail than the outside world.
awesome. There was obviously therefore no reason to release him. Let him be as free as he wants to be as long as he's locked up in a 6X6 cell. Suits me fine.
I love it !!!! Another Charlie fan boy, who is pushing a film claiming Manson "was framed by the DA".... having to sit there, and hear someone who was actually there, telling what happened, that Charlie WAS pushing Helter Skelter, and he can't argue other wise !!!!
Or....he ordered the killings Tate et al, and the Lobiancas to cover up other killings he was involved in. That's Day`s theory. But manson supposedly decided to tie the them with black folks, hoping it would go OFF!
the copycat motive to free Bobby, and scaring Melcher and Wilson for stealing his song without payment were also part of the motives. Watson was sent to do it because Manson had shot Lotsapoppa for him and now Watson owed him the favor of starting Helter Skelter; freeing Bobby and scaring Melcher. Its a triad of motives and Diane didn't know anything about the Hinman, Lotsapoppa and Terry Melcher motives.
I don't have to go see "Once upon a time in Hollywood". I lived through it. But the younger generation should understand what this man did to these innocent people. By watching this movie, they will know how evil this man really was. I was only a little girl, but I remember hearing about it as I got older, and it really upset me.
I too grew up terrified of Manson and hippies. My mother was totally freaked out by hippies as deviants who could at any second harm you. Because of Manson's facial similarity to photos of Jesus I was often terrified when staying overnight at my Christian cousins home because they had an illuminated portrait of Jesus on the hall wall outside the bedroom. All night I could not sleep as I would fearfully stare at the Jesus picture thinking that it was Charles Manson. Shivers!
"Charles Manson Followers Buddy Day & Dianne Lake..." Buddy Day was never a follower, he's a journalist who wasn't even born when Manson went to prison. Dianne Lake left the family to testify against him at his trial 50 years ago. Megyn do you really need bs like this to attract clicks?
Manson never did anything himself he always had others do his dirty work. He told them what they wanted to here they were just to stupid and high to know they were being used.
Let's look up what is a murderer a person who commits murder ,a killer serial killer slaughter hit man gunman hired gun that's not charles manson if he put a seed in them and they did it, he has part of it, but that don't make him a serial killer or mass murdered
Brenda Burditt if you plan a murder you are just as guilty as the person who did it he planned it and got girls that he knew were as evil as him and would do it to carry the murder out and Tex
At least he got caught and got punished. Their are people like OJ Simpson and Amanda Knox who got away and btw she became a millionaire writing about a murder she committed.
Ive been taking acid for almost ten years. Even had a vile and held my own acid test for a while... Never have i ever. Idiots do what idiots done. Dont blame the drug.
