This song/music is absolutely astounding. Rich melodic speech, harmonies breathtaking orchestration constantly renewed in the use of the stamps of the orchestra, in short a Babylonian sound architecture erected by humble and impetuous composer !
Yes!!! Widor was ABSOLUTELY capable of writing epic works.....check out his Eighth Organ Symphony in B Major, Op. 42, 4. A MONUMENTAL masterpiece and one of the greatest works ever written in the 19th Century.
Charles-Marie WIDOR (1844-1937) - Symphonie antique pour solistes, chœur, orgue et orchestre, Op. 83 (1911) I. Allegro moderato (0:00) II. Adagio (11:20) III. Moderato - Allegro (18:25) IV. Moderato (25:57)
By far my favorite piece of classical music ever. Widor was such a genius, and the Symphonie Antique is the ultimate culmination of his musical knowledge and skill. I am also fascinated by Widor's working of the background of the symphony; if you will. Like how the Te Deum, in legend, evolved from a pagan war cry to become the christian chant it is today, and how the Lauda Sion fits into this. Wonderful! Anyone know who the vocal soloists in the fourth movement are?

Fijense que este sinfonia tiene un cierto nivel wagneriano no solo por la orquestacion sino por el profundo dramatismo. Es de una excelencia perdurable y lamento tambien que no sea mas conocido como debiera. Desde Argentina
