In a life of exceptional achievement, Charles Perkins, soccer star, university graduate, Aboriginal activist and Canberra bureaucrat, has often been in strife. In this interview he gives his own account of the personal experiences that fueled his great anger against white injustice and his determination to fight for Aboriginal rights.

I just stumbled on this; I do remember Charles Perkins vividly as a lovely feisty individual. I came out to Aussie as a (10 pound ‘pom’) knowing not much about Aussie & Aboriginal affairs around 1960 or even that they did‘ not come into the school curriculum. But I’m glad for him that all his work and angst was not for nothing. Very glad to have met up with him again. Thank-you.

Charles Perkins was brave, courageous and intelligent, unfairly reported and unjustified criticism of a man who just wanted stand in the gap for his people, Aboriginal people. He was kind and a gentleman to me, I respected him greatly. He was my boss. RIP Mr Perkins.
