Nocturne is the quintessential of Chopin's music. Some melodies on rubato always make me cry.. So appreciated to GOD that I was born in time of youtube so I can hear this kind music whenever I want to.

Absolutely beautiful. Best version I’ve heard. He’s got such passion.. I’m debating on whether to learn this next. I shed a few tears, especially on those last chords. It’s like this piece was the ups and downs of his whole life, the fast moving fame, the crazy but nice relationship he had with George Sand, the sadness, loss and homesickness he had felt but also the euphoric fame when he was in Paris etc. I feel like it’s all captured in this one piece, then right at the end he embraces his death. This piece really does make me cry..

I think this set is the loveliest chopin ever wrote, he is a very dear man and will always be in my heart. I'm sometimes afraid of his music because it is so beautiful and I'm ugly

Indeed Charles is very mature...actually I'd say DEEP. As a person and in music. So no worries - he'd carry his (guaranteed) fame well ! And to those who say "no special feelings": please keep in mind that real playing is not about fireworks and forced originality. It is about going deep and understanding music. Charles does it better than any other pianist at the Chopin Competition.

This is the most expressive and touching interpretation of this nocturne I’ve heard so far.

Charles Richard-Hamelin...amazing. His rubato is like Rubinstein's. You cannot learn it - you have to have it. Charles has to win !

+Ivonas Garden Yes or I don't know what is good piano playing !
@morinoroba
@morinoroba 9 лет назад
+Ivonas Garden I agree. I think this talent is rare nowadays, no eccentric strange aideas, no stupid facial expressions, just very sincere, great unity through a piece, such dedication to music. After all, his musicality is very matured! I hope juries are wise enough to let him win, but at the same time I have mixed feelings that if he should win...because then he will have horribly busy days as a winner, which is not an ideal situation to develop his artistry to be even better pianist in future.

Wouldn’t having musicality allow you to have good judgement on rubato?
@greenapple306
@greenapple306 4 года назад
A Man Has No Name I think rubato is very personal, personally whenever I see rubato in the one of the coda of the ballade 1,2,4 , I hate it but the pianist himself feels it this way.

Authoritative, beautiful interpretation (amazing there can be so many). Especially enjoyed the Agitato of the E Major. Too many pianists slow down but his tempo was spot on.
@JaseBach

Mr Richard-Hemelin's way of playing Chopin recalls that of the great Claudio Arrau, who made gravity a virtue. Charles is like Atlas, carrying the weight of the world on his shoulder. This is an unusually heavy reading of this nocturne and as a result, it digs deeper than most. RU-vidrs looking for nice and beautiful music should look elsewhere; this is a lament, the last nocturne Chopin wrote for publication and a farewell to life. A performance of this nocturne fails if it does not bring a tear to your eyes.

The Nocturnes are my favorite from Chopin though I love most of his works. Op 9 No 2 I love dont get me wrong but its way too overplayed and used all over media like it's just another classical piece, and it isn't which is why I can only listen to Op 9 No 2 a few times before having to change my music. I do believe this Nocturne is heavily underrated, certainly being the last Nocturne composed by Chopin makes this piece special.

Good sonority and phrasing from the beginning. However the left hand melody leading up to the agitato could be more expressive. The intended introspection was not fully conveyed, making the music rather dull.
