But it wasn't like he never had a shot with her. The very beginning of the video shows that. She did give him a chance which he blew by being too needy. Then she wrote him off.

@@MissEasyPeasySleasy I'm just rewatching Season 1 again and I noticed some things which suggest that maybe Rosa was into him too and maybe the writers intended to put the two together eventually. I'm glad it didn't happen because they'd be a bad couple but still a Rosa Boyle pairing isn't as absurd and impossible as people in the comments section say.

I was glad that early story arc ended rather quickly. Charles didn't really grow as a character until he realized it wasn't ever going to happen and got over his crush on Rosa. Once he finally moved on, he and Rosa were able to slowly build a lovely friendship, and if you ask me, that's the farthest from a fail that you can get. They would've never worked as a couple, but they work so well as friends.

Honestly, I think that that is the hallmark of a well written-friendship based show. I had the same thought when I was watching Friends. All of the characters had their own weird, warm friendship dynamic that existed just between the two of them. Whereas I can think of other shows built around a group of friends that in which the bonds only exists between a handful of characters key within the bunch and it just doesn't get as engaging.

I feel like it’s a common trope on shows for one character to desperately obsess over another (clearly uninterested) character, and towards the end of the show or after a life saving experience the other person always has a change of heart and they get together. I was kind of expecting that here and was pleasantly surprised that didn’t happen. Sometimes people are better as friends and their relationship ended up being really nice. I thought it was a nice change of pace and did some nice character development for Charles.

In any other show, the hair and locker episode would have led to Rosa seeing Boyle in a WhOlE nEw LiGhT. But instead, Charles apologised for his inappropriate behaviour, and I love it. These two work so well as close friends

She's pretty but, I mean, personality-wise Boyle would be an insane match for her (as would most people). I'd never try to pursue someone like her simply because I find her personality unattractive. Ditto for Gina.

@@VitchAndVorty no, because she explicitly told him she wasn't interested, and multiple times. plus they don't have any romantic chemistry, their relationship is too sibling-like for them to work as lovers. as opposed to Charles and Gina, who in my opinion had potential to become a couple from the start.

Not exactly failed. I think that with so many series where the loveable loser just ends up with the amazing girl, it's more realistic to portray them as becoming friends rather than keeping the running joke of him hounding after her(wish they had done that with Gina and Terry when she was still on the show). I think the thing I love about Gina and Charles friendship is that he goes from the overly eager "Full Boyle"with her to a great friend(he saves her from getting shot and never takes advantage of her for "owing him"or anything dumb like that, he supports her relationship with Marcus(Holts nephew) and helps her say what she needs to when they're texting, she comes out to him first before anyone else as bisexual.) Rosa and Charles relationship is absolutely heartwarming, but she was never interested romantically in him.

Glad that he moved on from her, it honestly felt creepy how he constantly made advances at her and was worried that the show would encourage the two to be together. Actually glad that it transitioned to a beautiful friendship where Boyle helped her with her relationship with now ex Marcus and came to the point where Boyle was the first person Rosa came out to for being bisexual.

They didn't. They became pretty close friends and had some hilarious moments together. But Charles never saw her in a romantic way again. He moved on and was much happier and, ironically, he and Rosa grew closer as friends because of it since there was no longer any awkwardness preventing them from just interacting.

I think a lot of people are glad they dropped this plot idea but I’m glad they had it to some level. Not only do I think it does a good job with developing their friendship in later seasons and establishing key points I really like (such as Charles being the first person Rosa came out to) but it does a good job at giving Boyle relationships he deserves. While he might be my least favorite character (mainly due to the comments he makes to Jake/Amy about their relationship) I don’t think he ever deserved Rosa and I say this as someone who really like her character. It’s good to see that crushes sometimes just won’t work out and sometimes they just aren’t good matches even if you can’t help but crush on someone, and it’s nice that both were able to understand this to some level.

I do like the way they handled this. They were not right for each other anyway but I'm glad they didn't make Rosa like completely ignore him and not even give him a chance. She did give him a chance which he blew by being too needy and that led to this couple never happening. I'm honestly fine with that. Plus Genevieve is obviously the right choice for Charles.
