As a African American STAR WARS fan from the beginning,(1977) I really appreciate how a writer like Charles Soule writes black characters like Lando Calrrisan(in the comics) and Bell Zettifar in LOTJ. He gives them depth, personality, a little swagger, and humor (without coming off as a buffoon) plus he gives black characters some "KICKASS " moments. Disney/Lucasfilm and Marvel have a rare treasure of an author on their hands, with a talent like he has. I am a fan! Hey Alex please tell him I said THANK YOU, for his part in keeping me as a proud African American STAR WARS fan 4Life. 💯🔥🔥🔥MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU ALWAYS!!! P.S. Light of the Jedi was AWESOME!!

Thank you for letting me know this. I was very upset with the treatment of non white characters in Star War. I too am African American and for the last year I have been holding a grudge against star wars with how we were treated in the last two movie. That said I love the books, and I love Charels Soule. I have yet to crack open his star wars stuff but your comment has made me excited to read anything SW by him.

It's Keven Tarr for me. I think Soule wrote his perspective as a nerdy tech guy very accurately in my opinion. I found myself worrying about the heat output of the droid array (much like computers and servers in real life) at the same moment Keven did in the book and I just found that so satisfying and validating.

@Haljordan4life I love the OG Thrawn Trilogy. Honestly Im not the biggest fan of the latest Thrawn books. I liked his debut novel in the canon but I wasnt crazy about Alliances or Treason. Ascendancy was interesting because of the Chiss Lore but I thought Thrawn is becoming too predictable as a character that is always right and always manages to get the upper hand. Another thing I dont like is how Zahn's new canon characterization of Thrawn doesnt align with how we see him in Rebels, the Rebels version aligns better with the Legends Thrawn. Because in the new canon novels Thrawn seems like a good guy on the wrong side but in Rebels he is clearly evil when he kills the Bendu. I personally prefer to him to be more evil with some morals rather than a straight up "good guy" that Zahn makes him out to be lately. Especially if Thrawn is gonna be the "Thanos" and be this big bad across multiple shows, definitely prefer him as evil.

On the paths: I get what he's trying to say. But the thing is, most of the important core places you are worried about them appearing are places that you CAN show up without warning. I mean, with regular hyperlanes, you don't know if a ship is coming or about to pop out of hyperspace right? So I'm still not sure what the real difference is. Maybe it's that long hyperlanes are not contiguous. There are systems along the way, where you have to come out, fly across the system, and then re-enter the lane because that's the point it was charted from. That would create road blocks where you could monitor who is coming or going along a major hyperlane (other than interdiction, which they don't normally do). IF hyperlanes have points in them like that, then the danger of the paths would be more apparent. Do they? (I think they do). Or, maybe there is a way to monitor/scan ships passing by inside a hyperlane? If so, that would create a notable difference in threat level too.

The issue is that normally hyperspace doesn’t work inside of a planet’s gravity well, but with the paths that doesn’t matter. When Marchion says he could drop a ship right on top of Lina Soh’s office, he means right on top of it inside the planet’s atmosphere. Under normal circumstances a ship would appear outside of the planets gravity well, and that gives the defenders time to formulate a response, but not in this case.

That’s also why interdiction technology is so important in the Imperial era. Imperial Interdictor Cruisers can create an artificial gravity well that prevents enemy ships from just jumping into hyperspace and fleeing a battle. If the Rebel Alliance had had access to the paths they would have made interdiction completely useless.

I would think of the hyperlane exits like large highway exits, everyone exits out of hyper space at Coruscant in predetermined zones or areas and all ships are scanned when they arrive. Even when the droid army at the start of Ep 3 attacked Coruscant they appeared out of hyperspace all together at one of these exits and the republic knew where to go fight them. The Paths allow them to steer off the highway or take backroads around to avoid the highway exit entire, getting around any blockade. They can exit theoretically anywhere outside atmosphere.

@@EvWine ordinarily I would agree with you, but Lourna Dee’s Nihil fleet jumps out of hyperspace in an area with massive gravitational and magnetic distortions near Elphrona when they ambush Loden, making me believe that, as long as they know the path, they can show up literally anywhere. That includes in atmo.

@@willcaster819 i guess?, I feel like if they could do that they would have instead of exiting in space above the planet. Moving at hyperspace through air would be like hitting a brick wall, even a tiny bit of space dust would be devastating to anything moving that fast

Does this video mention heavy spoilers? I want to watch but I am only about halfway through the book and don't want to ruin it for myself.
