I've been losing my mind for some time but that darkly sunny music, among many others, helps me to float, to keep my head above water !

There are no dull moments in this work! Lots of variety with amorous as well as soaring themes. It is very virtuosic and played very well by all involved. It is a real crime that it is played so rarely.

This is actually one of the finest and most exhilirating works for piano and orchestra in the entire literature of Western Art Musical History. And seemingly, it is never played in public, I mean never. This is a fine performance both from the orchestra and the soloist. I have listened to it dozens of times and it is fresh and marvelous every time I re-visit it. Anyone who loves great music who has not heard it is missing something terribly wonderful and unique.

Oh what a frightfully wonderful piece! There's much more to it than the title "concert variations" suggests; it's not just variations but a whole new symphonic world founded on the song theme.

"Down among the dead men," an English drinking song. "Dead men" in this case is the term used to describe empty bottles lying on the floor of a bar.
